The country on this list that surprised me was Azerbaijan, as they are a predominantly Muslim country and I never heard of them being particularly atheistic. Two countries that I’m surprised were not on the list were Netherlands and New Zealand.
633
Wouldn’t El Paso be the most Mexican city, if 560,000 of 680,000 people there have Mexican heritage? That is over 80%.
575
Well done video. Makes me feel sorry for the decent people who have to live in places like these.
217
The city on this list that surprised me was Anchorage. The city has a very high crime rate,, and it is the cloudiest and coldest US city with 250K or more people.
103
@scottsimon1 - And Azerbaijan has not been part of the Soviet Union for the past 30 years. Anyway, and in spite of Briggs’ video, I don’t believe that 65% of Azeris are atheist, as 97% of them are Muslim, mainly Shias. My educated guess is that two thirds of Azeris regard religion as of only slight to moderate importance but they are still Muslims and therefore believe in Allah/God.

It makes sense for Oil City to be in Pennsylvania. The first oil well in the US was in Titusville, only a few miles from there.

The top two cities on my dream list are Seattle and San Diego. They seem like polar opposites, but I like Seattle’s scenery and San Diego’s climate.
72
Another factor in the number of homeless in the two cities no doubt is the costs of housing. Portland, OR averaged $539K. Milwaukee, WI averages $196K. A huge difference.
71
I am surprised that Seattle wasn’t on this list. (Maybe they were 11th.)
65
Nebraska’s new official state motto: “It’s boring, but it’s cheap!”
65
I half expected Briggs to say that when the California bear population declined, the state became unbearable. 😁
59
Your arrow landed on Massachusetts when you called “New York”. 😆
42
Glad to see that Hartford got a reprieve. 😂 Buffalo, Rochester, and Syracuse are well known for their winters but the snowiest of them is usually Syracuse.
40
I think Oklahoma is a major omission from this list!
35
I said it before but I’ll say it again, If and when I decide to move, my politics are part of my package. If you don’t like it, kiss my ass!
34
Amarillo’s new city motto: “A Great Place to Pee!”
33
Yucatán is pronounced as \YOU-ka-tan\.
33
And you are welcome to stay away!
25
So, what are the ten states that actually want newcomers?
23
@itsnathanhere2578 - My “failed politics” just won the 2020 Presidential election. I’m so glad that liberals are different than conservatives. You never hear those living in blue states saying “you can move here but keep your politics away.” Because it is a stupid thing to say! Most people are not changing their political affiliation just because they changed their address.
22
I try to pronounce it as \new-fund-LAND\, stressing the final syllable.
21
12:35 - Canada has more people than the NYC and LA metro areas, although California has more people than Canada at about 39 million. The most populous metro area in the world is Tokyo with about 37 million.
21
6:51 (Augusta, Montana): “Known as the last original cow town in the West”... Not Vacaville, California? 😏

Great list, Briggs. The biggest surprise on this was Michigan, but it really is a beautiful state that deserves to be here. Two other states that should have been mentioned are Washington and New York. In my opinion, the #1 state should have been Alaska, by far. The only reason Alaska had fewer votes than California is because AK had fewer visitors, but both of them are awesome states.
18
@DerFleisch - And he’s entitled to do that as it’s his video, but using raw numbers is misleading, in my opinion.
18
I visited LA a couple of times about 20 years ago. Wouldn’t care to live in LA, but it’s a great place to explore. I guess the worst time to visit would be summer due to wildfires. The best time might be midwinter when it’s still going to be in the 60’s on most days. 🙂
17
I’ve had Hawaiian pizza. Pineapple is one of my favorite pizza toppings, although I can also order pizza with just cheese and pepperoni. If you don’t like pineapple on pizza, that’s fine. More for me! 😊
16
“The devil’s lettuce?” I’ve never heard that term before, but I presume it’s a euphemism for marijuana. I know: Briggs doesn’t want to be demonetized. But how about calling a spade a spade? YouTube just seems to be beyond ridiculous sometimes.
15
Good video. I would have thought of Boston as being another possibility although it would be more expensive than other cities on this list. If I relocated, I could see myself moving to most of the places listed here, particularly Columbus or Madison.
15
I am also an atheist. I am willing to respect other’s beliefs if they do likewise, but too often they do not. 😕
14
Some great choices here. Will there be a Part 2?
14
You prefer Sasquatches instead?
13
I am not sure that someone making $200,000 a year living in New York City or San Francisco would be considered “rich”.
13
I think Bostonians are fine with people who (1) don’t like the Yankees and (2) don’t drive in their already congested city.
13
When I saw the title of this video, I was thinking Cleveland and also Dayton, but neither city is among the 50 largest cities. I can’t really argue with any of the places on this video, although I’m a little surprised at Phoenix and Las Vegas, and would have thought Philadelphia and Milwaukee.
12
I have never been to Yuma, but it’s a city with over 90,000 people. The average high temperature in July is 107°F with the temperature once hitting 124°F. Those are one or two degrees higher than Phoenix. (Neither place is for me.)
12
Because Florida has lots of people moving there from other states.
12
I think San Jose should be on this list.
12
As for #17, I don’t think the first letter of Humble is pronounced. I’ve never been there, but have heard the pronunciation.
11
This New Englander often does that, too.
11
Briggs, I enjoyed your video. However, I understand that Hamtramck, Michigan is the only Muslim-majority city in the US, and would hence be the city with the highest percentage of Muslims. Drew Binsky had a very good video about Hamtramck.
11
Having to root for the Flyers.
11
I predict that the state with the lowest percentage of residents born in that state will be Nevada. Others on this list will be CA, AZ, ID, AK, CO and TX. Maybe FL, WA, and OR.
11
One European country I’d love to visit is Norway. It looks like a beautiful place where I can enjoy the midnight sun. Other countries (not on this video) that I’d check out are Sweden, Finland, Czechia, Croatia, and a few others.
11
My two favorites on this list are Seattle and San Diego. I’ve never been to San Francisco, but it sounds like it would be my third favorite if I had. The city I have visited by far the most often is New York; I live about 100 miles from there. I love visiting NYC but would not want to live there. One city that is also “a nice place to visit, but…” is Las Vegas. Definitely not a summer destination though.
10
I have never heard of “The Deep North” before; I have heard MN, ND, SD, and WI referred to as the “Upper Midwest”. Of these states, I’d like to see Minnesota. Another good video.
10
Wimp. 😎
10
I’m really curious which states finished 16th and 17th. 😁
10
Or Toronto.
9
I suspect the true ending to the story is that after Briggs sped away, the three kids looked at each other, laughed, and walked in the opposite direction back home. 😆
