OMG, you actually got to see it! The relief was so palpable, I actually cried a little!
2
same. and it does not get better with Japanese names!
2
go look at those other videos Chris recommended!
2
Loved this! I want to be on that train. But what was up with the plastic bags around your feet on the sand dune?
2
YEESSSS it's finally here! Congratulations to everyone who edited! Stoked to watch !
2
well, in that case I'm sure something like 'ano hito', 'that person', with a pointed look, would be more fitting. but not 'he'!
1
So impressive!
1
Wow, suddenly it's the final episode! And what a way to end, with such a major hisashiburi experience ❤
1
This video has turned out even better than I hoped. Made me laugh so much! But it's very hard to come up with a favourite from these nightmares. So Kumamon, I guess?
1
Natsuki was so good in this episode - but I'm still happy to see him get his comeuppance next time! 😅 (Also, that train 😍)
1
oof - weel, done, I couldn't tell!
1
It took me a moment to get into the snowy mindset, but what a great fun filled adventure! I already planned to visit Hokkaido someday because It's Japan but less hot and humid in summer. Now I know where to go that's actually pretty and charming: Otaru!
1
imagine having to find a way to eat all the leftover chicken over the course of a week because wasting food racks you with guilt...
1
So much fun! I chuckled all the way through the episode and have added a new prefecture to my bucket list :). (won't be eating any fugu though - but I'm glad you tried it for us!)
1
That third 'apartment' (studio?) is so stuck in the 1960s/1970s! I'm glad the local sento that made it feasible hasn't gone out of business so far, but not having AC or insulation with 40 degree heat and humidity is a deal-breaker. I pity whoever will have to move in here!
1
All the <3 <3 <3 for this video, Chris! And I'm not sure I would call Kazu a female Ryotaro (English skills: yes; snark: no), but she definitely was a great find as a guide! Also: wow, those views...
1
So many good ones, but Business Boy has a particular ring to it (as it also sounds like something Pete Donaldson might use to describe himself)
1
It was so worth it for me as a viewer, and you should sooooo stick to more realistic filming and editing schedules, paired with a healthy diet, in the future! I'm also hoping for a mini travel series with Emma in the future :)
1
This was exactly as much fun as I'd hoped. And to a listener with very rudimentary knowledge of Japanese but a very good ear for accents, it sounded really good! (Also: I'm glad Sharla ate some of that nasty natto too! you deserved it, Sharla!)
1
Hahaha! I don't think the sea shells came out right even once - and just the word lorry is so hard for Japanese speakers!
1
I wish you a month of learning how to stir-fry :). And now might be the time to invest in a rice steamer!
1
I wish I could add hearts instead of likes to videos!
1
I'll gladly go up a tier on Patreon if that's what it takes to make sure you keep making these documentaries!
1
ooooh this is beautiful! both the towns and the accommodation! I must get myself to Japan in autumn sometime so I can stay in a traditional building without suffering from the heat and humidity I usually get in August 😅
1
This video is pure brilliance, Chris! Super informative about something I've wondered about for years, really funny and Ryotaro is beautifully lit ;) (is that his restaurant? I want to go there)
1
okonomiyaki every single time! although I think it's plenty filling without the noodles... (also: those grilled oysters with sauce sounded heavenly, pre-sand!)
1
if only the drawers would always be completely fully and never mixed up, though!
1
The sword - more's the pity :)
1
Weirdly, getting the fittest you've ever been in your thirties is actually a totally attainable goal! I say that as a former hater if sports who got the fittest I'd ever been in my thirties and forties. Having said that, I'm currently not my fittest because I overextended my ankle running, months ago, and it's taken ages to heal. So I'd say it's definitely a good idea to build up your stamina very slowly and to get professional advice, especially when you're at all unsure about twinges and aches! Oh, and do aim for fun workouts in the mountains and Hokkaido when you first return to Japan. Heat, innit 😬
1
it vas Russian!
1
Wow, the contrasts between cleaned-up and revitalised places and those as yet untouched are so huge! I feel both shocked and inspired even by just watching this short video... 😮
1
Yuki is back! ❤
1
No, that's the Yamanote line in Tokyo 😄
1
Hey! That's not your car! Was driving down to Tokyo that expensive or did you really need more room? [Edit: I'm glad you answered that question in the video :) ]
1
I think I was too! It took ages before I actually watched it, too.
1
Love both commercials! But not using the hair-raising sounds of the earlier video on namahage with Ryotaro - what a missed opportunity! Everyone who hasn't seen that needs to go watch it right now!
1
Aww, Pete's younger than me! and considerably younger than your other 'older' Youtube guest stars :). As for monsters: I vote for Pete's, because it actually looks like a monster. But props for making that cute cartoon character a sneaky agent of balloon death, Chris!
1
I love how both you and Sharla have now dressed up to be worthy of entering these places 😁
1
It was filmed back in February!
1
I'll have some barbecued scallops and a gyudon, please! (banana plus chocolate? nah... although pink white chocolate is probably better)
1
The more of these videos I watch, the more I realise that Japan is frustratingly full of worthwhile destinations and I will never be able to do them all justice! But on the upside, it turns out you can share a meal with someone at Ichiran by folding away the screen, so that means I'm now very likely to go there someday :).
1
I absolutely see the animal shapes too. Nature is a funny place :)
1
What a thoroughly enjoyable video! Also, now I get why that Instagram livestream from the ryokan suite was slightly manic 😆
1
it's a lot easier to make sense of what you are immersed in if you also get some hacks like rule explanations and vocab, though
1
tell us more! what's up with the grass (also, kusa?)
1
#ronald for sure!
1
I loved this! (I've loved all of the cycle videos, but) this is what I imagined the series to be like before it started: beautiful views, lots of cycling and getting a real feel for what it's like being there. I'm glad you've done so many other interesting things, but I'm also glad you have a video like this in here!
1
Still a beautiful place and so cool to see more behind the scenes! Cleaning those glasses and peeling a pear with the tip of a long knife though - scary! 😂
1
200 for a set of tyres! That's expensive even if it's Australian instead of US dollars!
1
Ahh, finally! This video is happening!
