  1. Khamanei isn't a particularly good guy, but he's far less of a psychopath than Netanyahu is. Iran doesn't usually randomly murder civilians in other countries the way that the IDF is infamous for. Iran is a regional power that's mostly concerned with not having a repeat of the Iran-Iraq war. That definitely doesn't mean that I'm a fan of the internal politics of Iran, and that there aren't serious human rights issues, but they do tend to be more focused on defense than offense. Netanyahu is an outright psychopath and the IDF and Mossad regularly murder people without cause. The IDF literally murdered 3 Israeli hostages that were waving a white piece of cloth after they had escaped.

  2. We know that the fire truck illegally tried to cross the crossing when the gate was down. What we don't know is if drugs were involved, inadequate rest or a distraction led to the attempt.

  3. He was living far away from LA or the usual places that celebs live. I doubt he had any reason to have a camera system unless there were active threats. And, he had been retired for a number of years. He had a heart condition and had pretty much completely retired over 20 years ago.

  6. The Revolutionary Guard was probably aware of that at the time, the point was that they can hit targets inside of Israel. The Iranians are unlikely to want to see an escalation, but by the same token, they have to respond to Israel's transgressions or appear weak. The Middle East is a rather complicated region and the Israelis have made it a specialty to act like the little kid that picks a fight and then runs to hide behind the teacher. They've been trying to drag Iran into this and the Iranians have been trying to avoid it, but the attacks have to be answered. I don't know of any country with a military that would just let a foreign country assassinate people within their borders.

  7.  @bobvoeh66  Yes and keep in mind that before the gates go down there's an alarm bell that sounds to let you know that the gates are going to be going down. It gives drivers the time to clear the intersection if they aren't able to stop prior to the stop line. There's really no excuse for ignoring the gate being down. It's one thing if you legitimately break down on the track, but even then, you call the number on the crossing or 911 to make sure the engineers coming down the line are able to stop, or at least slow enough to prepare to stop if your vehicle is still there. It never ceases to amaze me how many people get hit by trains. They don't swerve unexpectedly and far too many of these crashes occur at crossings like this that have an alarm bell, flashing lights and a gate that comes down.

  10.  @tanyarobinson1146  You can't get carbon monoxide poisoning if there's no combustion going on. Carbon monoxide gets into a house primarily via incomplete combustion. If you've got a place like I do with no gas service, there's no possibility of carbon monoxide poisoning.

  12. Suspicious means that they can't rule out foul play. It may still turn out to be something that just happened without nefarious intent, but they don't have the autopsy report or toxicology back to tell them how they died. That should go a long way towards settling whether or not there was foul play.

  14.  @BackwoodsInsanity  Yep, a lot of people don't think about it, but the only emergency vehicles that drive significantly over the speed limit with any regularity are the police. Ambulances and fire trucks generally adhere to the speed limit specifically because driving like a maniac when there's an emergency just increases the risk of others being hurt or killed. I'd wager the same thinking would apply here. There's two sets of tracks, so possibly two sets of trains coming, and it's not clear until the gate reopens.

  15.  @Cherish1056  People often don't realize just how cheap those have gotten. Depending upon the payload, a consumer grade drone can do a lot of damage. Hell, the Mexican Cartels even had cars that were rigged up with remote controls years ago that could probably have done the job. I can only imagine the range they'd have now with more modern wireless technology.

  19.  @Suuegrl  The gates are down, if you watch at 1/4 speed you can see the gate arms down on all the crossings. It is kind of hard to see though even at that speed, but yeah, 911 has the ability to get through to the railroad to clear the tracks if need be. There's also generally a phone number on the crossing to get in touch with the traffic controller directly if a car breaks down on the tracks. Otherwise, it's a call to 911 as that could be extremely urgent. (Admittedly, some sections of track are rarely used, but you don't really want to take any chances)

  22. Firetrucks are rarely doing anything that urgent. The siren is there to get people to clear a path for them and to possibly drive on the wrong side of the street if they have to. There shouldn't be any tunnel vision impacting this. Any tunnel vision should be on the job of driving the truck without killing anybody before they get where they're going.

  23. The firetruck being on the wrong side of the street isn't an inherent problem, that's one of the things that the siren is for. The problem is that the truck was on the wrong side of the street in an effort to get around the gate arms that were there to prevent this sort of thing from happening. And, presumably, nobody contacted the railroad to notify the engineer that this might happen so that the train could be slowed to something that would allow the train to stop in time.

I think it's more a matter of being really careful to have all the right paperwork and that there might be areas of the property that aren't clearly searchable just because they had reason to come into the areas that turned out to have the bodies. Plus, at this point, they can lock the scene down and fill out the appropriate paperwork for the warrant, it probably doesn't take that long.

  25. Well, thank God nobody has done anything about the guns, I'd hate to think about how this would have turned out if they had to use knives to attack the people in those cars on the freeway. Perhaps it's time we just admit that guns are the problem and that there needs to be real effort put into treating them like the deadly things they are. Other countries don't have this problem, but we have to tolerate it here?

  26.  @bigredd690  I've noticed just in general when driving around, that people drive like maniacs and wind up only a car length ahead of me. Whatever few seconds you might save driving too fast can very easily get eaten up by crashing, even if nobody in the involved vehicles are injured.

To be fair, whenever I go to model railroad shows, there's always a booth there to make sure to spread the word about just how dangerous trains can be and why you should never do anything as stupid as what that fire truck did. And I don't live anywhere near FL or any other state with a reputation for idiots. Locally, it seems like we have at least a couple that get hit by trains every year.

  31. The investigation will almost certainly be looking at why the driver did that as the responsibility is clearly on the driver of the fire truck. The footage in this video very clearly shows us everything we need to know to know that the fire truck was completely at fault.

  32. Essentially yes, but if we were talking about a freight train, they'd probably have any trains on that stretch slow enough to allow them to stop for the fire truck. Some of those trains can take multiple minutes to completely clear the crossing.

  35. Carbon monoxide doesn't rise to the ceiling or sink to the floor the way that a lot of gases will. So, you have to actively ventilate it out if you've got a build up. That's not to say that there may not have been dangerous levels at the time they died, just that it's less likely.

  44.  @timb7775  Around here, most of the calls that could arguably be that urgent are handled by the much smaller medic one unites that drive around in vehicles that aren't that much bigger than standard ambulances. If you've ever seen firefighters responding to a fire, it can be a bit unsettling just how slowly they progress when they know there isn't anybody trapped inside. And a large part of that is so that nobody makes any stupid mistakes. Although part of it has to do with modern techniques that depend more on venting a bunch of the heat out of the building before they even proceed inside.

Attorneys do this all the time and try to convince the job to end the trial if it's in their best interest and they have any sort of argument to make to support ending it. Anytime they think they can get the judge to suddenly rule in their favor, they're going to go for it.

We can see in the video that the arms were down and the truck was going around them, the question is probably going to be if this was drugs, lack of rest or distracted driving. But, at the end of the day, there's going to be millions of dollars of damages involved here between the truck, the train and the injured parties. Just the injuries alone could potentially stretch over a million.

  49.  @cag1763  I think the fire fighters a bit tougher than that. The train does not stop at these crossings, by the time the truck was even visible, it was well past the point of the engineer doing anything about it.

  50. Yes, but in some cases, they can get the trains to stop. But, that's pretty hit or miss and depends upon the trains being far enough out to do so. Most of the time, I don't think they even do so unless there's something wrong with the tracks or something broken down on the tracks.
