I want better things for the people of Somalia
653
is it me or is this the best wacky weekend trip by far? looks awesome!
176
Disappointed Quinlan noises! Time to get him a souvenir mug :)
105
But why didn't you just get onigiri for lunch, like Sharla the vegan does all the time?
86
hilarious! I also paused and replayed it immediately, and then enjoyed it again at the end of the video. I wonder what triggered this, though!
44
Don't unlist this video, Chris! It's a fun little chapter in JAJ, it doesn't have to be epic!
19
Good luck Shane! Keep going - you'll be so relieved when it's done!
17
I loved that!
16
@HansWurst1569 if I remember correctly they were all in the abandoned school segment - skip that and you're likely to be fine! Oh, and the intro preview
13
if anything, you're a bit harsh/reductive about western TV. I avoid embarrassing shows like kitchen night mares, but love constructive shows like Master Chef - admittedly, mainly the Australian version which is incredible supportive to contestants, who are in turn much friendlier than their American counterparts :). But without actual critique, watching people eat food just becomes incredibly boring, so true!
13
I was actually wondering how German people would feel about that rule (I have a German friend who's always mildly shocked when I tell her how I always try to be exactly on time or maybe only two minutes early - I'm Dutch)
11
Ooh! This one's over an hour long! Can't wait to finally watch it - while also hoping that the upcoming cyclethon will be a walk in the park by comparison. Happy cycling, Chris (and Connor)!
9
It's more like locking mouths...
8
Taeko Ohnuki! Yes!
8
7:54 this is somehow the most Sharla face I've ever seen on Chris 😂. I consider myself warned - if I ever want to go to a family style restaurant in Japan, it won't be Saizeriya!
7
hammocks as well as waterfalls! pinning it in Maps immediately
6
Wow, I had no clue sukiyaki was so special - it was the first meal I ever had in Japan because there was a sukiyaki place opposite our hotel! So good 🤤 (also, can't believe I'm only one fifth into the video! What a treat!)
6
Wow, what a great place! I hope Connor's bruises healed up swiftly, they looked really painful!
5
Argh, I didn't manage to see Pete! I was looking for him especially on the fishing boat but I must have got distracted by the content :)
5
Yes! I was so surprised!
5
It's a little sad that this has to be that expensive, but it's soooo beautiful!
5
Chris is my favourite! But for an even more genuine version of him, check out the Abroad in Japan podcast, where he's said that he prefers telling stories with his videos and he really likes letting out his sarcastic side on YouTube. For even more genuine j-vloggers, I recommend Simon and Martina as well as Rachel and Jun's Adventures!
4
getting your steps in by exploring a different area everyday - simple but brilliant! I'm really curious about Shimokitazawa - I've heard good things about it but would love to see how you experience it!
4
Just finished the video and I feel like I've read a great novel! It was touching and beautiful and exciting and suspenseful at times and it made me laugh so often and so hard! One of the best videos on this channel and that's saying something! ❤
4
they also rate really good/decent experiences 3 stars out of five. not sure what it would take to get a Japanese reviewer to give five stars. A truly mind-blowing experience of extremely rare wagyu beef, with drunk enthusiasm on top?
4
Lampu no Yado! Wow! Good to know the lamps induce headaches but it does always look dreamy in pictures...
4
Loved it! And my tip is using duolingo, which genuinely helps. I knew all your words from it (except DVD player, which I know from this channel)
3
Ooh, a fellow architecture nerd! Do you know the Archimarathon channel? You might like some of their stuff!
3
AlmightyStarfire It may not make sense (it doesn't make sense!), but it is actually correct standard English. Trust me, I've got a PhD in this stuff!
3
Not even halfway into the video and I already need a break from the hilarious but also weirdly exhausting accent switch. My face hurts from laughing! 😂 Edit: okay, in the end hearing Sharla transform into David Attenborough was perhaps the best thing about this 🤣
3
It's amazing how well Pete turned out, really :)
3
I think the pumpkin tempura would be my favourite too! 😅
3
That was a very enjoyable 24 hours in Asakusa! I would love to stay in that ryokan and explore those underground shops :)
3
I would love more travel videos, especially with Emma :)
3
ooh! my favourite 'Japanese has this, just like Dutch, even though English doesn't!' (it's 'eergisteren' in Dutch. but all of this is topped by Norwegian - they even have a separate word for 'last year': 'fjor'!)
3
I ❤ Dr Jelly! And this song is a bop! But I really think Abroad in Japan has to revisit Kakunodate because the samurai quarter is MAGICAL
3
Lovely suite and letting you review it (and actually sleep and eat there) was a worthy alternative to letting it sit empty during Covid. I'll have a look at a more reasonably priced room there for my next trip to Tokyo! Also, thanks, Connor, for doing the little dance. Now go put those bottles of alcohol back. :)
2
I vote Yasashi Ikemen provided Sharla took the picture herself (with a self timer or something). Otherwise, it's We Ride at Dawn! Now I finally get how you'd get stuck on a mountain on a bike... I really wanted to dive into your day to help with the bike!
2
@stefanie369 the one thing that's easier for Japanese people and that fits the way they normally pronounce English is R at the end of a syllable - or rather, no R! Pronouncing summer as sama is actually not too different from a southern British English accent.
2
AHH so funny! You've made me apprehensive about my next ekiben though - mine have been good so far, all four of them, but apparently I can't expect my luck to last? Also: I feel sorry for Tokio in terms of large buildings but fortunately there's some really cool residential architecture and smaller utility buildings across the country as well - I hope you run into a lot of those as well!
2
Nah, it's also 'what I admire about Japan'. But maybe a little less of that :)
2
Ah, Norm was there! That explains the 360 camera :)
2
Apple pie! I want apple pie now!
2
Ooh, you're showing the actual book and you haven't anonymized all of the students to Takeshi this time!
2
And then also seeing it from the bottom just before climbing it! In the middle of summer! So lucky!
2
God bless Natsuki and Yuki and any other Japanese friends you may have :)
2
I knew far less of these than expected! actually very useful :)
2
I started off pitying Pete for his skills, and then I noticed that FINALLY, THERE IS SOMEONE OUTSIDE MY FAMILY WHO HOLDS HIS CHOPSTICKS OUR WAY! <3 Chris!
2
1:30 oooooooh the Goshomo Jomon Park! I really wanted to go there when I was in Tohoku last year, but didn't make it. Seeing it up close like this really makes me want to go back even more than I already did!
2
Finally! The video that Nakagin deserves with the music that it deserves (the futuristic stuff, not the faux radio music 😉)
