  1. While most of the Allies were impressed with the concept of the STG, they were not with it's execution. So they prefer to develop, or continue the development of, their own interpretations of the concept.

  2. The M44 had a folding bayonet so it would be better suited to infantry use than the M38 carbine. Which itself had become widely used by Soviet infantry, during the course of the war.
