Man, these videos just keep getting better and better! I'm kind of glad now that I've saved them up by accident, so I get to binge them!
2
What a cool tour! I can kind of identify with Lawrence's enthusiasm about lifers even if I'm not a hardcore birder. Every time I see a bird I've never seen before in my garden, I get really excited! And the starry night and the moon really impressed me too. I know there's a dark-sky park in the far north of my densely populated country, I should try to stay the night there when there's a good chance of clear skies!
2
I'm normally only into full-size trains, but this is so cool!
2
that view of the Grand Canyon... Wow! I got chills just seeing it on my TV, them teared up a little seeing Will taking it in - and that's before he turned out to be tearing up! what a perfect bucket list trip.
2
This was great! I was happy to see Texarkana station but sad to hear it's condemned. What a waste!
2
Today at least there's a train at 18:25, as per the ScotRail website. And it turns out there's a road that leads to a youth hostel on a loch nearby!
1
thanks for this wonderful series, guys! and aha, Mike, canal boat travels , that's what you were doing in the UK! I always find them a fascinating and charming blast from the past. can't wait!
1
What really got to me is the hand-written signs. 💛
1
Ahh what a wonderful relaxed ending to the series. And the sun even came out at the end! That Falkirk Wheel was very impressive amd almost too exciting! I held my breath for a bit when you went up! I trust the engineering but my trepidation around heights still kicked in 😅
1
Oh man, I want to try almost all of those foods now!
1
I could almost smell the potato fields! Having grown up around flat potato fields near the sea I wasn't as blown away by this episode as the previous one, but again, a lovely part of the world to discover, and I'd love to help make and eat a bannock like that sometime!
1
What a beautiful region! I'm looking forward to the rest of the trip :)
1
Wow! I have to say, thank you for showing us what it's like so we don't have to go there 😅 The biggest disconnect I've seen since staying in a German holiday village in the desert on Fuerteventura in the Canaries... (It was a bit of a surprise last-minute package deal a long time ago!) I literally breathed a sigh of relief when you when outside of the European hotels and showed us a bit of the actual city! But the luxury and the food looked good!
1
It was nice to see you glowing and beaming so much! It looked more enjoyable than when you were confronted with questionable lodgings last year 😁
1
Absolutely! Especially when they have nice green banks, probably. Good hiding and spawning grounds!
1
that's some really impressive equipment! but from my European perspective the no-parking sign design is really small and fussy, with those little arrows and text! and without folded edges (very North-American!), it's no wonder that the last sign shown out in the wild had bent... poor thing :)
1
Looks like a great train! Never seen such a spacious train toilet or such cool train lifts. But I hope the foldable seats aren't for wheelchair users' companions to sit on the whole way, only when they need to do something with the wheelchair user!
1
I wonder if that Belgian bakery also has actual Belgian bread! That bread is sooo good... But I also enjoyed seeing the novelty waffle with Greek flavours - and the Belgian beer bar with German and Czech beer :)
1
@DownieLive thanks!
1
What an absolute joy!
1
I've been holed up at home for four weeks now, because I fell ill before our self-quarantine order came in here in the Netherlands! Hang on in there - and maybe someone can safely lend you some plates? Your mistake made me laugh but it's obviously also really inconvenient!
1
It is SO BEAUTIFUL out there. I love these videos! And the engineering on that lock cascade was brilliant!
1
What a joy this video is!
1
It's going to be a long wait until February for us international viewers! But congratulations :)
1
I second this offer!
1
I think the slugs were my favourite. And I found it funny that I know one other person with the artist's last name, and now I imagine the artist as someone who's as bright and bonkers as the guy I know :)
1
this was fun but I REALLY want to travel back in time to check the thickness of your socks and to give you blister plasters and sports tape before you left! poor feet!
1
@DownieLive glad to hear it!
1
Haha! This is great. Put a huge smile on my face 😄
1
Awesome video :)
1
OMG... This was amazing!
1
OMG this looks like an amazing route! I would LOVE to do this trip one day (minus Covid and the breakdown ahead)
1
belated happy birthday, Mike! I feel for your younger self. everyone is always worth celebrating! and this was another wonderful video.
1
I wanna goooooo! Also need to look up what the numbers 1 and 2 are 😅. And I can't believe you were insecure about pronouncing Finse (it has two syllables, if that helps) but effortlessly pronounced Myrdal! 😆
1
Not everyone agrees on the definition of the word plus: unlike some other parts of Canada, British Columbia (that's where Vancouver is, right?) hasn't even, strictly speaking, ordered its residents to stay at home (or that's what Wikipedia says, anyway). Having said that, this is somewhat similar to the situation here in the Netherlands, and the social distancing measures certainly feel serious enough to merit a dramatic name...
1
I used to envy people who lived near a forest; now I live in a forested area and I envy people who live near rocks and rivers, lol! But you're so right, exploring one's local area is so worth it! This week I went on a cycle ride out of the forest and into the polders around the old Dutch fishing town of Spakenburg. I saw amazing new views both in the forest and in the open country, I had fried fish for lunch and I even saw an old lady in traditional dress! Highly recommended for anyone in the area :)
1
That was a very nice video and if I wanted to start something new I would 100% feel encouraged. But I also want to share these more random thoughts: Ooh, you made it into a forested area! Very good! And your hair actually looks good now (and not just compared to the hat hair you sported in the Squamish video). And finally: that's not how I expected your friend's name to be spelled, but it would work a lot better for English speakers than the Dutch and German spellings I was thinking about (Ties, This, Thies...)
1
I started watching the new video and realized I hadn't finished this one yet! had to come straight back here. I loved the indigenous eatery and the spa! (had to laugh at the random dots on all their bath names though, lol). question: did your train bed rest on the toilet? that would turn a midnight bathroom break into quite the experience!
1
So, cultural interest question: did you actually feel you had to say sorry for all these mistakes, most of which were small factual errors? Would the average Canadian say sorry for them? Because as a Dutch person, I'd definitely admit that I had been wrong, but saying I was sorry for them would go a bit far :)
1
Wait, Labra-DOR? That's the stress pattern? Did not see that coming! (As a near-native English speaker from Europe) Update: Mi'kmaq basically has a silent q? Did not see that coming either! Update 2: what a beautiful part of the world you've shown us! I especially liked seeing the forests and the Eskasoni experience and the fishing village. That really reminded me of Norway. Wow!
1
That was a lot, but interesting!
1
Oh. My god. This place looks amazing and you get to touch everything in the caboose and you get those to-die-for pancakes! So jealous!
1
What a nice place. I'll imagine it with green summer foliage all around, for even more sheltered outdoor showering :)
1
They are faraway to me, but I definitely agree!
1
That cassowary was BEAUTIFUL up close! Did Nicole also get to see it?
1
I love trains and I love drone footage! This was an interesting combo. Also wondering: does that Green Hornet still run on diesel with the new engine?
1
Love it!
1
What a lovely trip! I hope you got your food planning dialled in after this because, like Nicole, I think I'd be a lot more relaxed with my blood sugar in place. I also wonder to what extent this type of experience could be replicated in the Netherlands! We used to have a lot of canal boats here too, before the advent of the train, but I've never seen narrow historical boats here in spite of walking on many tow paths. And did you know it wasn't just horses pulling our canal boats, it was also sometimes just people (like the skipper's wife)?
1
I'm new to this channel but love this video! As a European who loves train travel, I say: America, you deserve high-speed trains too! They're comfortable AND sustainable.
1
Traveling in a chair for two days... That takes dedication! I'm wondering: do they actually run the train with all the closed carriages in there, instead of disconnecting them?
