And Eric will be AG. đ

We will always owe a debt to our fallen, just as we owe a debt to those that serve and those that have served in whatever capacity. The supporters of Old Bonespurs seem to have forgotten that. Even worse are those who attack Tim Walzâs service. They are betraying our military.

I wonder what John McCain thought about his friend compromising himself. Lindsey started kissing Trumpâs ass in 2017 and McCain died in August of 2018. I wonder what McCain would think if he could somehow have seen what a hideously craven creature Graham would become. Graham is scum.
1
It will only happen if the Dems nominate (and vote for) Cheney or Kinzinger. Jeffries would have to withdraw (although he could still lead his conference).
1
@BlueJazzBoyNZ The Dems would have to offer huge concessions to the GOP âmoderate conservativesâ for these representatives to risk being primaried. The Democrats would risk splitting apart their own party.

lol, I remember those books. They werenât kept on any of the child-accessible shelves in our home. I read them anyway by the time I was ten. đ Healthy open discussions about sexuality were still a newish thing in our culture. Around the same age, my workaholic dad was too busy to sit down and give me the âfacts of lifeâ talk, so my mother awkwardly attempted it. I think it was embarrassing for her. Finally, after struggling with her words, she just handed me âAll You Wanted to Know about Sexâ. I donât blame my parents for my predilection for pornography, but I think those books and many subsequent ones (popular historical fiction like written by the likes of John Jakes, for example) were my gateway to porn, which became one of my favorite solitary âhobbiesâ. đ

@maryrollins1737 Has Europe always had such open attitudes about sex? You should be less judgemental.

You need to attend a remedial math class this summer. 196+163 = 359 Let me guess, youâre from her district and you voted for her?

@vinista256 Thatâs a nice idea, but I havenât seen any action from these âdomestic spending republicansâ. Where are the bills? Are they being negotiated in committees and subcommittees? Where are the Republican policy debates on how to improve the lives of ordinary Americans? If evidence of an actual set of policies is in evidence, Iâve missed seeing it. I think if Mike Johnson is bold, he could solve a lot of problems in vocational education and worker training. He could draw on support from both the conference and the caucus. He could get the president on board by throwing him some loan forgiveness dough. Thats just an example.

Interesting idea. How many âpresent, not votingâ GOP Congresspeople would it take? However, are the Dems willing to negotiate and compromise to bring these GOP congresspeople on board to make Jeffries the Speaker? What are you willing to give away in order to form a coalition with the âsane factionâ of the Republican Party (assuming it exists).

âBalloon knotâ

Interesting how you expressed that.

@xunqianbaidu6917 Perhaps Iâm missing the parts where the pro-Palestinian demonstrators are demanding the release of hostages and distancing themselves from Hamas. The truth is that releasing the hostages will lead more quickly to a cease fire. Not releasing the hostages prolongs the conflict. Holding the hostages allows Hamas to hold the Palestinian people hostage. If the demonstrators were truly fighting for the lives of children and not just trying to make a big noise, theyâd find the practical solution and pressure Hamas. And theyâd move as far away as possible from anyone pro Hamas.

@DennisMoore664 lol, thatâs what struck you the strongest? đ

I predict Jill Stein will get a bump in the polls. Hundreds of RFKJ voters will now support her. đ

My grandmother came to Los Angeles from Japan when she was a baby during the 1900s. When the pet eating racial slur surfaced in the 70s, she told us about it being directed at her and her family in the 1910s. A Chinese friend of the family confirmed that the slur had been around for a long time and applied to Chinese immigrants and Chinese Americans. I suspect the racist allegation goes back to the initial waves of Chinese immigration to the U.S. (during the California Gold Rush and the building of the railroad) and the âYellow Perilâ hysteria that followed. Trump, Vance, and maga are tapping into the same fears that spurred violence, discrimination, and racist laws against Chinese immigrants and Chinese Americans. Mobs burned down Chinese enclaves in West Coast cities, Chinese people were robbed, homes and businesses were looted, and hundreds of Chinese people were lynched or shot. âHaitian immigrants eating petsâ is a play in the white supremacist play book. Itâs an opening gambit and a call to arms. Trump and Vance might not know all the history, but people like Stephen Miller and Laura Loomer do.

Tim saying heâs a classic liberal? Classic Tim. đ

Yes. Capitalism is maleable and can serve the people in a democracy, both worker and business owners. The problem is when people turn it into a religion.

They want to avoid bloodshed. Theyâre just not children about National Defense.

Are you following the news? Did you even watch the video? DOJ is on it. The Supreme Court is not involved and I donât know why you think it would be. Thatâs not what the Supreme Court does.

McConnellâs crowning achievement, his swan song, SHOULD have been the Border-Ukraine aid bill, where he literally got both of his cakes by playing especially sleazy hard ball. He got everything he and the Republicans said they wanted with regard to the border âcrisisâ, and he got aid for Ukraine. But it all came unraveled because Trump vetoed it, and the reason Trump could veto it is because McConnell was derelict in his duty to convict Trump. Members of both the House and Senate could have campaigned on this victory that bent over the same barrel both the Dems and the extreme right. They were solving problems! They made the Dems blink by playing chicken with Ukraine aid. They were proving that they could be effective. They would have taken credit, and Biden would end up looking too conciliatory. But Trump wasnât a part of it, couldnât take credit, and would be left without one of his main issues on which to campaign. So Trump predictably threw a wrench in the works. This would have been a crowning achievement for Mitch, his strong finish. Heâd be going out a winner. Instead itâs a tragic farce and a failure that makes the entire GOP look like idiots and gives the high ground to the Dems. Itâs all because McConnell didnât have the guts to politically strangle Trump when he had the chance.

If Andy Reid can win a Super Bowl, Biden can function as President.

Laura Loomer is the Mike Lindell of dashboard airbags. Also, letâs call Laura Loomer âTrumpâs traveling companion.â

âAnglo-Christianâ. Thereâs something that non-Christians and many Christians miss or forget. Following the teachings of Jesus donât make you a Christian. Belief in the resurrection is what makes you a Christian. Belief that Christ died on the cross to wipe away your sins and give you everlasting life is the magic ticket. The Golden Rule is optional. Christian Nationalism, White Supremacy, and Maga are completely compatible with Christianity. Do not confuse the religion of Christianity with Jesus and his teachings.

This is so great to see Mr. Steele as part of the Bulwark. I must say that Iâm impressed (even more impressed than normal) with the Bulwark getting Michael Steele. More good synergy!

I think the âanglo small donor- sphereâ is getting tapped out, and the rest of the GOP is discovering this as they fundraise for their own campaigns.

Do you mean Hungary or did you skip breakfast? Anyway, Orban is polling near the bottom in Iowa, so better give up that fantasy.

âIf Joe Biden canât even protect his own son, he canât protect America,â said a Trump supporter, somewhere.

I donât think Trump fell asleep. He was tranquilized to keep him from having a fit in the courtroom.

Iâll give me a better metaphor. The GOP has become the Donner Party. When Charlie was talking about Liz Cheney, he mentioned that she was âtoo far off in the wildernessâ or words to that effect. But Liz hasnât changed her positions or principals. Sheâs stands where sheâs always been. Itâs the GOP that has gone off to settle down in a new political territory. And theyâre now stuck in the mountains in the middle of winter, engaging in cannibalism. The âmoderatesâ are congratulating themselves that they didnât elect Jack the Ripper as Speaker after voting three times. Meanwhile they are preparing to nominate Hannibal Lecter to be their presidential candidate. I donât see why Cheney would want to join this orgy of self-slaughter. Who would really want to take charge of (or try to) a ravenous mob and somehow persuade them to stop murdering and eating each other? Here is the thing: without Democratic votes, no Republican speaker will be able to enforce discipline on the GOP caucus. He or she will be just as weak and ineffective as McCarthy, at the mercy of the MAGAs. Without Dem support, Speaker of the House is merely an honorific. Without Dem support, the Speaker of the House is essentially powerless. So why wouldnât the âmoderateâ Republican representatives just make a deal with the congressional Democrats? Because it would be career suicide. Even openly talking about compromise would put them on a death list (possibly a literal death list). Very few (probably none) care about governing more than they do about their careers and staying in office. The first ones that Hannibal eats after heâs officially nominated will be anyone who attempted to make a deal with the Dems.

It depends on if sheâs willing to hang in there until the convention. She could be lashing out in desperation, but she might also think Trump or his campaign is on the verge of collapse and wonât make it to the convention. For example, what if Trump is disqualified? Sheâs the last candidate left standing. I wish she had spoken up sooner, but maybe she has timed this right. If this gets as brutal as I think it might, sheâs not going to endorse Trump. What I am waiting to see is if she takes on Trumpâs many surrogates and calls them on their hypocrisy and B.S.
1
Interesting questions. The answer to your question is on the billing statements from the firms. Donât merely count the lawyers sitting at the tables. Those lawyers have junior lawyers on their staffs. Every hour of every employee working on Trumpâs cases is accounted for and billed at the appropriate rate and according to agreement. There might only be two attorneys sitting at the defense table, but there could be 50-100 people working to support them.

@devawnbledsoe462 climate resilience is why we need to âbuyâ Greenland. I canât believe Iâm agreeing with Trump about anything, but a lot of habitable land will be revealed as Greenlandâs glaciers melt. That doesnât make Trumpâs statements completely rational, mainly because Denmark doesnât own Greenland. But as other parts of the world become less habitable due to extreme weather and climate shifts, it makes sense to stake a claim and warn off others that really do have imperial ambitions. Trump expresses himself as a click-whoring boorish jackass, seeking attention. But the idea of Greenland becoming part of the U.S. is not entirely absurd.

Are you willing to compromise on any of your liberal and/or progressive policies to get those 5 republicans? How about the Dems back a more moderate Congressperson from their caucus to be Speaker? It gets complicated if you want to form a coalition that pulls your party towards the center.

Fintan OâToole gave the 2024 Annual Edmund Burke Lecture at Trinity College in Dublin. Itâs on the channel âTrinity Long Room Hub Arts and Humanitiesâ (a mouthful, to be sure). I guess try searching 2024 Edmund Burke Lecture. The lecture is entitled âTerror and Self-Pityâ, and it offers (imho) what is really the best understanding of why we elected Trump that Iâve come across. If you are a conservative and if your conservatism has any foundation in Burke, youâll really want to listen to the lecture. I would say the same for liberals that have studied Burke and engaged with his ideas. Itâs really a terrific and important lecture.

Rubio is actually not a bad choice. Weâll see how long Rubio lasts.

Itâs a slippery slope. If we allow homosexuals the right to marry other homosexuals, pretty soon homosexuals will demand the right to marry non-homosexuals. Thatâs just as bad as cats marrying dogs.

Iâm not sure I would vote for Christie in the general election, but I like the cut of his jib.
1
@cglavin Your argument has some merit, but the way I would put it is that the American Center politics has always been to the right of the European Center politics. Itâs a problem with the concept of the Overton Window: is there a correct position for it? Where is that position?

â  @Ivan-bw6iw Iâm a conservative voter, formerly registered as a Republican. Iâve never been a member of the Democrat party. The people who vote for the likes of Matt Gaetz and MTG are delusional fools that should be ashamed of themselves. They seem to be incapable of shame, however, even as they burn down the GOP. Ultimately they are to blame for the GOP disarray in the House of Representatives. There is no need for sane people to coddle these moral infants so as not to alienate them. Thatâs how we got to this pointâa craven political class that never gave their moron constituency the hard news and always told them what they wanted to hear. You really donât need to worry about alienating the âDumb Voterâ, my liberal and progressive friends. They could have voted for more serious problem solving conservatives, but they voted for firebrands for the entertainment value. For the entertainment value! You donât want their votes. Maybe you want the votes of the people adjacent to them, people who are capable of remorse and who are capable of returning to reason, but you donât need the idiot nutjobs. Thatâs what got us here in the first placeâthe GOP is hostage to extremist because they DIDNâT rein in the crazies and imbeciles. We (the GOP) used to expel people like the Birchers and discredit them with ridicule. Go ahead and laugh at the GOP clowns and rubes. Theyâre already making themselves the butt of a very sick joke. You do not want to become reliant on their votes in any way. Edit: I just realized youâre the leftist equivalent of the right wing moron voter. Have a nice day.

âTrust me. Iâm a Republican.â

Iâm thinking that McConnell isnât all there either. He (or someone in the Senate) pulled off a real win against Biden and the Dems with the border/aid to Ukraine bill, only to have it come crashing down around his head.
1
So you arenât willing to step up? You want others to do all the work? What sort of campaign volunteering have you ever done? What things have you done to get out the vote? Itâs not the leaders that are the real problem. Itâs people that think that theyâre doing democracy merely by going to the polls. Democracy requires that ordinary people organize and motivate each other to vote. If you expect your Democrat Party leaders to do all the work, maybe you share some of the blame.
1
@niataylorcolino Arenât there organizations in Texas whose purpose is registering people to vote? If so, have you considered volunteering for a few hours every week?
