@Brobold The sharpie rumor has been completely debunked. The company that makes the counting machines lists them as one of the acceptable methods in the instructions (including the mail in ballots) and any ballots that get rejected by the machine are manually checked and counted as long as the intent of the voter is clear. Arizona was just called too early. It will likely still end up going for Biden but Trump wasn't completely mathematically eliminated when it was called which was a mistake.

@The Brain I'm just going to stop voting from now on. We haven't had a good President or government in general since Clinton and it doesn't look like that's going to change anytime soon. I took a gamble on Biden this time because I simply couldn't stomach Trump's behavior (and a good bit of his platform) any longer and thought the Republicans would keep the Senate (and thus be able to block the more mindlessly progressive bills that came along.) Maybe someday a party will come along that remembers what it's like to work with others and reach acceptable compromises...

@bbchester6 Not a great analogy considering abortion isn't contagious and does not endanger the public.
1
The verdict will be overturned on appeal and he'll be quietly acquitted in a second trial once the angry mob has found something else to be angry at.
1
Those aren't supported by evidence, just claims of evidence and thus can't be considered facts.
1
Indeed, god forbid any Republican have the balls to call Trump on his bs...
1
You're angry because you've been told that the election was a fraud. So far, no actual evidence or testimony has been presented in court and under oath which shows any kind of widescale fraud that could "steal" an election. It's all just been evidence of the same random irregularities and non party exclusive minor frauds found in every election. None of which even comes close to what would be necessary to be responsible for Trump's loss.
1
Then walk.

Hurry before people do their research and find out that HEPA filters aren't as effective when it comes to viruses as some think.
1
Moderate and centrist conservatives are equally motivated to prevent MAGA from thoroughly destroying the Republican party though so don't get your hopes up.
1
You don't need to discount such stories. You just need to remember that they're just stories. They may be true or they may not. Such stories should just be seen as jumping off points for investigation. If people always ignore anonymous sources, then many true scandals/crimes would never get investigated. It does help to remember that the only important aspect of such stories are the bits that can be proven/disproven. The opinions of those reporting them are unimportant and should be ignored.
1
Because you never get in the way of your opponent when they're kicking their own ass.
1
That assumes the American people actually have any sense left...as polarized as things have become, that's a big assumption.
1
The only authority figure more useless than Trump, is the God of the Abrahamic religions.
1
No justice here kid. Just placating an angry mob.

I find it interesting that people don't seem to think that the phone call being made to begin with is a problem...The head of the executive branch of the federal government meddling in any way with how a State runs their elections should not happen. Especially when the official they're trying to influence is of the same party and will thus feel much more pressure to comply than otherwise. The founding fathers left the executive branch of the federal government out of the loop completely when it comes to elections for a reason. They didn't want an incumbent trying to use their position to influence those responsible for elections in any way. Beyond that, no candidate regardless of party etc. should be personally interacting with state election officials. If they feel there's a legitimate reason for some sort of action to be taken, then their campaign's legal team can handle it. That's their job. There's no reason for a candidate to get personally involved unless their intent is to use their personal political power as influence.

When it involves the entire country, is expensive, supplies are limited, and many doctors have resorted to spitballing for treatments (throwing random stuff at it hoping something will stick) more so than basing them on sound medical knowledge (less is known about the monoclonal Covid 19 therapies than about the vaccines which makes them an even bigger potential gamble in the long run.) That said, the government's decisions are based off of advice from medical experts so doctors are essentially the ones making such decisions anyway.

Keep supporting mob rule over rule of law and wrongfully convicting them, and there won't be many left when you need them...

@wstavis3135 While not great at preventing the inhalation of the smallest airborne aerosol respiratory droplets carrying the virus, studies going back decades have found that regular surgical masks will trap between ~40% to ~70% of the respiratory fluid the wearer exhales as long as the nose and mouth are covered. If every one wears one, such reduction in the environmental concentration of the virus can be the deciding factor when it comes to whether those exposed will reach the viral load necessary to catch the disease. In other words, masks are worn to lessen the chances of infected wearers spreading it far more than to prevent the wearer from catching it themselves. That's why making them voluntary essentially defeats the purpose of wearing them at all.

If the conversation is about her they do.

The current monoclonals are pretty much useless against the current dominant strain. Many hospitals are more or less discontinuing their use as a result. That's the major weakness of the tech. The antibodies cloned are for a specific strain and are rarely of much use against other variants. Thus they become obsolete almost as soon as they come out. Work on Omicron versions is being done but if the case rates remain as high as they are, there will likely be a new dominant strain that pops up by the time it's ready.

@joetheunknown8413 California has nearly twice the population of Florida (~40M vs ~22M). When you account for that you'll quickly see that California's precautions have been far more successful than Florida's. A better comparison method is to determine what percentage of the US population a state makes up and then what percentage of the total US deaths, cases, hospitalizations, vaccinations, etc. they account for. (Florida's numbers are pretty abysmal when compared to the national average while California was mostly breaking even last I checked.)

Prove it or shut up.

If Congress can pass legislation limiting the restrictions that states can place on it, SCOTUS would have to uphold it. Currently, Roe v Wade only really prevents states from enforcing outright bans and there are no federal laws which prevent the restrictions being implemented by Texas and other states so the court can allow said state laws to hold for now. The only way Roe v Wade will get overturned would be if certain Justices were to rule based on their political/religious views rather than on the Constitution. It's likely that at least two of the six conservative justices have enough personal integrity to leave such legally irrelevant views out of their decision so it's unlikely Roe v Wade will fall.
1
@elizabethkraszewski6603 State's rights only exist for things that the Constitution does not specifically give Congress powers over. The Constitution however does give Congress the power to pass legislation giving them such powers (at which point the state's rights concerning it would end.) Also, there's nothing Constitutionally "shaky" about the ground beneath Roe v Wade. The disputes have always been of a political/religious nature, not legal. It simply took awhile for SCOTUS to grow up and remove such irrelevent arguments from their decision on the issue.
1
How about we just do a flat tax and spread the fiscal responsibility evenly and fairly among the population rather than force one demographic to pay more?
1
Someone should let him know that the Keystone pipeline would be equally vulnerable to such an attack and would likely have been hit as well. That would just have caused an even bigger mess.
1
If it weren't for the fact that the cuts are needed to cover the horribly loosided tax cuts in favor of the wealthy, I might understand. As it is however, they're garbage for a garbage reason. Especially compounded with the economic issues this administration is causing that will only get worse over time. It's a kick to the people's groin and teeth at the same time.
1
@dcorica79 The head RINO has already been voted out...and still the GOP bows before him...
1
The judge already intentionally set it up to be overturned on appeal with all his his questionable decisions (not moving the trial, sequestering the jury, etc.) before she stuck her nose in it. That way, the jury could appease the angry mob with a wrongful conviction and keep a clear conscience knowing their verdict ultimately wouldn't matter.
1
@DarkmanXSincere Or just someone who bothered to read the autopsy report and actually watch the defense's cross examinations. Edit: Second degree manslaughter was the only charge the prosecution even came close to proving beyond a reasonable doubt.
1
Except according to every poll out there (including from right wing biased sources). Most people simply don't like Vance. He has all the smart 🫏 of Trump with very little of the charisma. It just makes people cringe.
1
If you're refering to the power to set such a mandate and impose fines for not following it, the answer is Article 1, Section 5, clause 2 of the Constitution.
1
All hail mob rule...
1
Why? Rand really doesn't know what he's talking about. It wouldn't even be a fair fight.
1
@SherryG1970 I hope you have no kids...
1
So should the people who vote for them...but apparently that would be asking too much judging from the amount of bs circulating on social media concerning the contents of this bill. The parts that didn't belong and actually cost enough to matter have been removed. Further efforts to hinder this bill will simply be childish spite and spankings may need to be considered...though some of the GOP representatives may actually be in to that sort of thing...
1
God doesn't tend to bless cowards...
1
Why? Fox hasn't been a legitimate news organization for many years now. They chose the tabloid path and deserve to be shunned just like MSNBC.
1
No, the angry mob demanded it.
1
I never thought I'd have to say something like this but...the rioters had more to be legitimately angry about. There's been no evidence or testimony presented under oath in court to support any of these outlandish claims of widescale voter fraud. There are at least videos of cops beating/shooting people (it's up to the individual to decide if they are justified or not.)
1
Considering that Putin has a hit out on him now, custody in France is about as safe as he can be.
1
Changing one solely for the purpose of stealing an electoral vote (as opposed to mitigating a health crisis) is different and you know it. Quit being disingenuous.
1
So somewhere ~10% to ~16% of voters are nutjobs...sounds about right. You'd expect to find at least 10% in any group.
1
Stopping their treatment of Palestinians in Gaza and West Bank as undesirables/something icky they stepped in would be a good start. Groups like Hamas don't form in a vacuum and people don't vote them into power unless the alternative is simply unacceptable. Israel has gone out of it's way over the years to make the Palestinians hate them. As a result, they're not innocent in this by a long shot.
1
SCOTUS is only able to allow such state restrictions currently because Roe v Wade essentially only prevents states from enforcing an outright ban on abortions without addressing restrictions and the Constitution doesn't specifically give Congress any powers over the issue. The Constitution does give Congress the ability to give themselves such powers via legislation however, at which point the states would have to adhere to any such laws set down at the federal level and SCOTUS would be obligated to uphold said laws.

@jessicarenee1004 Like most Ivy League grads, he's good at regurgitating information he's been fed, but get him off script like in a debate, and he'll be lost. I've seen him do so when interviewed on the mass deportation plan. The first question that came up that involved an aspect not covered in Trump's concept of a plan that he had been fed, he stumbled and quickly tried to reroute the questioning. He does OK at rallies and when questioned by Fox etc. because he never has to go off script.
1
The polls are pretty much accurate. Most people find Vance to be cringe. Much of his popularity comes from edgy kids who never grew up.
1
Doesn't really matter since the HEPA filter systems on passenger jets aren't effective enough on their own to deal with viruses anyway.
1
@nickt2822 If you snag the respiratory droplet containing the virus (and definitely larger than it), you snag the virus as well. Surgical masks can catch ~40% to ~70% of the respiratory fluid exhaled by the wearer (depending on the force behind the exhale.) When it comes to inhaling, that drops to ~20% to ~30% (both increase if the mask is worn perfectly but that's not likely going to happen.) Low as it is, if all are wearing surgical masks the combined effect will lessen the overall exposure level in their area by ~50% at least. That can mean the difference in whether or not one gets exposed to a high enough concentration for the virus to overrun their initial immune response, get a foothold, and cause the disease. It's not extremely effective but for droplets too small to be caught, an added layer of silk can help a bit. The static charge it builds up due to friction from inhaled/exhaled gasses has a repellent effect on the water molecules in the droplets and will deflect a small percentage of them on average.
