@legalcams There isn't single person who is homeless that is lazy. Laziness is a capitalist myth made up to make workers feel bad when they get burned out. Other countries have ended homelessness, so its really not that hard to do. Its just homelessness is a great tool for the capitalists to drive workers to work for less and to do incredibly shitty jobs. If you had the choice to live on the streets or work a shitty job for way to many hours that doesn't pay enough, most people will take the shitty job to stay housed. We also decided that housing should be tools of investment for gaining wealth, and in a system built around greed that also greatly rewards greed, it only makes sense you will have a bunch of people hoarding property. We no longer build homes to house people but to instead we build them to make a tiny select few people richer. The vast majority of addicts are housed. Homelessness is never an individual issue and always a systemic issue.

@gabbar51ngh And the only reason they are profitable is because of all their real estate investments. The rail companies own everything around the rail stations. The rail companies use the profits from this to help subsidize the ticket price. The way urban planning in Japan is also way different than in USA, where the federal government on Japan has way more control over urban development than the federal, or even state governments do here in the states. States can do the same damn thing, privatization will just make it more expensive because now someone needs to profit. Just look at how poorly the privatization of toll roads has gone and how expensive tolls have gotten due to profit seeking instead of just providing a service.

@marleonetti7 Yeah, you have no idea what it's like to be poor. The poverty line is far to low that many people who do not fall under it, are still in poverty yet they dont qualify for anything you mentioned. Maybe if we as a nation were less concerned with having our numbers look good and more concerned with making sure everyone has enough, than more people would be eligible for the programs. But why do that when we can make our poverty numbers artificially low by not having the poverty line keep up with inflation. And I dont know where you get this idea that poor people have cash side hustles. The majority dont, and most people with cash side hustles are people who already have money but feel they can never have enough.

@marleonetti7 There is a poverty line. Not falling under that poverty line disqualifies you from the benefits you mentioned. The poverty line at the federal level and ones set at their own state level have never kept up with inflation. So once again, there are many poor people who don't qualify for these programs because they aren't poor enough. California is no different. They have the lines set for how much you can make to qualify, and many people make just slightly to much. Those people are still poor. They still cant afford Uber. So, do you want to claim you know what poor people get when many of those in actual poverty don't qualify because inflation outpaces the poverty line, even in California.

@kjhuang Street cars dont suck, and they had a very extensive street car network, as did pretty much every city in the country. If you have a good street car network, than that's "rapid transit", whatever you mean by that.

@kjhuang No, street cars don't suck. Poorly designed public transportation sucks, and grade separation is incredibly expensive. Street cars, or even buses, with dedicated lanes are extremely efficient and far cheaper to install. We should be trying to get cars off the road, grade separation doesn't achieve that as well, because it doesn't change the driving itself. Want more people to take public transportation instead of their cars, you need to make driving suck. Did you even watch the CityNerd video? He was gushing about Portland NS streetcar line and how much it has been an economic boom for the city. His argument clearly wasn't that street cars are bad, his argument is that cars ruin street cars Its funny, street cars came before cars, and then cars were used to destroy the street car, and instead of fighting back and getting the streets back to the people, we want to spend billions on grade separated transit so we can continue to make it convenient for cars to get around. Street cars are fucking awesome. Cars are ruining everything.
