  3. I am not a political analyst but if I can offer my 2 cents, I think the Shinde CM move has a lot more at stake. I think the BJP has broader goals here. 1) Shinde will takeover the Shiv Sena. It will be difficult for Uddhav to retain the party. It's a ploy to end the Thackeray raj. 2) It is folly to think that BJP will END the Shiv Sena. It is logical that Shinde must have struck some kind of "Non-aggression pact" with the BJP. Shinde is NO FOOL. 3) The jewel aka BMC is now the BJP's. It is likely that the BJP will get the Mayoral position in BMC. Shinde controls Thane and has the CM's chair. Bombay is the last remaining bastion of Uddhav which will now be very hard for him to retain. 4) I cannot say if Shinde will eventually merge Shiv Sena with BJP but even if that does not happen, BJP will have enough strength to install its CM any time it wants.

  17. I really liked reading your column on this topic. It is not just elitism. It is pure narcissism. It is their "white man's burden". I think there is no secret to Narendra Modi's success and it is a case of the pigeon closing its eyes on the part of his detractors. Today, most of India is well educated (which was once upon a time a luxury). Most BJP voters are well-educated individuals too. Mocking Modi voters is in no way going to help INC. Modi won't lose unless some of his 36% change camp and that won't happen unless his detractors stop mocking his voters.

The problem with this "plan" is that a lot has changed since 2004. INC had a much larger catchment area back then. Even in its 1999 defeat, it had a higher vote share than of the BJP. In today's reality, the BJP has a much larger and growing base, while INC has become EXTINCT in Gujarat, Telangana, AP, WB, and UP. It is also an endangered species in NE, Bihar, and Maha.

BJP will make it viral no matter where and by whom 0) "North vs South" is another bad idea along the same lines as "Chowkidar Chor hai". 1) Return to "normal" politics. The wannabe Alphas -> KCR, Baghel, and Gehlot have been brought to the ground. No "neta" is a god to the voter. Freebies are a shortcut to power when you are in the opposition but not a strategy for retention. There is no substitute for visible development. 2) "Congress mukt Bharat" is not going to happen. It was a BJP slogan but a task for the Congress. The UPA 2 anger against INC is over. 3) This was a local leader election. Modi and Rahul were making guest appearances, but the main stars were Shivraj, Raman Singh, Revnath, and Raje. 4) Congress needs clarity. The Caste census, soft Hindutva, and Mohabbat ki dukaan are gimmicks and not sound tactics. Laughing at "Vishwaguru" is akin to spitting at the sky. Modi presents a vision, but Congress only presents Rahul, who is INCOMPETENT. The "panauti" jibe was a peek into how easily Rahul gets unnerved. What works for Modi does not work for Rahul. He remains a big reason for BJP's victory. 5) It might be a sweep but 2024 is far from a done deal. BJP is not error-free. Telangana was a blunder. However, the BJP is very agile. They learn their lessons and quickly correct them. Karnataka defeat was a blessing in disguise.
