  3. i've been there was good to see all the crocs. the crossing is tidal and the tides up there are huge so it rises and falls quickly with a large variation in depth. if you cross at the right time its only a trickle.

  6. australian possoms have sharp claws for climbing trees. and they can bite like hell. they aren't scared of humans either. even if they just climb on you they'll scratch the shit out of you without trying. doesn't stop us from hand feeding and patting them. they'll come out and meet you at night nearly anywhere you camp near trees.

  9. most places in australia you don't get served, it's only really sit down restaurants and some cafes you'll know if you're going to be served at the table because they'll give you a number on a stand to put on the table. some places will give you a buzzer to take to the table that lets you know when your food is ready for you to collect or they'll call your number or put it on a screen. most bars you go and buy you're own drinks as needed. also it might not be mandatory but you usually tidy your table before you go. places like mcdonalds etc you put your tray back and rubbish in the bin so all the staff have to do is a quick spray and wipe of the table.

  35. australia definitely doesn't have the same road quality because it's a huge country. but for all the efficiency and safety of european roads and drivers i think i'd much rather not have that level of conformity and government regulation. i like the gravel roads, i like undulating roads with corners, i like roads that have variety where you have to pay attention and drive the car not just sit there in the cookie cutter car driving like robots.

  42. ok watched the whole video and as australian i thought it was useless. would be a bit like me doing a history of another country by having a quick look at wikipedia and reading some internet opinions. for example gallipoli anzacs were used as cannon fodder and suffered greatly, but they learn't and they became formidable. the pivotal battle that brought about the end of the ottoman empires 600yr reign was fought at beersheba where 800 lighthorseman with bayonets in hand charged 3000 entrenched riflemen, artilliary with german air support. capturing the well at beersheba and breaking the ottoman empires lines within a month the anzacs were the first to enter jerusalem and accept their surrender.

  44. it would probably surprise a lot of people to find out eastern greys and red kangaroos grow to near identical max sizes for males. they fight everyday, but serious fights usually take place in the arvo before sunset it's not uncommon for the whole mob to watch at a safe distance.

  45. last one was a freshy, if it was a salty he'd be finished. crocodile/alligator statistics are pretty useless, because your risk is relevant to your actions. ie you might be statistically more likely to be hit by lighting but if you were to swim in any waterway or go to the waters edge where theres crocodiles your risk increases to near certainty. the statistics are low because people must avoid crocodiles.

  46. it used to be called the australian safari and it was more like a dakar type race. it was held in different locations each year. seems like it's more rally and less offroad racing oriented these days. you'd be surprised how many australian parts are in baja 1000 vahicles like albins, hollinger, proformance etc
