They asked the victims to join a Mathletes study group with them. The victims declined. The underprivileged youngsters stole the backpack purely for academic reasons. Temple will award them scholarships.

  25. Judge Zachary Shaffer continued the aggravated assault trial six times in the past two years at the request of the defense lawyer “for further investigation.” The assault is on video. It doesn’t take two years to investigate a 2 minute video.

  34. I lived down there in the late 1990’s. My neighbor asked me to buy cigs for her once at that Wawa. A bum held the door for me and asked me for change. I knew I had some dimes and nickels in one pocket. I accidentally reached into my other pocket which only had 3 pennies and gave them to the guy. After I bought the cigs, the same bum opened the door for me again on my way out and again asked me for change. My neighbor intervened. She yelled for me not to give him anything. She explained that she had seen the guy had thrown the pennies onto the ground after I had entered the store. Apparently she had gotten into it with him while I was inside. He said to her, “I said I was sorry!” LOL.

  44. Rebekah is right. I was carjacked last year in Overbrook Park. I called 911. Police found 4 teenagers in my car in North Philly a few days later about to carjack someone else. Took my car to the car wash, threw out the Cheetos and rolling papers they left in my car, and my insurance company covered the scratches on my car. Krasner sent me subpoenas for court but they pleaded out. It’s easy to sit at our keyboards and say I should have shot them, etc. Truth is I had a pen knife and Mace in my coat pocket. However, they bum rushed me and caught me off guard, which was my mistake. I didn’t remember even having the Mace and knife on me. It happened so fast. The biggest injury was to my pride and ego. Could have been worse.

  47. City-permit block parties are supposed to end by 10 pm, I think. The organizers usually park vehicles at each end of the block to close it off, along with a rope across the street. Obviously, any barriers had been removed already or else the shooters wouldn’t have been able to have driven down the block.

The fact that the reporter casually mentioned that the gun may have been for “protection” just confirms how so many walk around with guns “for protection.” I also think it’s premature for the reporter to presume that the “victims” were saints. It’s true that it’s illegal to be a vigilante and ambush people. However, I’d like to wait to hear more investigation before I form my conclusions.

  49. The dads are incarcerated so the public is subsidizing them. These juveniles know right from wrong. Excusing their criminal activity is pandering and offensive. You cannot demand equal and civil rights for blacks on one hand and then excuse and explain away their misconduct on the other hand.
