  24. I sometimes wonder if Putin's psychology is such, that he believes that anything that he himself doesn't care about, is a fiction / theatre that he can play both sides of. I hope that he is starting to cross some lines with this belief, lines that come back and have consequence for the stuff he does care about (regime security and magical thinking about his place in world history).

Three comments: - One does wonder what back-channel communications and assessments happen between powers. - You have had guests that have said that Patrushev may well be worse than Putin (e.g. Gustav yesterday). - I completely agree with you that Putin needs to be defeated soundly and taught a hard lesson - that it doesn't pay to invade other countries - a line being drawn as soon as possible.

  46. I have actually had to sit down with friends and look at our western democratic systems, and together bring them to an understanding as to why it is vital to protect them. To try to show them that dictatorships don't have the machinery that allows the people to have a say in anything. And these are intelligent people. And I have left wing friends who imagine dictatorship as a way out of the climate crisis - a strong man to stop us burning carbon. The fantasies abound. I am also so incredibly frustrated by all of this.
