The US and Russia were the only two countries that could get all the resources from within their own borders. The US advantage was it climate allowed a year round growing season unlike cold Russia with a short summer growing season.

At that stage of the war Russia was on a unstoppable dash to Berlin and Hitler's bunker. D-Day was to make sure Russia did not take all of Germany and maybe enter into France to liberate it. Once Stalin liberates a country he does not leave.

All that would have changed is Moscow would have fell not the Russians losing the war . The Japanese did not have the manpower of resources to invade Russia but they could by just a threat made the Russians keep their soldiers at that border.

If Russia could be trusted not to invade Europe any further than their east Poland Germany and Britain would just be in a stalemate forever. Britain could never do a D-Day landing on their own and Germany could never land in Britain.
