I wonder if this hatch has any less rear legroom than the cramped Corolla hatch. In any case, we can add the Mazda Yaris hatch to the list that already included the Mazda Yaris sedan, Magna Steyr Supra and Subaru 86. #NotMadeByToyota

Richard Favreau Facts matter. Toyota reduced the Corolla sedan's legroom by nearly 5 (FIVE!) inches with this new generation and also cut back on headroom. Form follows function, this is not a cutting edge sports car it is a mainstream family sedan. TNJA - Toyota New Jockey Architecture sacrifices far too much practicality in the pursuit of 'CVT driving excitement' . As regards Micah's stature, his claimed height of 5'10" is normal but his state of physical fitness is far above normal. Middle aged men his height (with the money to buy a new Corolla) will be far less limber and typically weigh 20-40 pounds more than he does. TNGA's lower and more cramped designs will absolutely force people who wanted a fuel efficient sedan into a CUV, SUV or truck and that......... sucks.

Putting aside the car chase for a moment, the film "Bullitt" serves as a terrific time capsule of late 1960's San Francisco and America.
5
Smaller than a hatchback, less full efficient and more expensive so what's not to like?
5
gedaman, It must also be nice to use your toys as a tax write-off which is what many wealthy people can do.
5
Go to the repair shop 5 times as often, is that what you mean?
5
Talk about attention to detail, they even put a spare tire in the show car. My guess is that the 2.0 engine will be rated around 170 HP with 45mpg on the highway.
5
schmo7777, I live in Ontario and as long as I've got snow tires I don't need no stinkin' AWD either, eh.
4
djkenny , Be patient and you will eventually find a low-mileage Matrix or Vibe manual at a good price.
4
First Last, A percentage of the 2.4 engines had an oil consumption issue. I think there was a bad batch of piston rings somewhere along the line. I am sure an online search will reveal which year(s) as the engine was in production for around a decade.
4
The 35-36 mpg Hybrid is the obvious choice.
4
The Hybrid's mpg is not stellar it is STUNNING.
4
The low price of gas is always a major influence on sales of fuel efficient cars but clearly Toyota is pushing forward with this new AWD Prius and the Corolla hybrid due very soon. We can also expect sales of the new RAV4 Hybrid to be very strong as there is a minimal price premium over the regular RAV4.
4
Micah, The raised wagon Venza lived in the USA from 2009-2015* and came back as a luxurious RAV4 Hybrid for 2021. Now it is being discontinued and replaced with a raised wagon, very Venza-like vehicle for 2025. * We had a 2016 Venza in Canada because we actually like wagons whether they are raised or not. 😉
4
@jehadwadi2477 Get the 6 speed manual for your SE.
4
On the surface VW cars appear to offer premium quality but the mechanical components are invariably third rate.
4
Micah barely fits in the backseat, what chance does a normal size person have? The new Corolla wagon has acres of room in the backseat, bring it here!
4
@webcomment8895 You are absolutely and totally correct to point out that the hatch is even more cramped. Now please compare the sedan and hatch to the Corolla wagon as seen on Toyota Ireland's Youtube channel :)
4
Agreed.
4
I won't comment on matters of taste but I think it is a safe bet the Corolla will have better long term reliability.
4
Get the manual.
4
Today is the 12th anniversary of this video.

@keithginyard7696 I see just as many men using their phones while driving. Stupidity is not restricted by gender.
4
This Anti - C-HR needs to offer a V6 just to equal its third generation predecessor.
4
Because the trade deficit with China wasn't high enough already...

To answer your question - $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
3
They dropped the seats by a further inch and lowered the roof line two inches. The days of the thoroughly practical Prius are over as style has once again triumphed over substance.
3
Well, I suppose it was inevitable that if you named enough 'Best Buys' you would eventually get one right. Hybrid ES FTW.
3
Only the Hybrid version has a CVT. The 4 and V6 have 8 Speed auto.
3
You are absolutely correct in your assessment. We had the same old aluminum fishing boat in our family for over 45 years and the Vibe was the first car that did not need a rear suspension upgrade to tow it. In 16 years of ownership I have only done 3 non-scheduled repairs on my 05 Vibe.
3
Hybrid!
3
@disneyfan9099 Fleet sales of 4Runners?
3
@davidrx795 It's almost like buying a low interest bond. I am sure TMC will update it when they are ready not 3 years before they're ready like most other companies.
3
@CatNerfer3000 TMC is probably too busy counting money to waste time on hasty redesigns.
3
@CatNerfer3000 There is an element of compromise in virtually any vehicle purchase but the 4Runner is exponentially more reliable than any of its competitors. I get a little jealous when I see overseas Toyota 4X4s with the manual option and I wish Toyota had not made such a mess of the FJ's ergonomics. The FJ would have been a simpler and cheaper long -term option in our 4x4 market if drivers could actually see out of it.
3
It is stunning how much people will pay for a plastic BMW covered in plastic BMW badges.
3
They don't even sell that combination here in Canada. At a minimum, the 4 cylinder needs a manual so the driver controls the shifting.
3
The next generation of Corolla will certainly address this shortcoming. In the meantime we'll have to make do with the value and unmatched reliability of the current car.
3
We're putting Akio on notice, if he really wants to be considered a genuine enthusiast he has to keep manuals available in mainstream cars like the Corolla!
3
It is worse than that , it is an insult to insults.
3
"Get the manual folks."
3
Omar S, I wonder when the BMW minivan is coming.
3
Omar S, To be clear, I have absolutely nothing against the Ultimate Parenting Machine also known as the minivan, it is BMWs that I object to. A new BMW minivan would certainly be good news for Fiat/Chrylser as they would likely be displaced from the bottom of the reliability rankings by the Bavarian van.

"Ask any robber barons and they will tell you ....." There are certainly no shortage of robber barons around these days to ask. Our '67 Galaxie 500 had the same color interior but it wasn't quite so plush.

Hybrid
3
Why don't you keep your current Avalon for another 230,000 miles? If you have been taking good care of it it will probably last that long.
3
You have condensed a dozen reviews into a couple of sentences. Did you consider getting the manual to up the fun factor?
3
@superbros1690 Al my comments are made with the understanding that readers are taking a sensible approach to their carbon footprint in total.
