Looking forward to the 10 best states for retirement. I suspect a lot of Midwestern states on that list, along with Florida.
9
Itz_Ranger - in 1953, a tornado hit Worcester that killed 94 people. The Bay State is not Tornado Alley, but tornadoes do occur. As for Dunkin Donuts, I agree that DD is alright. There just seem to be too many of them around here.
9
Briggs’ next video : “10 Reasons why Everybody is moving to Atlanta!” 😁
8
My two favorite parts of the country back-to-back. 🙂 Too bad no places west of the Cascades were mentioned, although I guess it’s more pricey there.
8
I think your comments about Glastonbury, CT are on the money. I don’t think their weather is that bad, but I’m from the area. And it’s a little expensive, but towns in Fairfield County (in SW Connecticut) are much pricier.
8
Philadelphia has about 1.5 million people. So 200 homicides in that city is only about 13.3 per 100,000, which is not high enough to make Briggs’ list.. (Remember, Washington DC had a homicide rate of 22.8 and they were only 10th.) I am more surprised that Camden, NJ did not make the list!
8
And Drew Binsky has been to all of them!
8
Germany, Switzerland, Luxembourg is my guess of three rich countries. EDIT: In terms of per capita, they probably still are in the top 10. But Switzerland and Luxembourg are small countries so they did not make this list.

I visited a Russian Orthodox church in Sitka when I vacationed in Alaska; probably the only time I ever visited a church as a tourist. It was interesting, but I was not allowed to take pictures. Given Alaska’s history, it makes sense they would have a high Orthodox population.
8
@jules4626 - Understood, even though it wasn’t my point. Briggs mentioned the climate differences in his video and I don’t think I need to expand on that. It’s hard not to be homeless if you can’t afford the price of housing.
8
Move into one of the sinkholes; you should have enough room there.
8
My choices would be cost of living, followed by crime, and followed by jobs, as I am near retirement. I would also assess the climate, which I’d rank on a par with crime.
7
9:45 - Are humans making the global warming/climate change situation worse? Yes, they are, and it’s not even debatable.
7
@SirManfly - New York and New Jersey each had three mentions (NJ really had four, including Camden which he wasn’t going to really list…. 🤪) Actually I think New York is a pretty nice state overall although the City is too intense for my tastes.
7
This may be the first video Briggs has done on Colorado that didn’t mention Blucifer. 😆
7
If, 40 years ago, you had asked me which states had the most and least expensive utility costs, respectively, I would have said Connecticut and Washington. Some things never change.
7
Big changes ahead. Looking forward to the next five years. I think a partnership, either with a family member or another YouTuber, seems the most reasonable. The partner would make videos in WA2B infrequently at first and then more often as you approach retirement. After you retire, your partner would own the channel although I think you might still create an occasional video. 🙂 That is my two cents anyway.

Chuck Wagon (a.k.a. M RC) - Among cities with at least 250,000 people, Anchorage is the coldest US city. The average temperature over the entire year in Anchorage is 37°F, and no other large city averages under 40°F. Among US cities with less than 250,000 people, I would say that Fairbanks is the coldest. (And I would be wrong.)
7
Of the states on this list, I am most intrigued by MN, WI, IA, and NE. I used to live in OH (suburbs of Dayton), and while I sometimes miss it there, I would look at the Columbus area if I moved back there. NH and VA are great places, but pricey. I like MI except for Detroit and Flint. Best Presidents from before I was born: FDR and “Ike”.
7
9:51 - 17 murders in 2022 after 40 in 2021 is not a 50.57% decrease for Wilmington, DE. It is a 57.5% decrease. This video is interesting, but I think the sample sizes are all too small for these percentages to be statistically significant. This list should be restricted to cities of over 500,000 in my opinion.
7
China has 1.3 billion people. Africa has about 700 million, and about half of them are Christian, give or take. Spain and her neighbors have maybe 100 million people. So these missionaries were correct. Go figure.
7
I’m sure that the more religious a place is, the more violent it is. Consider that the state with the highest murder rate is Louisiana and the state with the lowest murder rate is New Hampshire.
7
Nor should it be.
7
Isn’t Florida pretty much screwed anyways?
6
Ecuador might be alright. They have the US Dollar as their currency, it’s inexpensive, and Spanish is relatively easy to learn. My biggest reservation is that the nicer climates are at an altitude of over 8,000 feet and I’m not sure how easily I could adjust to that.
6
SA is in Connecticut? I always learn new stuff from your videos! 😂
6
That video would be too long.
6
Puebla is east of Mexico City. (Okay, it’s also slightly south, but much more east. I made a similar comment about Rochester and Buffalo.)
6
This is a great video! The top five countries I would consider relocating to that are not on your list are Norway, Finland, Ireland, Australia, and Chile. From your list, I would choose either Uruguay, Portugal, Sweden, or New Zealand.
6
I figured my state (Connecticut) would be about 10th safest (or #42 on this list), but it was actually #48. (You wouldn’t know it from watching the local news.) For the most part, the states were about where I expected them to be.
6
0:30 - you said you would be looking at places under 50,000 in population. Later, you brought up Flint, which has about 80,000.
6
Seattle is one of my favorite cities, due to its scenery and its mild climate. But the high cost of living in Seattle will likely keep me from moving there.
6
So where did Arkansas rate in terms of opportunity? Just curious. 😎
6
@kitsuneneko2567 - Some of the strongest tornadoes ever recorded have hit Moore and El Reno in the past few decades.
6
Ten least sunniest cities. I suspect #1 on that list would be Anchorage.
6
I would like to see the “ten countries people don’t regret moving to”, but I suspect some of those will be the same as the countries on this list. I will guess that Canada, Japan, France, and maybe the US will be on that one too.
6
Connecticut is one of the safer states as far as crime goes; it is usually one of the 10 safest states. It’s cold, but not the coldest by a long shot; there are probably 15 colder states than Connecticut. It may be a little boring, but in a non pandemic year, New York and Boston are close. My only complaint is the cost of living and the taxes. Where would I move to were I to leave Connecticut? I’m working on that list, but I doubt it would have ten states in it.
6
Alaska was a U.S. territory in 1867. Anchorage was settled in 1914. The first census since then was 1920.
6
Because lots of people are neither liberal nor conservative.
6
Or don’t have kids. Eight billion people on this planet is enough!
6
@BeastModeFitness11 - I support women having the right to manage their own body as they see fit. And until guys get to carry a fetus inside them - for nine months! - they should mind their goddam business.
6
And hundreds of thousands moved to California. (A lot of them from New York.)
6
Portland may have its problems, but I think it’s a great place. I’ve only been there once but I’d go back. Thank you for the video, Briggs. 🙂
6
One of the safest countries (in terms of lack of crime) would be Japan.
6
Mali does not have 1.2 million square miles. The largest country in Africa is Algeria with about 900,000 square miles. Mali has 1.2 million square kilometers or 480,000 square miles. Burkina Faso has 20 million residents, not 20,000.
6
@wewenang5167 - But so was Armenia, and for that matter, Romania. They were listed in Briggs’ video yesterday on the 10 most religious/least atheistic counties. He should have listed 25, and I think Poland would have been listed too. All are former communist countries.
5
Dayton was on his last list from a few days ago.
5
Ohio is definitely the state I both love and hate. But I can see myself moving back there, (and also cursing the state within six months. 😂) But the weather is usually okay, it’s inexpensive, and you’re a day’s drive from almost half of the country.
5
I have heard of all of these except the place on Easter Island. Places you could have added include Edinburgh of the Seven Seas on Tristan da Cunha; Stanley on the Falkland Islands; Puerto Williams, Chile; and Iquitos, Peru. (Also, probably any Greenlandic community that is not named Nuuk.)
