John Doe If you’re referring to supporting terminations of pregnancy then that’s literally something (along with widely available sexual education, widely available contraception, and not shaming women for having children out of wedlock) that would have prevented the baby farming industry in the first place.

Do you say ‘Hey, I’m making a video on <subject>’ and the first offer you take, or do you choose one as relevant to the video as possible, or is it just a matter of you get generic sponsorship offers in your e-mail and stick them on whatever video you want? Sorry, I just find it interesting.

  25. That’s no longer incorrect usage. Historically speaking, yes, it meant to reduce by one tenth (e.g. cut off the head of every tenth man), however that is no longer the case. Now it means ‘kill, destroy, or remove a large proportion of’ E.g.- the local population was decimated by disease and famine Like everything, language moves on.

  28. I have two more ‘disease’ suggestions. The Encephalitis lethargica ‘sleeping sickness’ that caused a mystery epidemic between 1915 and 1926, or the ‘sweating sickness’ mentioned in many early modern texts that we’re still not exactly sure what caused it.

  46. That Annoying Aussie Ginger! As another Australian I’d find that interesting as well. They’re probably not that well known outside of the Pacific former colonies. Like Washington and slavery obviously colonisation and taking land from indigenous peoples is deeply troubling. But the discussion would be interesting.
