  6. Owning a home is my hedge against rent increasing. I bought just before the “2014 housing crash” everyone we telling me not to buy because the crash would cause cheaper homes…… never happed. People kept telling me unemployment is at 40% and you can’t get a job. Have never had any issue. Was told it is impossible to have a FICO over 800….. have had no issues with that. People just love to cry. Having a 2 year lease won’t save you as landlords can cancel it any time they want.

  7. If you can’t pay the property tax you can’t afford rent. A paid off home is one of the strongest investments into retirement.

  13. If they are wrong, where is the massive surge of foreclosures? Where is the mass of surge in inventory? Where is the surgeon unemployment? Why is hiring still not below 6 million per month? And why is home prices still increasing in most housing markets? Why are most homes selling in less than a month?

  16. I can see that. When I bought in 2014 they were calling for a massive crash in housing people called me a fool for buying a house 0% down. Yet here I am with a mortgage at $718 and they are paying $1500 for rent.

  36. Nice the military retirement is very nice. Even though our household will get that also I am putting money into my Roth and with a paid-off house a 70% reduced SS that will pay the bills. But I will work till 67 as that extra payments if will help a lot more than the lower pay of early.

  41.  @jermon983  people at all income levels make poor choices with money. My co worker made $250K for his household income but when his income dropped 26K in 2008 he lost everything. I remember he bought an Audi S4 to save on money on gas.

  42. LOL I love your lie that mortgage is not stability over renting. My mortgage with taxes and insurance in 2014 it was $917 now in 2023 it is $965 a month. My co workers have seen rent increase 70% in the same time.

  44. Owning a house is one of the best investments you can make. Simple fact. We have the same furniture when we were renting as when we were owning. Owning a home is a great way to fix the cost of living. Even now it is hard to find a rental cheaper where you are buying a home.

  45.  @coleycole5344  the boomers were not bought the homes. They bought their homes later and they were small and then they sold them and moved up multiple times to larger homes in the late 80’s and through the 90’s in the 70’s and first half of the 80’s it wasn’t boomers buying things.

  48.  @mullerk2  with renting you are still paying utilities. And maintenance you can do a lot to keep that price cheaper and you know you want short cut and make it low quality repair.
