@Junksaint Outside of direct violence what option is there? It is pretty clear that we even have members of the supreme court that are perfectly going with ending democracy and welcome right wing authoritarianism. Even in New York city the judge would not throw Trump in jail for repeated violations of the gag order. Anyone else would have been in Jail.

I think you need to accept that the justice system is dead in the USA. The USA is just as much of an oligarchy at this point as Russia is. Good luck

@Hi-cm1cj this channel made a video on Biden pardoning his son being wrong. Most liberals said it was wrong. Don't say that it was ignored.

@kadyrbekalibekov1941 one of the key points of justice is doing the right thing when it is hard. Very clearly this has shown that justice is not available through the court system.
69
It won't matter. Even if you win it won't matter. You won't be able to enforce it because the exective branch will just refuse to enforce it.
65
@_somerandomguyontheinternet_ that doesn't matter. It would have at least FORCED the supreme court to rule that Trump is above the law. It would have forced them to be on the record for saying that it doesn't matter what felonies Trump committed that he was above the law.
61
@SioxerNikita part of the reason that the federal government stopped trying people for marijuana crimes in Colorado and other states was because of jury nullification. Fairly often the juries would just find the person not guilty regardless of the evidence because the laws are seen to be unjust. I don't see any way the constitution is going to be changed for this.
41
I can't imagine the law actually matters. The supreme court is going to allow him to do whatever he wants. When it comes down to it nobody actualy has the power to stop him.
36
TurtleChad1 I agree that it was not good but I also don't think that any other options are left. These companies have managed to rig the laws in their favor to make what they are doing legal. They are responsible for MILLIONS of deaths that they PROFIT from. Since the justice system does not provide any justice the expected outcome is for people to seek justice on their own.
31
We have the best government that money can buy.
29
@aaroncousins4750 Using a SWAT team should be illegal in a situation like that. It makes you think that maybe your house should have defenses to protect you against the police and walls and doors that are FAR more durable.
21
It sounds to me like the cops involved should have been charged with murder and put in jail. Actually, we need laws to strongly curtail the use of police violence. It should be illegal to escalate a situation beyond the minimum force required. Using a SWAT team without evidence of violence is WAY over the line. A police officer should not be allowed to even unholster their gun unless the situation calls for deadly force. So long as the person is not presenting an imminent threat to yourself or others there is no justification for that. If an officer pulls out their gun that immediately escalates the situation to deadly force and you should be allowed to use any method at your disposal to kill them first if you can. At that point they stop being police in my eyes and are just armed thugs.
15
Fallout is less dystopian than this .... if you played fallout 76 and looked through all the stories and protests that happened you would see people actually tried to stop things.
13
Glad I left.
11
@Peter-bk4pz some of the rich people in your area are more directly responsible. They bragged about not paying taxes and defunding the fire department and forestry management. They also built homes inside fire adapted lands which also allowed the fire to spread further.
9
@SioxerNikita it turns out that while legislators and regulators don't want to hold them accountable there are citizens that do want to hold them accountable. There have been pushes for law changes for a long time and politicians stop it every time. They even overturn when voters force through laws.
5
It is a coup. There are not many options left at this point. Best of luck.
5
@mauricelee77 he did the crimes, he is guilty, he should get the punishment that goes with that. He should be in prison and the supreme court would then have to deal with it.
4
@kadyrbekalibekov1941 this is going to increase vigilantes. This has shown more people that justice is impossible through the court system. It undermines the rule of law and that is not a good path.
4
It is pretty obvious that if you are rich or powerful enough laws just don't apply to you. You can even try to overthrow the country and there will still be no penalty. Maybe we should just write into the law that if you have more than X billions of dollars the other laws just don't apply to you anymore. At least it would be more honest. Realistically, I expect more vigilante justice to be server to the rich and powerful. They have eliminated lawful avenues of justice and so I expect more unlawful ones to be used.
4
@ericwiederhold9141 pardoning hunter was wrong and most people said that when Biden did it.
4
@thejohnjohn2460 the majority of Americans did not vote for Trump. A majority of the people that voted did. Not the same thing. Also popularity should not shield you from the law.
4
@Junksaint I just don't see a viable path for fixing it. Everytime I go back to visit the USA people seem more on edge and angry.
3
@SioxerNikita the justice system could hold the people that run these companies responsible for the deaths they cause and then this would not happen. This is the expected outcome of a justice that leaves no other way for people to get justice.
3
This one didn't need reasoning. A future one won't need reasoning either. They will just make something up. You have to accept that the supreme court does not decide the law. They are a political organization and they decide based on their politics and then try to find a way to justify it. The USA is also the ONLY first world country where people even know the members of their supreme court. The others are larger with far more restricted powers and members that change more often to ensure that the appointments don't become a political mess.
2
@iantaakalla8180 The problem is that even if it is right for the next supreme court to change all of these rulings and even though it will make the lives of most people much better it will ALSO further erode any legitimacy the court has left. We really need to reform the entire supreme court to be more like other first world countries. Most other countries have much larger courts and better methods of selecting judges along with mandatory retirement ages so that the court is much harder to make political.
2
@Bill_the_curious I did not suggest disrupting a trial. I just seems that the judge is corrupt and so is the supreme court and I don't see a way to fix it.
2
Even the Taliban seems a little less extreme than this .... and that is NOT good. If these people got their way it would be the destruction of the company. Companies would leave just to be able to get qualified people and the USA would have a HUGE brain drain to the EU.
2
And now they are trying to impeach the judge that tried to stop this and bring him on up charges for interfering with the president. Honestly, I don't feel safe visiting the USA anymore.
2
It is a coup. You just have to accept that. The odds of their being free elections again is quite low. If people want their government back they will have to take it back.
2
We don't have police. We have armed thugs. After spending time in other countries it seems clear we have some of the worst police in the world with extremely poor training.
2
Given how neatly a lot of these things connect together it really seems like Clarence Thomas and Eileen Cannon are working together. We already know that Clarence Thomas is corrupt and for sale so collusion doesn't seem out of place for him. We definitely have the best justice system that money can buy.
2
@bretcameron9116 Don't worry that will probably end soon.
1
@akosbarati2239 we can't. Republicans won't agree to do it
1
What tier of lawyer is below F tier? I think Trump's lawyer needs to go in that tier.
1
That was a really sad statement you made about not calling the police because they can and do kill people for extremely min offences. Something that happens almost never in other developed country and extremely sad. In Germany I can safely call the police and not worry that they are going to show up shooting. I don't know what the solution is but I know it needs to be solved because as it stands right now I don't see law enforcement I see thugs with guns that represent a very real escalation to a life and death situation anytime they are involved.
1
It doesn't matter what legal argument you use because this isn't based on legal arguments. The court is a partisan political body. They make decisions based on politics not based on the law. They will find a way to create the outcome they want regardless of any argument you come up with.
1
Clearly we have the best judicial system that money can and has bought. It is also clear the we have judges that are just plainly corrupt. If Trump is elected he will just use his powers to drop the case against him. This judge is corrupt but she has enabled him to just get away with the crime. I am wondering if we should even recognize court decisions at all anymore.
1
It seems the legal system is clearly corrupt. It looks like we even have supreme court justices that are in favor of Trump and doing everything they can to delay any accountability. It is also pretty clear that a fairly large percentage of the country don't care about rights or voting. They want their ideas pushed as law and imposed on other people. Honestly, I think that states should just start ignoring the supreme court.
1
@osmosisjones4912 I don't think it is a conspiracy. I think it is because justice for the ultra wealthy and powerful is always different than a normal person it is just that it matters more in this case. It seems pretty clear the supreme court is partisan. They make decisions on partisan grounds and they have no actual method of enforcement so I think states should just start ignoring them.
1
I still find it crazy that regulating women's access to healthcare is even a power the government can have much less should have.
1
@DrFinesse212 effectively the same thing unfortunately.
1
Lets be honest. The supreme court stopped caring about democracy a while ago. They are protecting Trump and fully onboard with the country becoming fascist. It is pretty clear any kind of rule of law has failed.
1
The conclusion I have come to is that judges are partisan all the way up to the supreme court. It also seems like they are corrupt and take bribes from billionaires. Clearly we need some kind of major cleaning because I have no faith in the legal system at all. I think she will find a way to let him off no matter what the evidence is.
1
They are just going to end up with a martyr and copycats.
1
Just accept that the supreme court is a partisan political body and it should be treated that way. I came to Germany for a PhD and I thought I would be coming back to the USA but that is not going to happen anymore. I start a job here soon and I am not coming back. It seems pretty clear the republicans want to have a theocracy and the courts will help them. I don't think it should even be legal for the government to control abortions beyond making sure they have the same safety standards as any other medical procedure and that should be under the control of the FDA.
1
@SharienGaming it certaintly rhymes with the last time a white supremacist fascist was elected. They even use the same gesturues.
1
Shopping for judges like this should really be illegal.
1
At this point it looks like the coup already happened. That conservative think tank said it would be a bloodless coup if the left allowed it and it looks like they meant it. Best of luck you are going to need it.
1
I don't think they have to worry about losing credibility anymore. I don't think they have any left. It is a corrupt group and they all fight to prevent any kind of ethics standards.
