Many reasons. Unfortunately, science has become so corrupt that you cannot even hope to get grant money or get anyone to look at your resume unless you have published something big. The governing bodies that decide these things only care about how much they can profit off of your research. It's created an incentive for people to doctor their data, ignore results that don't support their claim, and fosters an environment where everyone's trying to step on each other to further their own careers.

@Jaydee8652 And that's the problem with most science these days. Nepotism and politics are the status quo, not the science itself. Getting any journal to retract a fraudulent paper is an uphill battle because they place their reputation over their integrity. For example, there has been a recent scandal where a whole host of fraudulent papers from India have been uncovered to have fabricated data, it's like the Frederick Shön scandal × 100. Yet all of the reputable journals that published those papers still have them up, they have not retracted a single one despite numerous calls to do so and even the researchers themselves admitting they're bunk (despite of course blaming everyone except themselves). Don't trust any research from India, at least not for the time being.

@MirzaAhmed89 That's why. It's churned out, low effort content, perfect for the lowest common denominator to make themselves feel like they're smart even though they have room temperature IQs.

@PointsofData I hate to tell this to you but if you think it's "good content", that's a bit of a self report.

Welcome to Asia.

That's called "trickle truthing", and it's commonly seen in malignant narcissists like Hwang.

What he did to those women is absolutely disgusting. I'm enraged and sickened, but sadly unsurprised that they were shamed and silenced by their own countrymen for speaking out against the man who violated them.

@elilass8410 Yes, but the women who were forced to risk their reproductive health are truly human.

Why do they look so creepy?

Are you mormon?

I know. As a biologist I think about this often, and I can't help but feel angry. The right has held us back for so long, and I fear they will do far worse in years to come. The world they want is terrifying to me, as a scientist as well as a woman.

Just think, how far could we have advanced by now if not for republicans? We'd have clean energy, cures for painful, debilitating diseases, but no. I'll never understand why the scientifically illiterate are allowed to make unilateral decisions on science.

@lelagrangeeffectphysics4120 No. It really isn't. Hwang walked away with no legal consequences, is still a beloved figure in Korea, and he continued on with his career like nothing ever happened. He literally got away with everything.
