  3. GTO here. My landlord got it last spring. He is still very weak and mostly bedridden. Several other conocidos died in early summer. Last month, the family that owns the tienda around the corner from me got it. 4 people in that family died. As soon as I heard this news, I’ve basically cut off all face to face social connection with everyone save my ahijada who is my helper, and runs errands for me. Even there, I know it’s a risk. I’ve gone outside twice in the last month to the store or farmacia. After the family with the tienda got sick, I haven’t heard of anyone else in our street, but I’m taking it for granted that people in the neighborhood got infected in the store and have infected their families, etc. I’ve heard nothing about vacunas, and who is getting them, nor of testing. I check the GTO website, but it’s the same.

  4.  @jamesguitar7384  Mexico has the money. The country is not poor, just most of the people are poor. The public health system did quite well in responding to SARS. The issue seems to be political will, as the president is out-to-lunch (early on he suggested wearing of charms offered protection). The political situation isn’t as bad as in the U.S., where half the population is delusional, but if there is a National effort in Mexico, I haven’t seen it. Much like the U.S., states and municipalities are left to their own devices wrt enacting and enforcing health regulations. I know of five people in my street that have died.

  22. I’m pro-vaccine, but your doubts are understandable. Just having doubts is not crazy. It comes down to doing your own risk/benefit analysis and weighing new data (from reliable sources) as it comes in. No need to make a hasty decision. Depending on how distribution is handled in your area, you might not need to decide quickly (or it’s a moot point) because data from real world use will be coming in as you wait for your turn. Meanwhile, continue to be safe and follow the health protocols as strictly as you can. Good luck!

Worse, they have absolute trash personal morals and lack intellectual honesty. Guys like Chris and the other poster that was deleted absolutely lie and they do so knowingly. They use multiple accounts to troll the useful channels of information. I can no longer give them the benefit of the doubt that they are sincere but misguided. I’ve seen a number of them slip up, like the Ivan who yesterday claimed that the corona virus was disappearing on its own, and the numbers would drop significantly BEFORE THE SUPER BOWL. Yeah, that sporting event that happened a few weeks ago. As I said, posted yesterday. I don’t really care if someone actively working to injure me and my community is from North America or is a foreign national. But it’s funny when their masks slip.

Not coincidentally, San Diego California is the home of Scripps Institute, where they’ve been doing medical research on genetic testing of infectious disease, and were able to pivot their research early. Those researchers within the CDC were petitioning the higher ups for more genetic testing since the start, but the emphasis from the very top was for less testing, not more. Thus there wasn’t the funding or cutting of red tape to make sure this was done on a nationwide scale, even if the expertise and equipment was available (both were). The red tape mentioned above has to do with privacy requirements. The Scripps people had to overcome considerable hurdles to get permission to begin genetic screening from already collected test samples.

  31. Mouthwash falls under “Can’t hurt, might help”. Not so with Ivermectin. Large scale double blind testing is the gold standard, and while ivermectin might or might not be “promising”, there isn’t sufficient proof. Nor is there a medically known mechanism for WHY it might be effective. Mouthwash, vitamin D, and certain other supplements are harmless. There is no risk in using them as directed.

  35.  @JazzTechie  There are better engineered masks with replaceable filters, but they are expensive in comparison with surgical and KN-95 masks. Industrial design for medical devices (which includes PPE) is not a quick process. I’d be very interested in what Apple designed for its employees and whether that has passed any approval processes.

  43.  @theselector69  Just to be 100% clear, Dr. Campbell has never claimed to be a physician. He’s a professor of nursing (as well as a nurse). He has given 30 years to training nurses. He does know what he is talking about, corrects himself on those rare occasions he makes an error, and has never mislead anyone about the nature of his honorific. There are many shitty people that try to discredit Dr. Campbell, accusing him of lying or pretending to be a doctor when he’s done no such thing.

  48. Anti Inflamtory drugs are out, even after, because they might interfere with your bodies immune response to the vaccine (which is the whole point of the vaccine). Talk to your doctor of course. But I’d hold off taking anything for the vaccine after effects if possible, unless you’re having a severe reaction or dangerously high fever. Talk to your doctor before your vaccination.

If there is a mechanism by which it functions as an antiviral, it hasn’t been scientifically established. Ivermectin is an established treatment for parasites. The mechanism is well understood: it’s a neurotoxin that attacks the nervous system of tiny critters such as lice and intestinal worms and lice. It’s a proven medication for parasites, administered around the world. However, this mechanism has NO application as an anti-viral. Viruses do not have nervous systems. If the efficacious antiviral mechanism can be explained by science, ivermectin is worth further study. Otherwise, it’s a waste of time and resources—resources and time better spent elsewhere.
