  28. It’s been going on since the start of the war, believe it or not. All sorts of appeals to the Russian soldiers. I think the ones having the most effect are the Ukrainian-Russians, the ones that the soldiers were told they were saving, are demanding they leave. You probably won’t find a fiercer defender or patriot as someone who has decided to immigrate and become a citizen. With a few exceptions, ethnic Russians in Ukraine are rallying to their adopted country.

  30.  @ErikDayne  Yup. And this is why the minimum wage provision is being stripped from this COVID relief bill. Rightfully so, I might add. Manchin might be able to get the bill to focus on those most in need. There’s more than one way to target relief. For example, those with incomes under $50,000 get $1,800, those with incomes $51,000 - 75,000 get $1200, and $75,000 - $1000 get $800. The actual dollar amounts can vary, but this is a more sensible way to target relief payments.

  33. 1) It reduces people giving in to the urge to socialize. During daylight hours, if you need to work or run an important errand, you take care of business and then go home. 2) It’s a compromise: you’re cutting in half (roughly) the number of hours that people are at risk of exposure. This is less than perfect, because obviously more people are out during the day. 3) It’s mild social control. If you’re out after curfew without a reasonable explanation, you’re likely one of those jerks that doesn’t comply with health regulations when people’s lives are at stake. So enjoy the fine and the talking to you’ll get and stay home next time. Temporary regulations during a deadly crisis don’t mean we are sliding into totalitarianism. They’re not going to last forever; we even have a ballpark idea of when we’ll be past the crisis, IF people take the vaccine, and IF they maintain other safety protocols for the time being.
