Beautiful music to accompany the Linnets. Loved the Goose Feet plants nourishing the soil and the nettle seeds too - must try that. The Duck cadets looked so cool. You are not a nightmare ! The boat is your home. It's ok to watch out for it :) thanks again Vanessa for a lovely end to the week. w :virtualhug:🥰:chillwcat: (three wild kittens turned up on our back deck asking for food....)

Wonderful poem - 'Like an ink colored ghost' is a beautiful image. I love cormorants - so impressive with their flappy feet. And the goosanders are very striking. It was fun to see you on the same steam train that i took and to see Haworth again (visited in 2023). A bit grim, but the number of tourists makes for thriving businesses. Did you get a chance to visit the Bronte museum in the old parsonage? Thanks as always for a lovely vlog Vanessa. Take care until next week and stay safe! w xx

What a glorious vlog!! The poem at the end was delicious and atmospheric and really caught the feeling of autumn. The Green Elf Cups have a glorious color and the coral slime so delicate, feeding insects(how do you know so much?). The story of Nicolas Brome is fascinating and its touching to hear of the remorse he expressed for the rest of his life. I was waiting bated breath to hear the outcome of your deliberations on whether it was worth continuing to cruise and much relieved to know you would!! Thanks again for all you give to us each week Vanessa...happy trails for the week ahead. ❤

Vanessa the narrow-boat warrior battles thru the raging waters and keeps her Nan and doggies safe! Love the poem and seeing your Nan. Good luck to Jason who sounds like a lovely guy. Safe travels in the week ahead. xx
2
I've run out of superlatives! thanks again for the beauty, peace, interesting tidbits, novelty and the deep connection with the natural world. Go well and happy journeys onward! xxx
2
Vanessa- Winter's Masterpiece is a terrific poem - evocative and engaging. I so enjoyed the way you gave Winter a persona. I've seen real icebreakers on the St Laurence River here in Canada and the swans are no less impressive! The Fairy Art is magnificent. I love that he caught a glimpse of a fairy on his camera. Thanks as always for bringing us so much interest, enjoyment and beauty every week. Keep safe in the week ahead in the Arctic freeze...W xxx

Good on your for keeping up the videoing even in the midst of engine alarm. Loved the cheerful robin song. Hope the repairs go well and you can keep on chugging! xxx

What a rich and fascinating vlog Vanessa. The Piece Hall is a gorgeous piece of architecture from the pre-industrial era when handloom weavers were independent, before they became tied to the 'dark satanic' industrial looms working long days in dangerous circumstances. It was a joy to watch Freckles eating his full! Is it hard to imagine that today's government would show such concern for the bird population? I love the metaphor of 'filling the river's throat', so evocative and speaks to the river as a living being. Eat your full of Parkin and happy journeys in the week ahead. All the best, w xxx

Thankyou Vanessa for taking us on another adventure into the worlds of birds and insects, reminding us the world is full of beauty and simple joys. I must have missed something. I am wondering if India is your daughter? Keep well, xo:yougotthis:
1
@themindfulnarrowboat thanks Vanessa...Glad to hear you have visits from India! take good care xxx
1
@themindfulnarrowboat yes it is a good way to make reparation for the past...
1
hi Vanessa. Glad you had a good visit with your family....the Foxton Locks area is fascinating. I so enjoyed the chatting :) The herons in the field were spectacular and so heart warming to see the little Wren in her nest. It was good to hear from Zephyr who is usually your silent partner! take good care til next Friday. xxx

Loved the mandarin duck with his lovely head plumes making a show of himself! Very attractive no doubt to a prospective mate. It was amazing to see Lyme Park where some of the BBC Pride and Prejudice was shot. A fantastic series with gifted actors. Each summer and fall we have to remove ticks almost daily from our cat Lucky who is always crouching in the grasses and woodland areas where ticks abound. Zephyr was so patient- under her ears would be a favorite place for ticks to latch on. Thanks again Vanessa for yet another beautiful vlog and peaceful ending to the week. Happy trails. w xxx
1
@themindfulnarrowboat our cat Lucky has learned to be patient and we are also more skilled at quick removal of ticks! cheers w
1
wow indeed. While I can't pretend to understand the technicalities, just the fact of having a pilot (lovely and calm) and encountering all these various tidal pulls, waves and winds was thrilling. You were so cool on the walkie talkie - not posh at all :) You certainly deserved the whole packet of digestives! Loved the poem. Safe journeys in the week ahead Vanessa. w xx
1
hi Vanessa...really enjoyed this vlog and seeing you with India. You do a great service to the insect world by bringing them to your screen and appreciating them, not to mention your wonderful drawings! I am reading the The Social Lives of Animals: How Co-operation Conquered the Natural World by Ashley Ward an animal behaviorist...much of the first part looks at Ants, Termites, Bees, Cockroaches etc so I learned so much from it and gained a lot of respect for them too. When I read the Vlog title I immediately thought something had happened to Zephyr so I was relieved to see her lovely face. Wishing you a good transition to the colors and scents of autumn :) take good care W

Oh dear Vanessa, telling fibs to the dentist!! i am guessing we all do that at some time or another :) I love the mug. Hope you don't break it. The trolley bus museum is wonderful. I love when regular folk devote themselves to preserving parts of history that would be forgotten. Wonder why the trolley bus was withdrawn from service? So enjoyable to listen to the different sounds of rain. Thanks for another lovely vlog. Happy trails in the week ahead dear V. w xx
1
@themindfulnarrowboat thanks Vanessa...whe you get round to it!
1
Hi Vanessa. What a fun video! Seeing you all grappling so mindfully with ropes, trolleys and pelting rain while Zephyr takes a hike on her own. The poem makes me laugh and I am inspired by the nuthatch song, the Wagtails antics and the butterflies grace. Hope today is smooth sailing! Keep them coming. A highlight of the week :) warm greetings, wendy

Thanks for the reminder to see things from a different angle. I am glad that serendipity and your knowledge of Cormorants led you to see a Golden Eye duck! I so much enjoyed the winter scenes and the poem evoking the experience of winter's snap, sparkle and magic. Here in southern Quebec we've had heavy wet snow falls coating the trees with snow wool and bringing down many big branches. It is lovely in the sunshine. Thanks again for offering 20 minutes of magic, peace and joyfulness at the end of the week. Keep well Vanessa! w xx ps. wow, your viewing numbers are through the roof!
1
Dear Vanessa I hope you and Mr M had a good farewell with India. Quite the visit from a lovely Kingfisher with those extraordinary colors and the wasp ball on a leaf is wonderful. The first winter snow is magical isn't it. I hope you enjoy the snow to come in the Pennines and avoid alien abduction! happy trails and keep safe and warm, w xx
1
What a great mystery story. Inspector Dawzefyr solves the case! Did she beak with the geese? Underfeather agents perhaps? You have outdone yourself this week, and that is saying something! Enjoy the week ahead and wishing you more whimsical adventures. Take care, W xxx
1
@themindfulnarrowboat yes I think we do :) Perhaps there can be another mystery for Insp. Dawzephyr in the future! xxxx
1
Dear Vanessa...i am very sorry for the death of your beloved friend. From the photo, Francesca looks like a lovely person and maybe that gorgeous sunset was in some way a message to you. Your poem was perfect capturing the feeling of the ethereal thistle seed looking for a place to land and sow. take good care of your precious self. hugs, w xxx

@themindfulnarrowboat 😍

Glorious winds, rain, lapwings and Jack Daws. How wonderful to think that these Jack Daws are the descendants of the ones that Tunnicliffe saw. The different sorts of locks, swing bridges and bridges is so interesting. Glad you and Zephyr missed the falling tree. Thanks for another lovely vlog Vanessa. Safe journeys :)😍
1
Loved the waterways at the start of the vlog. One of the most beautiful I've seen on your channel. Happy Weekend Vanessa, Zephyr and Mr M! xxx
1
another wonderful vlog Vanessa. Always brings me joy. Go well and have a wonder-filled week. Wendy xx PS. spent an enjoyable time this morning with a Daddy Long Legs (not sure what they are called in the UK)
1
Wowie! Great dramatic episode. Well done you and Mr M for navigating rushing waters and a big storm! The Springtail is adorable indeed...Just a little suggestion, that you order some crampons to attach to your boots for these icey days. Cheap and life saving gear! take good care and safe travels this week Vanessa. xxx
1
What a nail biting episode! You showed your grit in getting through these locks. Well done. The little Robin made my day. Loved the whimsical poem you wrote. Take care Vanessa and see you next time. Happy Trails. w xxxx
1
The butterfly with yellow tipped wings is so beautiful...even GORGEeous! What a great job you did backing into that lock...wish I could be as proficient with my car:) You placed dear Oscar's memorial plaque with the forget- me-nots in a little field of daffodils..perhaps as Wordsworth says Oscar is now dancing with them: (I Wandered Lonely As A Cloud) For oft when on my couch I lie In vacant or in pensive mood, They flash upon that inward eye Which is the bliss of solitude, And then my heart with pleasure fills, And dances with the Daffodils. Happy trails and adventures in the week ahead. w xx

Interesting info about the bioveg oil problems. Is it just a red tape problem that can be tweaked by amending the Act? I loved the poem and feel sad that the magnificent pheasant lives such a short life. Why can't humans leave other creatures in peace? Hope the engine continues to function. Take good care Vanessa and Happy Trails this week. xxx
1
Another enjoyable vlog. So loved the little birds, hazel flower and Granulated beetle. It's unseasonably warm here in southern Quebec and beetles are rousing themselves in our house. The story of the flint is fascinating...what a huge effort it involved! I wish you a good week of adventures to offer us on the next vlog! Take care Vanessa xxx
1
So glad you found one trace of Edith Holden at last! I was in awe of the view from the lock at 6.10 minutes in. Loved the tree hopper and grey wagtail - so delightful. Packwood house looks very worth a visit. So soon for daffodils to be up - warming climate bringing them on? Have a wonderful wintry week Vanessa. Take care xx Wendy
1
Didn't understand the joke to begin with! The videos of the tern are entrancing ...such an elegant flier despite long wing span to body size: ''A twisting, tumbling agile tern'' indeed. A lovely poem. I do hope you are faring better with the heat. Have a great weekend Vanessa :) xx
1
Great poem: rocks in blenders indeed. You survived a canal that's in need of some real care and braved the difficulties. Brava! The giant redwoods are so inspiring. Thanks as always for a lovely end to the week. Take care and happy trails til next time Vanessa. Hugs, w
1
A lovely vlog today Vanessa - a truly mindful walk through the woods. The Wollemia Nobilis looks like one of those ancient trees that have been around for a very long time. I loved the simple beauty of the moth you drew and the ducklings and mothers reminded me of happy times counting ducklings at the local pond near where I lived. Did you know that Star of Bethlehem is one of the five flower remedies that make up Doctor Bach's Rescue Remedy (since the 1930's)? Its use is for shock and trauma. A wonderful find. Take care and happy travels in the week ahead. w xx
1
@themindfulnarrowboat Hi Vanessa. Flower Essences are not made with the physical material of the flower so there is no risk of toxicity. They are energetic remedies. Not homeopathic but in that general field. I believe the first time Dr Bach used Rescue Remedy was on a sailor who had washed up on shore unconscious. He was revived with the remedy. I have seen it do wonders for birds who bang into windows, adults and children with shock and upset, cats being taken to the vet and so on.

I loved the poem! very whimsical. It was fascinating to see how the mill operates and I wonder if your scone is whole wheat? I imagine it must be tasty made from freshly milled flour. Pineapple weed- will look out for it! Thanks as ever for the shots of butterflies and bugs and a thoughtful 27 minutes of enjoyment. Take care Vanessa and happy trails this week. w
1
Swallows and Amazons forever and Vanessa, Zephyr and Mr M too! How lovely to float on a lake and lollygag the afternoon away. I love your wellies and Zehyr's grubby nose. Yes, i hope you will anchor once more in a yet to be discovered pond. take care and happy trails in the week ahead. W xxx
1
ps. Enjoying your calendar alot. Do you think you will make another one for 2024?
1
I can only echo Vanessa's words.❤❤❤
1
Vanessa- this must be one of your most beautiful vlogs. The landscape is stunning bathed in the early morning light under the blue sky. You must cruise more at this time of day! I loved the name Mr Swindles, owner of the old mill. A very Dickensian name for a Victorian business man! Are those blue cornflowers on the front of you boat? So much to love- the goslings, the red valerian on the bridge, the Green Veined White Butterfly, the Ermine Moth, and Zephyr's face when you squeezed her new ball! Thankyou thankyou. A lovely end to the week. Take good care and happy trails til next week. W xxxx

@themindfulnarrowboat 🥰🥰🥰

thanks for this inspirational vlog: you left the nature preserve so much more loved than when you found it. I always think that those who litter in nature are really cut off from themselves as well as from the earth which nourishes us. It is a very sad state of alienation. I loved all the shots of Zephyr's wise, quizzical, endearing face with her special nose! No doubt a big help during the litter hunt :) Good luck with the refitting of Alice Grace and hope you find a speedy boat shop to do the work! Take care and happy trails. W xxx
1
A beautiful offering this week! Your pigeon romance touched me greatly as did the bravery of White Vision. Hopefully you will be able to capture a cuckoo photo soon, although listening to them is lovely! take care and happy trails, w xxx
1
We all make mistakes! What a strange world it would be without them. I always find it ironic that the species that does the most damage to the earth i.e. humans, considers other species to be pests! Surely a case of the pot calling the kettle black. Thanks as always for another interesting and fresh video. Loved seeing the badgers on the night cam and hearing the Cuckoos. It's a long way to migrate for only 15% of the year:). Take care Vanessa and hope you see India again soon :) xxxx
1
How awesome to see the Gull tap dancing on the grass ! Intentional action showing foresight and reasoning. Chester looks definitely worth a visit. Glad you and Alice Grace are now seaworthy! So important for a sailor 😏 Safe travels in the week ahead and as always looking forward to the next wonderful vlog. take care, w
1
We've had lots of rain last week too...pouring down. Perhaps a friendly word of 'warning' might have been more appropriate than a complaint, or even asking why you had moored there at night...Oh the lovely water birds with their little ones, how beautiful. Your poem this week is really special. The ' Nimbostratus Elephants' !! Happy Trails this week Vanessa and take care. W xxx
1
Grateful as always for your weekly offering of beauty, history, poetry and connections with our fellow creatures. The sculpture of the salt worker is magnificent and the Droitwich canal is really a treat. The ceramic work in the church was truly a work of devotion. I loved the Corbeau drawing. We are lucky to have three crows visiting us all year round and to hear their calls. Thanks so much Vanessa for this week. Take care and safe journeys Vanessa. Wendy xxx
