The 14th Amendment does not require criminal prosecution. It was written after the Civil War to prevent insurrectionists from running for office. There were no trials back then. The Congressional Jan 6 report charged Trump with insurrection as did the Colorado court. He had no business "protesting" that day. He lost the election. His aids testified Trump was fully aware he had lost the election. The only purpose of that "protest" was to overturn a valid election.
1
Trump incited the whole thing. "Be there, it will be wild".
1
@tjrich9349 What was Trump talking about when he told his acting Attorney General "Just say the election was corrupt and leave the rest to me and the Republican congressmen"? Nonsense? Really?
1
McCarthy released the tapes months ago. All they were were cherry picked nonsense.
1
if J6 prisoners are still behind bars it means they were likely convicted of felonies
1
I didn't see any evidence of wandering on the capital steps.
1
140 cops were injured that day. Some were unable to work afterwards. @robertsmith4681
1
@leevy6753 The capital riot was instigated by Trump to try to steal the election. What other reason could there be?
1
The mob was breaking into the Senate chamber. What would you expect? Did you think the cops were going to let them take hostages?
1
What set this up was Trump inviting a mob to the capital to interfere with the election certification process. He had no business "protesting" an election. His own former attorneys last week said he was fully aware he had lost the election.
1
@Archangel2931 Trump was the "fed" who set it up. "Be there. It will be wild". Why he set it up is the question.
1
@nataliewalton5118 Now listen to the progression of events. 1) Trump called in the mob with "Be there, it will be wild" 2) Trump's lawyers (Sidney Powel, Rudy Giuliani, etc) , last week revealed Trump was fully aware he had lost the election. Repeat. He was fully aware he lost the election. He told Mark Meadows (his Chief of Staff) to keep quiet about the results because he said he was embarrassed. 3) He called the event a "protest" even though there was nothing to protest. 4) He intended to have Mike Pence declare the election void and "send it to the states", but Pence wouldn't play along. The whole scheme was invented to sooth his ego. He's a very sick man.
1
impeachment isn't removal, so sit back down.
1
it was an attempt to change an outcome of an election. What else would you call it?
1
@scottgriffiths2753 The news media called them "mostly" peaceful, which was true. 90% didn't take part. The Vice President has no power to raise bail. That's the DOJ.
1
But explain to me how these new videos manage to delete the portions that show the mass mayhem that took place on the capital steps. This would require a change in the laws of physics, wouldn't it? It would be like someone saying they disproved the sinking of the Titanic by showing photographs of the rear of the ship. They could release a thousand videos, for whatever reason, but it does not take away from what happened on the steps. Are you people really THAT gullible to fall for that ploy?
1
@MrOfcourseitsme The really, really ignorant public would believe releasing cherry picked videos somehow reverses the laws of physics. Nothing can take away what happened on the capital steps. We all saw it.
1
The tapes don't show anything. The riot took place in front of the building.
1
@scallen3841 The narrative is Republicans being drawn into Trump's plan to save face and remain in power. Why else were they there? His lawyers revealed last week Trump was fully aware of the fact he had lost the election. IT WAS NO PROTEST. I'm sure we'll learn the details when his former co-conspirators testify against him in court.
1
@scallen3841 Did the video somehow erase what I saw on TV? Wouldn't that require some kind of change in the laws of physics? That's as dumb as saying the videos proved the Hindenburg didn't crash. Come on. Are Republicans really that gullible?
1
@davidbowers1797 The president is Commander in Chief. All he had to do is give the order.
1
You mean the cherry picked "peaceful" parts? It's BS.
1
The gates were going to be knocked down. The police were outnumbered 1,000 to 1. What did you think they could do?
1
That is why it is not a good idea to join an illegal mob and storm the Senate chamber while the Senate is in session. Cops don't practice this.
1
Over a thousand were convicted of provable crimes. "10's of thousands" likely was pretty close.
1
@Satch_4_Hogs Trump came close. He wanted Pence to "move the election to the states". There's nothing in the Constitution allowing that. Pence didn't want to go down in history as another Benedict Arnold so he refused. You have to ask yourself why Trump had all those people invading the capital while they were tabulating electoral votes. It wasn't a protest. Trump knew he had lost the election. Mark Meadows will testify to that at the trial.
1
You aren't informed at all are you. You have to look into why Trump tried to disrupt the election process. His 'fake elector' scam was his Plan B. Hopefully, they will get to the bottom of this and put that man in prison. @Satch_4_Hogs
1
So why did Trump invite those people to "protest"? "Be there. It will be wild". How did he know it was going to be wild if he didn't plan it? His lawyers, Sidney Powell and Rudy Giuliani revealed last week Trump was fully aware he had lost the election. If not a takeover of the government, what was the purpose? Why did he tell Pence he was "too honest" for not playing along with the plan?
1
MJG sometimes slips up and actually tells the truth.
1
@Seasniffer1969 It's easier to get a conviction with trespassing. Saves taxpayer money.
1
@7thswansong152 It will be shown next month.
1
@7thswansong152 There will be televised hearings coming up in the near future.
1
@DeepThinkersClub Why the President of the United States is addressing a mob wearing riot gear is worth investigating. Who paid for the fancy stage? Taxpayers?
1
@kamrank575 It's impossible to prove intent. The arrested will be told to plead ignorance.
1
@wayneparker3498 It's not difficult to make insurrectionists look bad. It's treason.
1
@larryhutton8776 The building was closed.
1
@randychristensen7173 31 million dollars damage and five deaths are not petty crimes.
1
Bocephus W Trump didn't let the National Guard stay in a motel for free.
1
@DeepThinkersClub I don't hate Trump because he is Right. I hate him because he is Trump, the scam artist. Just look into his background. One scam after another.
1
@DeepThinkersClub And how did he sell us out?
1
The vast majority of them pleaded guilty.
1
Yes, I'm sure the judges and prosecutors are going to be treated very roughly - FOR DOING THEIR JOBS. If wondering why Trump is still walking free. He planned it.
1
@garymanis6305 Are you listing every conspiracy theory out there? What about the hundreds of rioters convicted of attacking the police?
1
The Boston Tea Party was an insurrection. What is your point?
1
But, they were charged.
1
How about investigating the Republican Party for refusing to join the committee? Why are they so afraid of Trump that they didn't partake in a civic duty?
1
@akapotato They aren't going to impeach Bide, not without evidence. It will fall flat. That's why they haven't acted.
1
@bertgrau3934 News for you - Independents are better than Republicans. They vote with Democrats because the Democratic Party is the only party interested in governing. The GOP is a circus.
1
The crime rate started rising last year.
1
They had a ton of evidence against Trump. This Biden inquiry is more of a fishing trip than anything else. So far, after working on it for 5 months, they have Biden receiving money as repayment of a car loan.
