  1. It is not pointless. It is called a soft opening. If you want to succeed sometimes it is wise to not just dive into the deep end. You start easy and work any kinks out of your operation. Then when things are going smoothly you ramp up.

  3.  @marcello4258  the importance of chip manufacturing cannot be overstated with Intel. I mean they invented the monolithic integrated circuit. So making chips is what they do. They're also famous for inventing the microprocessor. But before they invented that they invented the whole microelectronic industry. So the importance of Intel cannot be overstated either.

  5.  @Josh-cw8by  that depends what happens at high current draw. If a supply is inadequate to meet the demand you won't be able to maintain the voltage level then and all kinds of bad things are going to happen. When ones turn into zeros at random digital logic breaks down. The only difference between a one and a zero in computers is the voltage level in a gate. Is it high or low? If you can't hit all the highs the notes are going to fall flat. Then the music is over.

  6.  @Josh-cw8by  I realize the PSU is the foundation of a PC. But a lot of folks don't. They're much more focused on the CPU or their video card. How much RAM they have. As long as their PC powers up they figure the PSU is doing its job. Which I would largely agree with. But the hardware in a PC is the final arbiter in the debate. It is some sensitive stuff too. A hiccup billionths of a second long won't go unnoticed in a CPU. To us it is an event that didn't even occur. But it could subtly corrupt data. That's where BSODs come from. One little thing goes out of whack and the show's over. If you stop and think about it then it is amazing computers work at all. So much has to go right.   19. I only ever buy cheap PC cases. To me a case is just a box to hold hardware. It never makes any of my PCs any faster. The last case I bought was an Antec VSK4000E. I needed a full ATX case. It was only $29. So I'm not the best person to ask about designer cases. I will say this though the cheaper you can price it the more you'll sell. If it's cheap enough I might even buy some.

  21. I'm pretty sure the 1 meg resistor in anti-static wrist straps is not there so you do not get an electrostatic shock but rather so you do not electrocute yourself. Working with electricity you never want to be hard grounded. Well, you can be but you really have to know what you're doing then. And no most of you idiots don't know what you're doing. So that's why there's a resistor in wrist straps. To save you from yourself.

  36. My memory benchmarks slower with the XMP profile set on it. So I disabled that feature here. But I'm using some old DDR3 1600 G-Skill Ripjaws. It still surprised me. I expected XMP to be the best performance. Apparently not.

  38.  @johng6673  that's Windows. It is an OS built from the ground up for single tasking. But that's OK. Windows 11 will have a Linux core. Microsoft is not making any money on their OS anyways. Which is why they fired their QC department. Users can find bugs now.

  39. I don't overclock so EZ-Mode is all I need. I am more interested in stability and reliability. That's why you won't find Windows installed on any of my PCs either.

  40. If you want honey go raid a hive. Linux did not get installed on more silicon than anything else by being sickly sweet. Microsoft has the desktop market and that's it. Linux is everywhere from servers to sniper rifles.

  41.  @michaelhoffmann2891  I've been alive more than twice as long as Linux has existed so thee's no chance you've been running Linux for longer than I've been alive. I predate UNIX entirely. Dennis Ritchie did go to my high school though. I grew up next door to Bell Labs so we used to shop in the same grocery store.

  42.  @michaelhoffmann2891  while I was not paying attention Linux did get older than I realized it had. And it seemed like the 25th anniversary was just a little while ago. Sometimes I forget that Linux was around for a couple of years before I started running it myself. I do think Linux has plenty to prove yet. Being as it so far has been an abject failure for its intended purpose. Which always was to be an alternative desktop. It is no closer to achieving that today as the day I started running it. In fact considering the state of xorg lately I'd say it is further. Windows does not run everywhere either. In fact as bad off as Linux is I'd still say Windows is going to disappear sooner than Linux will. Well, Windows will still be around but the NT kernel won't be. Microsoft is moving more towards Linux themselves.

  46. Running Windows software on Linux will kill native Linux software development. I mean why make the effort if you can just kind of sort of run the binary? You'd be surprised how much of a chilling effect things like that can have.

I worked for multinational corporations that had virtually unlimited financial resources. At any moment they were raking in fortunes. So that all colors my judgement today.
