The green card/work visa demographic have almost all of the same responsibilities that citizens do and contribute significantly to the economy (as well as to tax revenues.) Allowing them some say on how their local government is managed seems like fair recompense for their contributions to me (especially in NYC where they account for ~9% of the population.) If it were federal or state level voting rights, then I could understand the concern but all of this uproar over letting them have a voice in the communities where the live and work...I'm just not seeing it. I wouldn't be surprised if this leads to a spike in those seeking to become full citizens once they've had a taste of having a meaningful voice in what goes on.

@robertgolsong5522 No lies from her here.

@TheLastKentuckyIrregular9524 It's an empty promise like the rest. He only has one term available, so he can promise anything he wants without worrying about accountability for re-election. Also, with him refusing any more debates, he'll never have to explain or defend any enticements he throws out for votes now. Expect many more juicy promises from him leading up to the election.

If it weren't for blue states bailing Louisiana out with their federal tax money, the state would look more like a third world country than ot already does...
4
Bah, just put them to work helping to fix the power grid in return for naturalizing them.
4
@PiperKFly1 He passed on the same invitation twice until it was election year. Then, in his original TikTok ad they put out shortly after the event before the story broke, they had footage of him without the family in various areas of section 60. Having seen the original ad and the fact that his staff behaved the way they did toward cemetary staff (and that they made ads of it at all) makes me think he just used the family's invitation as an excuse to make a campaign ad.
4
He brought this all on himself with his own behavior.
4
Yep... someone should have reminded his attorney the spaghetti needs to at least be partially cooked before such flinging. He couldn't have put much effort into this considering that a couple of the claims made in the motion can be debunked with ~5 minutes of research.
4
Yep, Virginia's actions were. Which is why the DoJ filed suit against Virginia. If you want to get mad, direct it at the incompetence in Virginia's handling of their voter registration. It's atrocious and this could easily have been avoided if they'd simply update their law to modern times like other states have.

They know that the further removed a variant is from the original strain(s) which vaccines or natural immunity were developed for, the less likely those variants will be affected much, if at all, by them. Eventualy variants will pop up that are different enough to require their own vaccine/natural immunity to combat them. Pretty much all viruses work that way.

@db8684 Or start a work for citizenship program and properly expand our workforce, consumer and tax base, and boost our economy instead of wasting money on a losing battle.
4
@carrietapp9277 To do his job, he'd have to know what it is first. That would require him to actually read the Constitution and/or listen to the advice from his experienced aides/advisors who have. He showed no signs of being interested in doing either the first time around and there's no reason to think that would change were he get a second term.
4
Speak for yourself. What goes on globally will have a much greater effect on the country in the long run, than some of the overblown domestic issues currently being worried about by many.
4
You thought wrong. They simply ruled that the federal government/courts are responsible for interpreting and enforcing section 3 of the 14th amendment, not an individual state.
4
Getting tested weekly will be an acceptable alternative for responsible adults. If someone can't be bothered to do something that simple, then let them quit. They obviously have some growing up to do and they can do it elsewhere.
4
@Notthisguyeither His mismanagement and lack of action during his term is what led to most of the problems that caused the inflation. Had he not sabotaged NATO and the US Military's interests in Europe, Putin would never have even considered invading Ukraine for example. Had he been quicker to respond to Covid 19, it would have lessened the impact as well. He never took it seriously and thus allowed it to get a quick foothold here that wasn't necessary forcing some form of costly economic bailouts to be needed.
4
It's not that the government can't afford to do something about homelessness, they simply don't care. The immigrants aren't the problem. This is coming from someone currently living in their car.
4
It does no good for someone who doesn't know the laws to begin with (like you apparently) to read the bills. The result will just be people labeling things they don't like as illegal when they're actually not...
4
Well, fine except for the nearly $1B in personal debt currently owned by Chinese interests...
3
@Parrotgirl-tattoo It would be treated the same as tax revenues.
3
Who's currently losing her bid for re-election.
3
Little League park maybe. Lazy fly ball for high school and above.
3
Get rid of Netanyahu.
3
Because if they don't, people start accusing them of a cover up. They don't like these pointless early conferences either. It's just expected these days so they give them.
3
@truepatriots3860 She can't make outrageous promises. She can serve more than one term and has to worry about accountability for re-election. He only has one left, and with him refusing any further debates, he can promise whatever he wants and not have to explain or defend it.
3
@Freedomfighters55 Actually, the designation of assault rifle is a thing as it has a generally agreed upon definition with a specific list of traits needed to qualify as one. It's the term "assault weapon" that can be defined however someone wants it to.
3
Probably not. He has no idea how to deal with problems he can't buy his way out of and he's too old to learn at this point.
3
Yep cheating the system by making it a nightmare for election workers in heavily populated urban areas (like the changes being made by these Republican led state legislatures will do) is the only way he'll have any chance of winning...
3
We'd get the same from them in a similar situation so who cares?
3
But the fact that even he supports Harris. A party he hates is very telling. You know you screwed up somewhere when you manage to turn Dick Cheney blue.
3
When experienced campaign staff look at the evidence and decide to walk away, the odds aren't good. Plus, CNN's researchers did a thorough job. Given all they turned up, it would be an extreme outlier were it not true.
3
I had almost forgotten the sweeping local changes brought about by Vietnam protests...
3
We have a signed agreement to defend them against Russian invasion. Get over it.
3
@CCook-wv1gk Do yours. Go find the original ad they put out. Not the recent one. At some point they left the family to go get footage of him in various parts of section 60 on his own for use in their ad.
3
Hmmm...Who to take seriously concerning infectious disease...an actual doctor or someone who once covered for a doctor's sex crimes...?
3
Because the ruling directly made caveats for Trump's specific behavior beyond just giving universal legal opinion. They're job was to lay out ground rules for the lower courts to use in their decisions. Instead, they all but told the specific courts handling Trump's cases how to rule on certain specific actions. It was about as obvious of an attempt to bail their buddy out as they thought they might be able to get away with.
3
I'm a states' rights person myself but after looking at how poorly the various state constitutions address elections along with the heavily biased election law changes being made in certain states, it really is time for the federal government to at least lay out some basic rules to make the process more uniform.
3
His own coworkers often heavily edit the majority opinions they let him write because he has no clue what he's doing. Also, Anita Hill told the truth.
3
@quinnhunt6124 The business owners there don't seem to mind...They're thriving and expanding with the increased workforce and consumer base.
3
Those with green cards/work visas (until expired) are considered legal permanent residents of whatever local jurisdiction they live in (there are requirements concerning the minimum amount of time they've lived there etc. just like with anyone else who has moved to a new area.) In this case, they are considered legal permanent residents of NYC making them eligible to vote locally under this law. You however wouldn't be (unless/until you officially took up permanent residency there) thus preventing you from voting in their local elections. Edit: To have a green card/work visa, you must have a permanent address. That address is what decides the area where you are considered to be a permanent legal resident. (It's also used for driver's licenses, vehicle registration, etc.)
3
If they don't give them, they catch flak from people claiming a cover up... In the modern era, people expect to know everything about everything immediately. Unfortunately, any official who knows what they're doing will know that you can't say anything that hasn't been entirely confirmed or that might jeopardize the investigation since the press will run with it, add their speculations to it, and blow things out of proportion.

The virus's genome shows no signs that it is the product of genetic engineering. If it did leak from the lab, it would have come from a sample of a naturally occurring strain. A lab which specializes in coronavirus research is likely going to have such samples. Proving conclusively that the spread was the result of a leaked sample and not from a nstural source will be almost impossible.
3
@scotteaton4868 Not entirely correct. Variants of viruses in general (including respiratory) do tend to be less potent (Edit: when it comes to mortality rate/symptom severity.) However, there's no mechanism which actually prevents the occassional emergence of a stronger strain. Given enough attempts (cases), such a variant could indeed pop up.
3
Probably because there's not a Republican candidate on the ballot and, with him being a centrist, he'll get most of the votes from moderate/centrist Democrats as well a any Republicans who bother to vote.
3
@dolozambra2242 Do you really think Fox, Forbes, WSJ, etc. don't have full time people trying to do just that. The scandals pop up in the GOP because that's what happens when a party gets taken over by a charismatic autocratic who hand picks candidates without vetting them properly.
3
No. Other not quite so off the wall stuff he's said since being in the public eye has come up but nothing like this. Up until now, the positions he's run for haven't really warranted a deep dive into such history from before he became a public figure.
3
@groovytuesday5222 Let the people decide how often they send a particular representative to Washington.
3
Quit censoring comments. It's bad enough that our institutes of higher learning are actively stifling discourse. We don't need the media doing as well. Quit being afraid of offending a faction who fully deserves such offense and let them fight their own battles.
3
@rebeccahoward8927 She's not here. A better question is why is Trump allowed to lie?
3
@charlescoker7752 Why did Trump actively struggle against them to get in a fist pump photo op?
