  1. Paper (or rather waxed card) shot shells were commonplace in the UK well into the 1970s. I remember 'old men' (younger than I am now) grumbling that plastic shells were too fragile and prone to break when carried in coat pockets. Bandoleers were for gamekeepers and sport shooters, rather than working class pot-hunters.
