Given that the role of government is to protect the citizens natural rights of life, liberty and pursuit of happiness, is it the role of government to stop people from using pot recreationally? Isn't drugs a type of pursuit of happiness? Isn't using drugs for one's own pleasure a liberty that should be protected?

  17. I can relate to the fear of not having a firm point of reference, but it is very strange to call this unnatural. We've known for a long time that everything in nature is relative. The search for a fixed medium to house all matter came to an end once we learned that the speed of light in vacuum is constant relative to all observers. Mass, velocity, momentum and the passage of time is all in the eye of the beholder. You may feel that you're firmly grounded in your chair, but you're also orbiting earth once a day, which orbits the sun once a year, which orbits the center of the galaxy, which fumbles around the Virgo Supercluster, which is ripped apart by dark energy.

  26. Regarding corporations avoiding taxes. I've listened to these people. Their perspective is typically that corporate tax is not so much about redistribution as it is about steering corporations into activities that the government wants to promote. If a corporation pays no tax, they see it as the corporation being rewarded by the government for doing precisely what it is encouraged to do. This way they can view minimization of tax burden not as cheating, but as an honorable duty. To some degree I think their view on taxes is not very different from how the government views taxes.
