  24. My great grandfather fought in World War One. His name was Robert Hill. He was attached to a Highlander Regiment so he was Scottish. He survived the war of course but he never told anyone what he experienced at the front. My family will never knew what happened to him in the war. But whatever it was it was definitely unpleasant.

This explains clearly of how the war started and how all these different countries became involved -- a chain of events: the Serbian assassin of the Black Hand shot Frans Ferdinand, the Archduke of Austro-Hungary, in Sarajevo who was the heir to the Austrian throne so then Austro-Hungary declared war on Serbia, but then Russia declared war on Austro-Hungary because Serbia was it's ally. Germany backed Austro-Hungary because they were it's ally. Fearing an attack from France because they were the other sides ally, they decided to invade it via Belgium because it was a back door into it so Great Britain declared war on Germany because France and Belgium was it's ally and so the war started... A domino theory started the war, a chain of events...
