The more important implication is this: if Ukraine asked for the service, that means the US government is not giving Ukraine access to its own space based military communications channels. If one is a little more primed towards conspiracy theories, then this may actually be viewed as a misdirection... and Ukraine may actually have US support in this area, but the US government wants to have plausible deniability and the story is basically the cover for what is really happening. I am leaning towards the non-conspiracy version. The US is not interested in direct Ukrainian access to its space assets. It opens up too much of a security loophole, especially if the Russians manage to get their hands on the necessary hardware because one of the drone ships fails without exploding. Having said that, it's at most a temporary setback for Ukraine. The ultimate goal for all nations, Ukraine included, are perfectly stealthy autonomous drones that do not rely on any outside connectivity, not even GPS. This is not nearly as hard as people might think. It has already been demonstrated by university students in PhD theses. Ukraine just has to tweak that research a little bit to develop reliable enough solutions for its drone fleet.

I don't believe the UN has much influence on Iran's clerics, does it?
4
Doesn't look like he's on Russia's side. :-)
3
He may not have broken the law. He may have said the wrong word to the big boss. ;-)
3
They don't say that because it's not true. ;-)
3
I agree. I can easily find ten times more Chinese who would like to move to Germany than Germans who would like to move to China. Probably a hundred times as many, actually. ;-)
2
What is a lie? That Ukraine is marching towards Crimea and almighty Russia can't stop it? Well, that just sucks for Russia, doesn't it? ;-)
2
The US hasn't been an unreliable partner. It is simply asking Europe to pay part of the bill for its defense. We ended WW I for you, we ended WW II for you and now you are not even willing to pay the cost to prevent WW III. Guys, you need to grow up over there. I am a left leaning liberal, by the way and I hate Trump. But among the few things that Trump got right was his demand that ALL NATO countries step up. Some of the smaller ones are, but Germany in particular is still playing dumb and doesn't want to pay the piper. It has to stop.

@Fernandino96 My loser-meter just went off.
2
The destruction of half of Ukraine's energy infrastructure has cost Russia all of its modern guided missiles. That was well worth it. :-)
2
@fantasma5764 What's with the broken keyboard? Was it made in Russia? Yo got to be careful... it might be mining your mouse and monitor, right now. ;-)
2
Yes, but we won't tell you about all the things we can do. ;-)
2
@lunerv771 Awh, you are so cute when you are feeling sorry for yourself. ;-)
2
Yes, Ukraine will take over all of Crimea. ;-)

China's GDP (which is NOT the PPP) is still lower than that of the US. Moreover, China's population is declining, which means that all of its GDP growth has to come from an increase in GDP per capita, which will make China less and less competitive in the global markets. China's goose is cooked. Or, better, it's Peking Duck is broiled. :-)
2
Yes, I have been on Chinese transportation systems, too. The trains are an awful waste of time compared to flying and buses are so full that one can't go anywhere during rush hour. China has not been able to solve its transportation problems. An increase in personal car use will do only one thing: clog China's inner cities completely.
2
The kleptocratic elements are the same.
2
Except that Ukrainians are much better organized at it than Russians. Russia made a grave mistake attacking Ukraine. ;-)
2
Did you forget to take your medicine this morning? ;-)
2
Far fewer than on the Russian side. ;-)
2
What are we doing? We are helping people in need, kid. That is what good people do. ;-)
2
Government debt is meaningless. Europe still needs to learn that lesson. It is literally destroying itself with austerity.
1
@Fuckus I know that Russia doesn't want to fight the US, kid. It won't win. Not even a little. It's not winning now and we aren't even fighting. :-)
1
It is going to get worse as long as Xi is in charge. Irrational old men don't make for good partners.
1
Xi is tightening more than just belts, though. It's getting hard to breathe in China. ;-)
1
The Western companies have already closed shop. They will mark all of their Russian assets as a complete loss in their accounting statements and pay less tax on slightly reduced earnings. That's it. How many Russian lives Putin wants to ruin with his childish fit is none of their problem, kid. :-)
1
@matthewlipton2998 Same difference. Wanna bet? If we gave out free EU visa to random people in the street in Beijing or Shanghai, they would be jumping of joy. ;-)
1
@matthewlipton2998 Dude, I know plenty of people from China. Most of them are either PhDs in physics, chemistry and the life sciences OR they are waiters at Chinese restaurants. They have one thing in common: they don't want to live in a corrupt, polluted dictatorship. ;-) It's an even bigger problem for young Chinese men. Most of them will never be able to marry and to have a family. The Chinese family has a 4-2-1-0 structure: four grandparent, two parents and one lonely child who will never get married. ;-)
1
Good luck operating McDonalds equipment without their consumables. Or how about you sell iPhones without having iPhones in stock? :-)
1
@showcaseSampa Yeah, you have never seen a McDonalds, kid. :-)
1
You would be surprised how hard it is to make a good burger (McDonalds can be hardly considered edible on that scale). ;-)
1
The reality is that Turkey is still the sick man of the Bosporus. Nothing has changed in a hundred plus years.
1
Lock them up! Lock them up! Lock them up! :-)
1
Most of that goes towards the social net. You get what you pay for, even if you pay for it with taxes.
1
Lock them up! Lock them up! Lock them up! :-)
1
Russia has a very small number of missiles left and it is even losing its S-400 air defense systems now. ;-)
1
@zmpwins That would explain why Russian soldiers are stealing washing machines and not laptops. Or maybe it's just a sign of limited intelligence, after all. ;-)
1
No, Western companies won't be doing business with Russia for decades. You got that right. :-)
1
Lock them up! Lock them up! Lock them up! :-)
1
I haven't seen much innovation from China, so far. Lots and lots of cheap stuff, though. I love cheap stuff, but when it comes to intelligent products, I buy from the US or Europe. ;-)
1
Trust me, nobody wants to see your dance moves, not even Chinese national security organs. ;-)
1
They are simply taking their dollars and Euros elsewhere. The US is energy independent, anyway and Europe soon will be. You know what they call what Russia is doing right now? Demand destruction. :-)
1
@Abc-me2cx Hello kid who needs attention. Let me give you some. ;-)
1
@Abc-me2cx I think you have the wrong idea of what's going on here. ;-)
1
@Abc-me2cx You are in desperate need of attention and I am giving it to you. ;-)
1
@Abc-me2cx I am still here, kid. ;-)
1
@Abc-me2cx I am giving you all the attention that your Mom didn't. :-)
1
@Abc-me2cx Wow, you are really desperate. :-)
1
It's not the ports. We don't have truck drivers and enough workers in the transport industries.
1
@youngz13o So there is no inflation in Europe and the shops are full with cheap Chinese merchandise. Got you. ;-)
