Supporting young families doesn't help. Plenty of countries are trying that and they are all failing. Single kids don't have a strong psychological desire to have children and certainly not to have multiple children. Quantity also doesn't help. China needs a smaller population but much higher GDP per person. Achieving the latter is the hard part.

@andersemanuel The facts in industrial nations contradict you. The birth rate is usually significantly below 2. Rearing children is a pain and expensive. It's not fun and it's not necessary. Rich people don't give a rat's tail about what poor people do. You are clearly not a rich person. You do have your brain stuck in the past, though. :-)

@andersemanuel I am sure they will all make lots and lots of grandchildren for you. And this is where I turn around and walk away slowly... ;-)
