I hope you someday can call yourself a citizen of a better country and leave this traumatic youth behind. You can't chose the country you were born in, but you can sometimes chose which country you want to belong to. Even if the process will take years, it will be worth it in the end because russia will NEVER be a respectable country in your lifetime. Maybe if it completely collapses and falls apart in a dozen smaller countries , maybe someday those shards can be welcomed into the world again.

I felt so cold in my house that I decided to take a plane to Tenerife, and spend a week around New Year's in the 22C-27C degree weather there. Strangely, I didn't see any Ruzzians there... I saw English. Germans, Swedes, Belgians, Dutch, Spaniards, even some people from as far as Estonia.... But not a single Russki. I guess they all have such a paradise at home , they don't want to go to an island with a sunny climate.

@birdsie9791 well, the US is a shithole (unless you happen to be a millionaire) compared to a country like Finland, but it is still 1000% better than Russia which descended from shithole place to downright hellhole..... SO if I was a Russian I would welcome a move to USA, you can always work a bit there, and then consider what your final destination will be.

The best advice I can think of for young people like you, find a way to stop being Russian, as in get another nationality (you can stay being cultural Russian) . Russia committed suicide. Unless Putler dies in the next year I don;t see Russia get out of this shit before 2050

If you are a Russian that managed to escape to a safe country: Do whatever you have to do to get a passport of that country, even if it takes 10 years. Learn any language you can. Then on the day you have your new citizenship, burn your russian passport and never go back, the world is at your feet then, do it for yourself or your (future) kids. Loved ones in Russia, you can only meet online, or by phone, but that is the price you have to pay.. video chat is free these days.

I was totally freezing in the +10C weather around Christmas, so I decided to fly to Tenerife and enjoy a bit of beach life, watching the kite surfers. Then I took a boat to La Palma to hike in the 2021 vulcanic eruption zone. I got a bit of a sunburn, but I think I'll survive. Now I am back and on Monday I will get back to work, with a decent pay rise, to keep up with inflation. It will be hard, but we will try to resist the Russian fuel boycott. (oh and I donated half of my xmas bonus to charities, including Ukraine war relief)

And western countries have had their share of terrible and criminal leaders as well, it can happen anywhere in the world. Look at the Koreas, one half ended in a cult of authoritarian leadership , and the other half in a more or less functional democracy. Why?

@danstone8783 yeah, finally somebody who understands it. the USA produced more than twice as many aircraft as the 2nd on the list (USSR) and since most of the production was at the later stage of the war the types produced were also of much higher technological development in general. (But not at the start, when the Germans had the technological advantage)
