  4. Russia tried to form an anti-German coalition with France and Great Britain but were continually rebuffed. Indeed Great Britain and France helped create fascism in the first place to destroy communism, which they feared more. This led the Russians in the end to form an alliance with Germany in the hope that Russia wouldn't be attacked and to create a buffer zone.
