Let's hope to the heavens that the US leaves NATO. Europe needs to stand on its own, not be vassal states to the US constant belligerence.
1
Probably a 2 point bump
1
Turkey is vastly more important for NATO security than Greece. That's the simple truth of it. Greece is a country of 10 million and has one of the worst economies in Europe. I love the Greeks and their proud history and culture, but they remind me of the small dogs that are overly aggressive and keep barking at the much larger dogs.
1
The US blew up Nordstream. No doubt of that. The fact that Russia hasn't publicly said this is all the proof you need. They know, and the US know they know. The EU public and especially the Germans and Poles got played like a drum.
1
@Wolf-Spirit_Alpha-Sigma Always a possibility, of course. But frankly, if I have to compare my general "Qui Bono" scepticism with the raging "Murica boner" Europe has right now, I don't think I'm the one in the wrong here. The US is effectively pushing their anti-Russia and anti-China agenda for no other reason than to maintain their dwindling hegemony and are using the european economy as a sacrificial lamb to achieve that goal. We're fools in Europe if we think that the US has anything but their own (and somehow Israel's) interests first... "Fight Russia till the last Ukrainian", remember?
1
Remember the promise God gave Abraham about the promised land? Well, the Canaanites were living there before the Hebrew tribes came and genocided them.
1
The "demographic collapse" in many developed countries (not China, obviously) might in the end turn out to be a boon with automation and AI, lessening the impact of unemployment and greater social security expenses for lower end jobs. And as an added bonus, our climate impact will drastically decrease. Glass half full, maybe?
1
I never said that. I said that fewer people of working age that wouldn't go unemployed might be a hidden boon instead of all doom and gloom as the "growth for the sake of growth" economists would have you believe...
1
Yes. Soooo unexpected... ... that he didn't fall off a balcony instead.
1
The GOP is the Party of Trump now. It's wishful thinking.
1
Russia will make sure that the "border dispute" is never settled. There will be no NATO membership for Ukraine in the foreseeable future, unless Ukraine miraculously achieves total victory in the war.
1
Not exactly important geopolitical content compared to the outright genocide in Gaza, fully supported by the US. But sure, let's hear about Jennifer Lawrence's paycheck.
1
There are already "water wars". What do you thing the entire illegal Israeli settlement project is based on?
1
Why? The UK military is a joke. Do you want a participation trophy?
1
You oppress, humiliate, impoverish and occupy a people for generations, it shouldn't come as a surprise that they're not simply going to take it. The thousands of Palestinians killed the last decade including women, children, healthcare personnel and journalists alone should tell you that Israel are not the "victims" here. I just wish that the politicians and media would call it what is: A brutal apartheid regime that uses terror as a policy against the Palestinian people.
1
And what about the rights of Palestinians in the occupied territories. They don't protest because it'll likely result in imprisonment, beatings and/or death. It's shameful to present this as a victory for democracy when these very same protesters wouldn't give it thought when it happens to another people occupied and oppressed by them.
1
You should. The southwest of the US already has a severe water crisis which will only worsen with climate change weather patterns.
1
Calling it a 2nd Holodomor is a hyperbole. And I say that as someone who absolutely despises Putin's Russia. Please stop using this type of exaggeration as it only serves to diminish actual systematic ethnic cleansing and/or genocide as we "recently" saw in Rwanda, Bosnia, Myanmar and Palestine. In comparison, the civilian casualties in Ukraine doesn't even come close to the Russian wars in Syria or Chechnya (or Iraq and Afghanistan if you want a more Western comparison...)
1
The WTF moment was when the ICJ voted 16 to 1 to continue the case of genocide against Israel and the US continued it's veto in the UNSC and their defense of these atrocities. No action, no sanctions, not even condemnation of specific events that are clear crimes. That was the day when any and all moral authority that Western democracies still had left was gone for good. And we will all remember which side these so-called "civilised" countries where on once again, from Algeria to Vietnam to Iraq to South Africa to Palestine. Never again? How about just not being part of it for once ?
1
If it happens, prepared for a massive media campaign to now tell you how bad these people are and why the US should liberate their people...
1
So you're telling me that that infinite economic growth in a world with finite resources isn't working out. Color me surprised.
1
You're not a democracy if you've occupied an entire population and refuse to grant them the same civil rights.
1
Are Russians conducting divisive propaganda campaigns in the West? Yes. Absolutely. Zeihan is usually not one to be cautious, but these initial claims are preposterously and unambiguously wrong. From the political landscape to environmentalism to Covid, there is a "core" of approx 1/3 of Americans that are illiterates scientifically, politically and towards their sources of information. TL:DR Many Americans are simply too stupid to realise they are stupid.
1
It's Israel. They're trying to provoke a reaction and thus involve the US in their genocidal war. The timing with the attack in Lebanon is not a coincidence. But Iran as usual is all bark and no bite. Their anti-israel stance is primarily a vehicle for firing up the bae at home, just as Israel uses Iran for the same purpose. It's more difficult to criticise your governments if they have you convinced you're in an existential struggle with a nearby enemy. It's amateur theater.
1
Yeah, but if they're Hindu nationalists worshipping Modi, they should probably stay home. Their values towards women and people of different religions are not welcome.
1
The US has for 60 years treated Cuba the same way as China has been treating Taiwan recently. Yes, that includes plans for invasion or overthrowing their government. And why is a spy base on Cuba such a big deal when the US has 179 military bases and an ungodly amount of espinoage centers and black sites around the world. I abhor the CCP and everything it stands for, but my god, the sheer hypocrisy and arrogance of the US on these matters! You need to be (and for most Americans, probably are) absolutely ignorant of your own history to defend US policies abroad in such an arrogant manner.
1
Peter, my man, you need a haircut.
1
@sis1296 The QUAD is not a thing. It keeps getting mentioned, but it's effectively dead.
1
Millennials are only entitled to you trying to understand their situation. Financial crises, Housing bubbles, Job insecurity, A pandemic, and now a combined recession, inflation and energy crisis. Now compare with your youth and young adulthood and the opportunities you had and tell me that things aren't harder today for them?
1
Dude, don't you ever hang out with your wife and kids? (Assuming you're married + kids, ofc)
1
Zelensky, a regional comedian, is now allegedly worth more than Kevin Hart. How is that exactly explained except the wholesale thieving of their countrymen. This is why Ukraine can enter talks with the EU, but shouldn't be eligible for entering for at least a generation.
1
The people with great talent and a global mindset despise Modi's BJP and their plans for India.
1
The US has no problem in consuming processed s*** for food, though.
1
Are you fucking kidding? They've been under a completely meaningless and destructive trade embargo for decades to placate the Cuban American population in Florida that just wanted to stick it to Castro. Venezuela and Bolivia have received the same treatment recently because they didn't abjectly bend the knee to US interests. Meanwhile, Israel is not only doing trade freely, they're receiving billions in aid and billions more in ordnance. Get your shit together, Peter. Context is pretty important in geopolitics.
1
Desolation Sound doesn't sound like a good time...
1
@John-bravooo Again, simply not true. Gaza is occupied territory under international law and has been since 1967. They've "been at war" since 1967 and the aggressor is clearly the occupier = Israel. Or do you think that the tens of thousands of Palestinian civilians killed before october 7th don't count?
1
@nathanron970 Don't worry. She'll soon be suffering again under the Israelis when her family are forcibly evicted from their homes and their water wells seized, like they've done with so many Bedoiun Arabs in the Negev. It's okay, because they voted and decided that some minorities have fewer rights, even if they're citizens.
1
Israel isn't "under attack". They are besieging Gaza and have done so for 17-18 years. Act of war. They are an occupying nation. Act of war. They insist on expanding illegal settlements on the West Bank. Act of war. The "Attack" has been going on since 1967 and by Israel.
1
It's funny how governments only seek to undermine the judiciary when it considers their abhorrent law proposals to be illegal.
1
The Ukrainian demography is unfortunately just as bad, and bound to worsen if Europe opens up easy acces to migration and/or admission to the EU... I can't blame the young and educated people that choose to seek a better life, but the problem remains.
1
It's a numbers game. The Russians' employ cheap (and crappy) drones. The Ukrainians have to expend expensive missiles to shoot them down. If the West doesn't foot the bill, Ukraine simply doesn't have the economic resources to continue.
1
Silicium. Silicone is used for plugging toilets and buffing boobs
1
I don't see the huge problem, tbh. The tax burden can be alleviated by loans in the coming 20 years (China is too big to fail to be denied loans despite an atrocious loan/GDP ratio, much like the US) and increased automation and digitisation will eventually make up for the manpower loss. Many companies are divesting from China already due to increased wages, and the decreased population will become a hidden boon preventing mass unemployment. Added bonus: The planet will thank us for fewer people to consume useless shit we don't need.
1
Would it be wrong to call this "a chink in Chinas diplomatic armour" ?
1
This is such gaslighting. Hundreds of people were hit by these bombs. Only a few happened to be Hezbollah. It was Israeli terrorism, llain and simple. Too bad no one dares to call it out as it is among our western politicians.
1
@davidlinehat4657 Sure. No argument there. However, you didn't in the least respond to the second part of my comment. The important part. And in the broader context, when has Israel ever actually suffered consequences for their crimes, present and past?
1
Easy. Inflation.
1
Did you mean F-35s?
1
Sure. They'll just use whatever other dirty energy source they have lying around. Don't be surprised if you hear of India or China's "Coal" revolution any day now. The Boomer generation has turned out to be the most shortsighted, greedy and egotistic generation of them all. No worries, they'll be long gone when the rest of us has to pay the price for their greed.
1
The debt ceiling discussion is extremely tiresome. Of course they won't default. Period.
