Ignorance and insularity is quite typical for Americans. The Light Rifle was designed for US commercial 9mm Luger ammunition. Which was notoriously underpowered compared with European 9mm Parabellum. When the British first purchased 9mm Para from the US, they struggled to find an ammo maker who could produce 9mm Para to the European military specification they had adopted.

The Army were never interested in the Light Rifle. They were bought for the Royal Navy, who wanted a handy carbine for boarding actions (instead of a SMLE). They were a stopgap until the Lanchester SMG was available.

The Light Rifles were for the Royal Navy. Not the RAF. And it was the British Army which rejected the Lanchester. Not, again, the RAF.

@HaqqAttak The UK was using a standard European military specification load. US commercial 9mm Luger was notoriously underpowered at that time.

Nothing to do with RAF. S&W Light Rifles were issued to the Royal Navy, as a stopgap for the Lanchester.
