NYC Taxi is likely to not serve EWR because it's not longer part of the NY jurisdiction and it would do the OPPOSITE You would be charged more because EWR would be treated like an airport in Vermont ("distant")

Bingo

The acronyms for "nEWaRk" ATC doesn't allow airports to to have codes starting with "N" for some tech-related reason

For airlines to charge more because it's very easy for them to state "You are traveling to a distant; non-metropolitan area, so the fees are going to be a bit more" They gonna charge you as if you were flying to South Dakota

Newark Liberty is in Newark, New Jersey BUT it's in the New York metropolitan area and the airspace is part of the "New York Class B" status. But here's why this change matters. If someone were to book a flight to/from New York, they would have the options of LaGuardia; JFK and Newark airports because it's part of the Greater New York area, but it also means that flights rescheduled or redirected can be rotated to either three airports without any "extra fees" if done so. Because of this change to make Newark Liberty "independent," airlines can now classify EWR as a "distant" hub (similar status as flying to a rural Vermont) and charge you more for gate fees. Leaving the grouping as a "New York -based" airport now treats EWR (Newark Liberty) as no longer part of NYC. That means: You would be charged higher fees if your flight is redirected from either JFK or LGA, which tends to happen often because of overcrowding on those runways... and vice versa for JFK or LGA inbound/outbound flights Does this help a little to help understand why this nonsense

Except, you'll be charged more on gate fees. Guaranteed the next time you fly, the rates gonna increase now Newark would be treated as a "distant" instead of part of a collective group
1
@cxa340 United Airlines but this matters greatly for other airliners that will now treat EWR as a "distant" air hub; which would lead to higher gate fees This wasn't done for no reason as a means to give Newark & Jersey City "independent status"
1
As long as it's part of airspace, it's New York City's airport rather or not for the clout
1
The airlines cos they'll charge more on gate fees

Here's the issue... Flight operators are gonna charge MORE to fly into Newark as opposed to the same fees if you were to fly into JFK or LaGuardia. It's all about the zoning codes.
