  4. It is more likely that it is a patient who went to the hospital for something and brought it back with them after they contracted it at the hospital. Or from nursing staff who was picking up extra shifts at the hospital (either for extra money, or to help out, or both). Either way, it is shameful what is going on in assisted living facilities and nursing homes all across America.

Philly poo-poo'd the "stay at home" orders of 1918 and held a parade to raise funds for the war (via bonds as you said), thus infecting and practically wiping out the entire city. All while SF was being smart and shutting everything down. Here we are 100 years later, and Philly is making the same mistakes, while SF is following the same sound advice as they did back then. Both cities are seeing similar outcomes as they did in 1918. I guess some CAN actually learn from history!

  13.  @rstuv8141  Thanks! Yes, I was speaking about business insurance. Our agent (the one I had contacted) actually just emailed to reach out and see if all was ok (it is, so far). My block got together and hired private security to spend the night on each end of the block Sun and Min nights. They chased off looters Sun night (and it was caught on a few ring cameras). But Mon was quiet. We are hoping LA stays peaceful and goes back to worrying about the coronavirus. Unfortunately in 2 weeks, I am afraid we will see the backlash of these protests in the Covid numbers. Stay safe and healthy!

  14.  @rstuv8141  Our block hired 2 armed security guards for 3 nights in a row with one positioned on each end. The first night, two ring videos caught on camera, the guards chasing off two would be looters. The next 2 nights were quiet, but we were all happy to pitch in $50 a night to sleep easily! Hopefully things will be quiet this weekend!

However, once you watch the documentary, which speaks to many other problems of the time we don't deal with now, it not only speaks to wearing masks and things we are still dealing with today. But in addition to the points you just made, there are some fascinating historical points that might hopefully give people a different perspective as to how we need to learn from the larger points that correlate to 1918 (SF, Philly, numerous waves). Most people just know we had a pandemic in 1918. But actually watching the doc (and leaning something about it) is a whole different story.

  17. The school that has Charlie Kushner's name on it is a k-12 private school, only named after the Kushners bc Charlie donated money to the school. It has absolutely nothing to do with Trump. The loan was to pay the administration and teachers so they could continue to work and educate the kids in that community (like my nieces). THIS is the definition of FAKE NEWS. Winding everyone up by feeding them misinformation or half of the story. 75% of the PPP must be spent on payroll and the rest on things like rent and utilities. It didn't go into Kanye's pocket, nor does it have anything to do with Jared. MSNBC should be ashamed of themselves!

  27. Trump aside, people hate wearing masks. Yes, some use politics as an excuse, and we fight with them all the time. Surgeons who wears masks practically all day long, and even enforce the current law in our state, still refuse to wear a mask during their off time, when they (still) host BBQ's, etc. They couldn't care less about what Trump says or does. They just think that they won't get it. Like all the other who think they are immune. No one is immune! But it is no different than the gun argument, or vaccines, or even abortion. People want the right to choose what they do in their private time, and their are enough of them to gather and spread Covid-19. Thus won't be over in November and even if Biden wins, you will see the same problems. You can't blame it on anyone in government.

  31. Florida is known as the ultimate battleground state, with 29 electoral seats (3rd most in the country). FL typically votes Red (barring some notable flukes). If Biden picks someone who will hurt him in a State like Florida, Trump wins. This story won't die until oppo research on someone else pops up and ends its news cycle. That is why Florida is important and everyone cares about the Cuba story.

HOWEVER, #2, having raised 4 kids who are already leaders, and of whom I am very proud... regardless if we agree, they know to respect authority, their elders, other people'sviews and opinions, and MOST OF ALL, whatever their view is, they should always comport themselves in a calm, collected and respectful manner. Screaming obscenities simply for air time, when half the viewers will see you as a lunatic, is NOT the way to get your point across. They learned it from me, they learned it from debate class, and they learned it from watching people like the woman in this video.   36. Have you watched it? It is fascinating. Simply from a historical perspective. Yes, it is interesting how things have not changes in 100 years, but there is plenty of other things are are really worth watching. Especially how they found samples that had been in permafrost in Alaska but were discovered by a doctor in the 50's and then used to study the disease. It is really worth watching!

The news did not cover it accurately at all (Fake News, lol!), which means people will run around misquoting what actually happened (as a historian, it irritates me). And my apologies as well--they were merely in reaction to your words. I also have teens (4), and they are constantly on Tik Tok. I told them they all had to be "private". But I do hear some horror stories from them about their friends and what goes on. Chona aside, the general stupidity of it aside, I don't think it is the healthiest app. And we are all too wrapped up right now to monitor and deal. At least they can't leave the house, lol! Most grocery store workers--those who work at the large chain markets like Ralph's or Trader Joe's--actully get paid surprisingly well ($17+ an hour just to bag groceries), and get full medical benefits including dental! AND they are currently hiring! That cannot be said for most people, especially these days.

I just moved my kids to private school so they could be IN school and found out that in some of their classes, THE TEACHERS are at home, teaching on Zoom, while the kids are in the class! And did you hear Jeanine Pirro's open today? Clearly I am not the only one who thinks there is a problem. And I am the daughter of an inner city PS teacher of 33 years. I support the UFT! But this year has been a mess!

Why discourage others from what they want to do either bc they feel they need it, or they feel there is a moral obligation to take it, or they simply trust the science and want to get on with their lives? Many places will be making it mandatory (such as I will for my employees, as I can per law). Worry about your own battles you will have to fight regarding your position against the vaccine, don't worry about others.
