@jimmagspanton669 I am intrigued. What are these health and safety concerns ?
1
@jimmagspanton669 I have not ever worked from home. I started as an apprentice in the heavy electrical industry. Then onto the spanners elsewhere. Please tell me what the health and safety issues are with the terminals to French are going to install at their immigration check post at Dover. The description I have seen is that they are essentially like self check-ins at air ports. What Health & Safety issues do they have ?
1
@jimmagspanton669 It is essentially nothing to do with a vehicle. It’s checking people in & out of the European free movement area. I have been told that the same terminals will be installed at Calais to check people out again. It’s also nothing to do with Brexit. It would be happening anyway because the U.K. was never in the free movement zone. Pretty sure the French have plenty of time to make things safe & that your concerns will just fade away.
1
@jimmagspanton669 It is out of our hands. When it comes down to it the U.K. & the rest of the world has to go along with Europe. You almost seem to be looking for things to worry about. Why not be like me & Alfred E Newman. And say. ‘What me worry’ ?

@jimmagspanton669 Is it correct that the full details of what drivers will need to do have not been announced yet. We can make our assessment of the possible effects only after the full details have been released. Until then we only have speculation which is not even worth the paper it’s written on.

@jimmagspanton669 The BBC had one of the Port of Dover port’s bosses on. He said the the French have been given permission to install extra immigration checkpoints to improve throughput before the new EU checks come in. One thing that would help drivers is by providing them with the correct paperwork. Can save them hours or even days while it’s being sorted.

@georgemichaels9057 What is reality ?

They managed it on Shetland ( population less then 250,000 ) when they needed to house workers carrying an upgrade at Sulom Voe. Two barges like the Portland one at Lerwick. One cruise ship at Scalloway.

Is it time Nigel, Gove and Boris why NHS waiting lists haven’t faded away ?
1
It was a democratic vote that is partly to blame for the current situation. Why are we still still complaining.
1
I am a little disappointed with N&S.

@walkingwithshadows Starmer does not have any say in the matter. Surprised you did not know that.
1
@AM-fs1je We did take our ball & go home. The referendum said leave. The last general election even the 'Red Wall' said leave. The Lib Dems were more. Let's just think about this. They did not do well in the election. I think leaving was a mistake. But i am now decided not to waste effort moaning. I'm now trying to make the best of it.

@walkingwithshadows So what. Corbyn is history.
1
@walkingwithshadows Just who do you thinks is going to repeat Corbyn ?
1
@walkingwithshadows True but Bo-Jo and co don’t seem bothered about being trusted. Unfortunately people did not want EU regs. Regs that demand large fines if say just too much sewage spills into rivers & sea. Large fine depress shareholder pay outs.

A near relative who lives in Kent suggested that the stories about long queues of lorries on the M20/A20 are a bit overblown. I decided to take a look. I called in at Stop 24. Motorway service area & truck park. There is a purpose built checking facility just in the concourse right by the door to the truck park. When I arrived three drivers were having the paperwork pre checked. There did not appear to be any problems & they were sorted quickly. I feel it makes sense for drivers to have their paperwork checked before they are allowed to enter the port. Much easier to sort problems while the lorry is parked up rather than when going through customs. I drove on down the M20/A20 before turning right onto the A2 on the island at the port entrance ( aprox 15.00hrs ) perhaps it was a slow day. But how many lorries were in a queue to enter the port. None.

Ukraine & Russia between them are the worlds largest grain producers. We also appear to rely on Russia for much of our oil & gas. Would it be possible that Russia could decide to sell these products to say China etc. Cutting the west out of the market for food & energy.

@deannilvalli6579 Overbooking caused the queues. How can you blame Brexit for the ferries over booking ?
1
@deannilvalli6579 Not funny for those held up by overbooking. I pass through Dover on a coach up to six times a year. We have reached the holding area from entering the port in as little as half an hour. The longest transit time from entry to holding area just over 45 minutes.
1
I have not traveled Dover/Calais/Dover since the start of Covid-19 but. Back them both ports had separate channels for EU & non EU passport holders.

According to the BBC there is every chance she may end up in prison.

@paultaylor7082 You comment mirrors almost exactly what has been said on the BBC. As you say a criminal conviction will impact on all sorts of things including insurance premiums.
