  1. ​ @loochan325  .45 Colt was not downloaded to. .45 S&W levels. The US Army reduced the powder load because most soldiers found the original to be too powerful to shoot accurately. (They were only allowed a dozen rounds a year for revolver practice). Major Schofield then took advantage of the reduced powder load to develop the shorter .45 S&W cartridge. Enabling S&W to build his revolver on the same frame as the other S&W No.3 models.
