A human rights lawyer that won't stand up for human rights. That's who Starmer is. Human rights are apparently entirely contingent on your skin colour, whether you're a Muslim in the UK or a Palestinian in the Levant. I don't believe this man has any principles or shame. I'll remember. Will you?

So far, this has been a lesson in futile semantics. Is anyone in doubt that Israel are committing war crimes and crimes against humanity? What is the reason for "restraint" of food, water, fuel and electricity to an already impoverished population?
29
Ukraine and Russia were not part of the ICC either. The argument whether it's legal is moot as Putin is also wanted by the Hague, and the US and Israel praised the decision. They created the precedent.
26
How about you mention that the very cause of this conflict is a brutal Israeli occupation of Palestine for generations? You know, context and perspective?
25
Don't celebrate before you see who replaces Assad and whether or not Syria devolves into a failed state. This could be another Iraq. I'll hold the "Mission Accomplished" thank you.
22
Your analysis is primarily parroting the Israeli talking points and sources, but with lip service to the civilians suffering. Maybe do your job as journalists and don't simply copy whatever BS you're fed?
17
This is such an American take on the conflict. You don't have the courage to address the causes of this conflict: Israel has occupied Palestine for 56 years. The illegal settlements, the checkpoints, the extrajudicial killings, the imprisonment without due process, theft of land and access to water... The systematic humiliations and violence by Israeli though generations is the sole cause for all this. End the occupation. End the settlements. End the conflict. End of.
15
"Getting out of the Matrix" Ironically by being programmed into a certain type of thinking...
13
I was so saddened when I heard Prigozhin would fall off his balcony in a week from now....
12
No one "ignited war" except Israel. A blockade is an act of war. Illegal settlements are an act of war. Occupation is an act of war. The Palestinian people have a right to exist, to defend themselves and to resist occupation.
11
Here's a thought: Why spend time pivoting to American related news on your global podcast? Plenty of material to cover, and perhaps a couple of more Americans would be aware of the ongoings outside the US and Europe if you spent that time on, well, world news instead.
8
I'll need some sources for that. Israelis are, genetically speaking, a cluster of different groups among them European, Russian, Iranian and Arabian. There is no single "Jewish" genetic marker because these were disparate communities and you can convert into the culture/people as well as the religion.
8
Regarding the Gaza pier: Why would the US spend 320 million $ on a pier, when they could've just made (illegal) weapons shipments contingent on sufficient aid being delivered? I'll tell you why: This is the means and method by which Israel, aided by the US, plans to ethnically cleanse the population , after the initial plan of pushing them into the Egyptian desert was refused.
8
It's the peak of gaslighting, if you make it out as if the US haven't deliberately provoked the conflicts and postures we've seen in Ukraine and Palestine and how the US have positioned themselves with regards to Taiwan. The bully is crying foul because his targets have started to use his own methods against him.
8
The US hegemony deserves to end. If we don't adhere to our values and morals, I don't see why we in Europe should stay aligned with the US clear goal of antagonizing everyone to remain "top dog". Whatever the fuck that means, as it's surely not in education, health-care, infrastructure, crime, living standards etc...
7
@bereal6590 Oh dear, you really got me... Try arguing with facts and full sentences next time.
7
On the continent Labour today would be considered centre, not a social democratic party.
6
You're kidding yourselves if you believe that Starmer's Labour will be significantly different from the current government.
5
It's not a bad idea, but frankly, the average American voter can't even be bothered to learn about the candidate. If anything, they should clearly note who donated to them and their super Packs. That's tells you much lore about their agenda. Who owns your candidate? I don't see how their cabinet appointments would help the decision considering the level of information and education and lack of political literacy with the average American voter. Just my 2 cents from Europe.
5
I'm just going to say it: Israeli soldiers in Gaza are fair game. They're an occupying force that have conducted war crimes against the people of Gaza. The people of Gaza have a right to exist and a right to resist.
5
Exactly. If you want more accurate analysis and reporting, forget British or American media.
5
This is reminiscent of the South's "states rights" issues to be honest. You should have addressed the elephant in the room.
4
Iran didn't "attack Israel". They responded to an act of war and war crime: The bombing of the Iranian embassy. The retaliation itself was designed as a demonstration to save face and de-escalate the tension. Or are we just making shit up as usual when it comes to Israel? PS: I hold no love for Iran. But facts used to be important.
4
The US has leverage over Israel? Tell that to your politicians that have their balls in an AIPAC vice...
4
How much will you bet he commits "suicide" while the cameras are conveniently not working in his cell?
3
I'd like your take on Iraq 20 years after.
3
Israel. No wait, they're doing the whole "blood", "soil" and "chosen people" thing. Nvm.
3
Get an AC or move seems to be the obvious solution. Let people have their bars and cafes instead of turning everything into a sterile hellscape to suit some particular need.
3
@Koip2022 That's simply not accurate. They've covered Trump's indictment more than once, and other matters which are solely internal US affairs. Also, they're spending time on candidates (plural) when you very well could wait to see who becomes the front runner for relevant implications on US foreign policy. Campaign boasts and hyperbole is not relevant to anything.
3
Assad "One of the most evil men in modern history". Nope. That's Reagan you're thinking of. Assad just didn't have a good enough PR department.
3
No one cares, lady. You took an event and made it about yourself.
3
They're trying to criminalise asylum seekers, not migration. You legally can't do that, but they're going to try anyway.
3
She'll still be supporting the genocide in Gaza and sacficing Ukrainian lives just to hurt Russia a little bit more. I have no hope for her actually implementing changes that are moral or even legal.
3
In the current system, you're absolutely right. It would never succeed without a very high level of political education and fluency in the citizenry. And we're not even close to that level of citizen engagement in any country, but the US is especially egregious...
3
If the US stops funding and supplying the genocide in Gaza, Israel would be forced to pull back and seek a diplomatic solution. They're actively trying to bait out a response in the hopes of a US intervention. And the US morons in charge are allowing it, despite the potential cost in lives, suffering and treasure. Y'all never learn when it comes to war. It won't end well for the US, yet again.
3
British and American politics. Very entertaining, but my God, you people deserve some boring, competent people instead...
3
I'm European. And since Trump 1.0, Brexit, Orban, Bolsanaro, Modi etc, it was very clear to me that NATO needs to end if Europe doesn't want to stay a US vassal. We can't trust the Americans to uphold their agreements anymore and we shouldn't rely on them for anything, including defence manufacturing, energy and tech components. Fair trade and cooperation, absolutely. But no more entangling wars that Europe ends up paying for by absorbing the millions of refugees from America's chaos around the globe.
3
@goldskygregor Because the Tories are different? You need to realise that we've all been had. There's very little difference between Starmer and Sunak. I'll be voting for whoever stands for human rights and acknowledges that racism is a growing problem, especially because of the political discourse.
3
The Israeli hostage came out "gaunt and malnourished". Sure. Care to mention the hundreds of thousands of Gazans that looked the same? How about the thousands of Palestinian hostages in Israeli prisons with documented cases of rape, torture, denied medical care (for cancer) and dismemberment because of infections because their hands were tied too tight and they literally started to rot? Seems like worth mentioning that... And that your guy Biden has been adamantly supporting Israel all the way through every single of these reports.
3
While I support the plight of the trans community, I don't believe that we should focus so much on them. It's exactly what the right wingers want for their "culture war" issues. It's a minority of a minority that have their rightful grievances, but they're not being persecuted or denied any meaningful rights. They deserve all the happiness in the world, but if I have to choose between proper working hospitals, feeding children in poverty or supporting the challenges of being trans: Being trans is not even a blip on the my radar. They face far less public marginalization than Muslims, Migrants or protesters against a genocide do on a daily basis.
2
Yes. And deservedly so. They are backing a racist regime who have clearly signalled their genocidal intent and dehumanising views. The US has lost all credibility and prestige with regards to the international rules based order. And when the Ukraine war ends in the likely defeat of Ukraine because of the sudden lack of US support, combined with reneging of the Paris climate accords and Iran nuclear deal, no one will look to the US to keep its promises in our life times. As a European, I'm only saddened we fooled ourselves into believing that following the US was for idealistic, true intentions and not simply to maintain US hegemony by wounding Russia, to the great economic detriment of European countries. Y'all can frankly go to hell. I'm anti-NATO, anti-US from now on. The US has never cared for anything but itself and it's congressional mega-donor Israel.
2
It's alright until you rightfully criticise Israel.
2
You seriously spent 20 min on Trump in a podcast dedicated to international news? And nothing new to report at that...
2
The BJP and Modi are simply the GOP of India. They're nationalists, not patriots. And the people that vote for them sadly don't know better or are beholden to their titanically corrupt political system. Some are of course just fascist nutjobs...
2
@Jaywrites23 This is the second time my comment have been deleted. These DNC grifters sure have thin skin...
2
Is it just me or does Suella look like Dobby the House Elf?
2
You should dedicate an entire episode with research and a deep dive into specific conflicts eg Iraq & Afghanistan aftermath and lessons, US-Israel relations in the Middle East and the plight of Palestinians, China & Taiwan, Greece & Turkey, Modi's India. Cheers for a great channel
2
No politician lies? Damn. That's a tall order.
2
No one's going to do dick. Because we all know there's an election coming up and you might elect Trump again. An agreement with the US cannot be trusted.
2
Your viewpoint on the Middle East is extremely "American" even for progressive liberals. You should invite some people in with different perspectives that can challenge your analyses and viewpoints, as I find them inadequate if you truly wish to inform your audience.
