Perhaps her definition of upward mobility is the opportunity for already successful people to accumulate wealth. Success is rewarded, no questions asked. EDIT: Oh, the aspects she conveniently care about are social status and the dignity to human labor. I wouldn't call that upward mobility.

  13. Why cry about inflation? It shrinks debt and pressures wealth back into the economy. If you still don't like it, consider that it's been going down pretty steadily for 30 years and that deflation causes economic depression.

  15.  @rrmackay  Sigh. The size of debt is typically measured in a currency. If that currency inflate, that value of the debt decreases. The value of wealth can also be stored in a currency. If that currency inflate, the value of the wealth decreases. So, it puts pressure on the owner of the wealth to invest it in something that grows or at least maintains its value.

  16.  @rrmackay  I never said the debt "measured in currency" shrinks. That's your assumption in order to win an argument you made up in your head. Stock, bonds, commodities, etc. certainly contributes more to the economy than a piggy bank.

  49. This is silly. The last thing that's needed is the president showing up to make a rehearsed speech. What's needed is revised regulation of safety of transport of chemicals, accountability for companies handling them, a less corrupt media apparatus that doesn't withhold or downplay crucial information about an immediate danger to health and environment, etc. I expect Biden to take action to solve these problems, not to perform some symbolic gesture of sympathy.
