This was a lot worse than a fire burning through an isolated exurban community situated in rugged terrain. These are 100+ year old neighborhoods that have never been threatened by fires of this magnitude.

  9. I cringed a bit during Harris’s economic speech. There’s a lot of things in it that I would pick apart. Other things demand clarification, and some parts of her program are sensible and needed. But I set all that aside. My policy differences pale in comparison to the monstrosity of a second Trump presidency and Project 2025. After we elect her, and defeat the maga Hannibal Lecter, we can debate the policy.

  13. What we do know is that the Foreign Policy of Harris will be within the bounds of “normal” centrist policy. Within these policy bounds, the basic differences are between containment of adversaries and confrontation of them, while continuing to support and engage with friends and allies, and engagement with adversaries that which to foster friendlier relations. Also note that there is a lot of gray area between containment and confrontation. The foreign policies of LBJ and Nixon were not radically different. The foreign policies of Carter and Reagan were not radically different. It’s a matter of degree.

Harris/Walz offer material improvements across a wide swath of the populace. Everyone but the super rich will benefit. Trump supporters are willing to suffer economically if others suffer more. They don’t mind being near the bottom of a socioeconomic hierarchy if there are others (non-white and non-Christian) below them on the social ladder.

It’s quite sad to see them try to wield Marxist analytical frameworks to analyze recent history and current events WITHOUT studying any of the history or having any in-depth knowledge of current events. Which is a long winded way to say anyone who equates Zionism with colonialism is engaging in antisemitic ideas. They’re doing so either as useful idiots hindered by too little knowledge (and too much enthusiasm) or they are bad actors spreading disinformation intentionally. Other than that, I’m all for the student protests demanding a cease fire AND release of the hostages.

  28. The pro-Hamas protests at the elite universities this spring indicate that ignorance is a problem on the left, as well. Not all the student protestors were pro-Hamas. Some were protesting the tragic suffering of Palestinian civilians. But the general tenor of the protests were at best ignorant of history and blinded by clumsy Marxist ideology, and at worst anti-Semitic.

Acknowledge how tough certain Republicans were and how this would have been a legislative victory for them more than for democrats. “We weren’t happy with all the provisions, but we knew we had to get something done. And Trump killed it. Why? Was it perhaps because he didn’t want Joe Biden to get any credit? Perhaps. But the biggest reason is because he didn’t want Republican Senators to take credit for solving border problems. In Trump’s GOP, only Trump gets credit, only Trump leads. Loyalty to Trump is more important than loyalty to the country and to the people.” For the sake of the GOP and its future, vote Kamala/Harris.
