  1. Everywhere is different but yes, I agree with you and also agree that people gloss over this aspect of immigration. The I hate America types often use it to say that "everything was free and better" in some other place on Earth. I have never been asked for my insurance card more than in Uruguay (often featured in Travel and Leisure as the most perfect place ever of any time for expats). I joined a gym and they demanded my insurance card. The last time I entered the country they asked me (for covid testing purposes) to show them an insurance card. I have private American insurance that works overseas so it was fine, but if you do not it can be an issue.

I don't see the passport application getting lost until you provide a large tip for it to be found and processed, Chileans just aren't like that. Argentina is a different story, they are gonna start robbing you the minute you land there, but both have great "off season" skiing for people from the Northern Hemisphere. Cheers

  6.  harvey swinestein  I hear ya, I currently live in the US (and do not seem to hate it as much as most people here). The US would be better if it were still functioning as a constitutional republic with some sort of limits on the central government power, out of control agencies, and their bought and paid for corporate shills. The thing is, I have lived all over the place, there are awful people everywhere and nowhere is perfect. I guess you just have to keep moving around - until some new pandemic or green initiative makes travel impossible. The lockdowns and health uber alles initiatives are my current biggest threat to "being treated best" - this channel does not really talk about them at all. The US is actually pretty good for freedom to walk around without a dirty rag over your face, or the requirement to share personal medical data with every waiter and hotel concierge.

  7. Do you rent or live with family? I'm from Mendoza, you could squeak by in Mendoza if you didn't have to add rent, never ate out, and didn't ever buy any luxury good, but it would be a bit grim. I honestly didn't know Cordoba was that inexpensive.

Change money with people (shopkeepers, locals you trust) and keep the money with you or somewhere safe (or in a foreign bank in a country that does not constantly rob the banks). Do not use a bank in Argentina! The average street money changer is much more honest and has better rates.

  9. Before you call anyone have your assistant pull your criminal background check, your vaccination records (especially measles), and your guaranteed income statements. Then get all of these apostilled. Unless you are doing citizenship by descent these are probably the first things Andrew will ask you for, and the apostille process takes a while these days.

  10. I know it is not allowed on this channel but although the US has issues, I like that the people are feisty and tired of the virus nonsense. I enjoy not wearing masks and not being required to boost every other day. At some point we may leave (we both have 2 passports), but not today. 'Virus response" freedom is important for us given what we have seen over the past 2 years almost everywhere else.

  13. It depends on your priorities when you say loss of freedoms. I travel a lot and have family in several places in Europe and South America. Of these places the US actually has some of the least annoying pandemic response rules once you are inside the country. Censorship in the media as well, I always shake my head when Americans say this, they have no idea. The US is full of alternative media outlets and talk radio, etc. Things that are not legal or present in much of the rest of the world. Divides in society? Yes, the political class in the US foments race and class unrest to stay in power. Its new and ugly in the US to the degree that I see it, and I actively dislike it. But its just normal political rhetoric in Argentina where I am from. I would at least say go take a year's vacation in several cheap places that you might want to retire. Try before you buy because it is not all as advertised online.

  14. Its not that the people in other countries don't support a wealth tax, its that their governments aren't in a position to implement one, yet. Prosperity breeds an entitlement atmosphere in the average person. These taxes and rules will happen anywhere once the conditions have been met. People are people everywhere, envy is in everyone. Watch Singapore, its ahead of the curve in Asia.

  15.  @baronsilverbaron757  Do you live with another native English speaker and speak English all the time at home? This can make it more difficult. My English was good but I always had to think when speaking it, and many accents were simply incomprehensible to me. Back then speaking English made me tired - it was a lot of work for my brain, even if I sounded OK. Eventually I moved to the US and married an American. At that point my life became 100% English, all day every day. We refused to devolve into yet another Spanglish household. I would say that within 3-4 months or so I was able to speak and understand almost all English without excessively thinking and working at it. OK, my English is not perfect but I can communicate without stress and without becoming exhausted by the language. I can crack jokes and make meaningless small talk. I can listen to snippets of conversation in crowds and understand them. Mastering a foreign language can be done, at any age, but it's really hard. Kudos to anyone who tries.

  22.  @GGWP-nx3kn  Its not all women, that's why our government has to work so hard to keep glorifying single mothers and eroding the institution of marriage. Married women over 30 have been a pretty reliable and sensible group and generally do not vote for more government power (or leftist-collectivist lifestyle, or whatever you want to call it).

  23. My husband left the room when you said Spanish is easy to learn haha. I think basic get around town Spanish is pretty easy and most Americans under 50 have studied a bit of it. But to fully master it can be very difficult, in fact it might be a language that becomes more difficult to learn as you learn it. We have US/Argentina now by default, but I would change that for Canada/Uruguay/Singapore. My tax haven would probably need a tax haven, but I like clean places for living. Malaysia looks good in your pics, and we have good friends from Serbia (who hate the place) so we might look there.

  25. One advantage for women in many parts of the Middle East is that if they marry a citizen of that place they get residency quickly. This does not work in the reverse - women cannot grant residency/citizenship/work permit status to their husbands in Arab countries. This includes the UAE. And remember, the men can marry several women so read between the lines on how difficult it may be to find someone willing to enter into that state. Just be sure to keep your other passports in good order, hopefully at least one in a place where women are fully considered citizens.

  26. We checked out Ecuador (me and my gringo husband who hates Spanish). Its OK, uses the dollar and English works in many places. It is FULL of Americans (and Canadians too but mostly Americans) who sit around complaining about the USA LOL. I feel them, I complain about Argentina but not to strangers on the beach! Just to you chumps on the internet! Everyone I know loves Colombian ladies (and the country as well), but it can be rough in some areas. If you like the North American lifestyle as far as security and hygiene (and really, who doesn't?) it can be a bit, I don't know, dirty? Sorry Colombians, feel free to fact check that or find a better word but he honest haha. Chile is closest to American levels of hygiene and order right now, but start reading the local papers, there are government problems there (such as writing a new constitution). Ecuador was the least expensive most dollar and American friendly of the three to me. The expat complainers selling BLM nonsense to my husband makes it a no go for us. He's American, pretty conservative and black, he just does not want to hear woke white people telling him how to think, and they certainly were. Maybe if you don't mind this Ecuador would be fine, it has a lot to recommend it. Sorry for the long answer but were in the same process of investigating other options.

  29.  @Andreas4696  In Argentina we do grilling better than most other places, and make some really nice wines. Personally I love my Malbecs. Other than that its a country that treats its citizens like crap and robs tourists blind - a violation of the "go where they treat you best" thing. Cheers

  31.  @amcmillion3  I'm still waiting for it to end. Places that have instituted extreme health theater once are more likely to do it again whenever they like. The ease with which I can be locked into my house, annoyed and sprayed and whatnot when permitted outside is a factor in being treated best. Governments rarely voluntarily surrender new superpowers. But I get it, its not a Nomad Capitalist concern. Not my channel, not my call.

  34. My brother was born in Beirut, Lebanon. Its on his passport for life which always gives me a laugh. To be fair it has never been a problem, just an occasional topic of conversation with customs people bringing their A game, actually reading the whole document. The dumbest passport for immigrants is Uruguayan - your nationality in the passport is your original nationality (legal citizenship conveys only citizenship, not nationality). Its retarded and causes huge problems even just going to Brazil or Argentina.

  37.  @musiciansonships3898  Yeah, me too I was on business in Istanbul. It was OK if I was with other people, even other women. Going out on my own (as in walking from A to B, not partying at 2AM) was a disaster of intrusive, unwanted attention of all varieties at all times of the day. We did go to some coastal beach towns as well, they were completely full of tourists, many Germans. The environment there was more generic cheap- European tourist rip off. I was with a group so I don't particularly remember being harassed, but I do remember naked fat Germans on the beach. I'll probably remember that forever.

  40. I worked for a US company, they offered me a transfer which made it easy for me. Probably a paperwork nightmare for them. In spite of what people say, I have found the US welcoming and accepting of legal immigrants, and pretty permissive of people who overstay visas. I am college educated, work in tech and finance and was single when I arrived in the US. Good luck!

  43. I see stagflation and loss of reserve currency status over time, I cannot see how we will achieve sufficient growth under a Biden/Harris administration to outgrow our debt bomb. This would seem to be a global issue, but for those of us stuck with dollars only it could be a problem, especially for anyone over 50 or so, because you will be dead before it corrects itself. Biden/Harris could last 16 years if they let old Joe live that long. So as much as getting out of America seems nice, the dollar needs a look too. My wife is from Argentina, we won't be moving there, that country is the definition of hot mess, with a side of Malbec to lure people in.

Come over for a beer, I can tell you tons of stories about the place, my family runs a vineyard. Dealing with the government is like dealing with the mafia, only its more powerful. The expat experience in Argentina is fine, great even. Become a citizen and get substantial assets there? Not unless you are an idiot.
