How often young folk want to belong to a group, whether it is by wearing certain type of clothes or listening to certain music. Many youngester are afraid to discover new things, because of what others might think.
I had the same, had friends who was commenting on my clothes, they weren't the right brand and style....same with music, classical was a no-go, jazz and everything which wasn't mainstream. It affects the choices many of us make. Eventually I did not care anymore and thought it is their loss not wanting to explore other music (and lots of other things), but it took a while.
Now years later when I see youngsters choosing their own way and nit caring what the masses think or expect, I think "good for you, you have my blessing".
When I see and hear this girl I think the same, she is brave to pursue and make music she likes, not copy what is most popular and which easily accepted by her peers. We need more young people like her!

Rick Wakeman is right about the music industry. I loved to go to the record shop, browser vinyl, smelling the covers, watching the covers, listening at the counter, reading the lyrics, talking to the shop owner, friends or brothers who cake apong or just another customer who you didn't know, but said "try this or that record".
It was a real treat, something you looked forward to. Now everything, including movies and series, are one or two clicks away. Just like anything, there is overkill, music isn't special anymore, films and series same thing.
Now you can have earphones in all day, but when I was young we had to wait to get home from school to listen music, we were over saturated.
Brian May sung Too much love will kill you, well too much of music will kill your appetite for it also. I like the silence, so enjoy the moment more when I turn on the music. But now there background noise everywhere.
