That big rascal at 1:22 trying to look like he was going off his merry little way then coming up from out of nowhere just blaaaaaaaaaaaaaaasting that has me in stitches. I have always had a lot of respect for buffaloes. Other prey animals in the animal kingdom, like zebra and wildebeest, are so stupid and don't bother to defend themselves or members of their same group. But buffaloes do not hesitate to throw down on their predators and defend each other. They have to be the most respectable, smartest and most defensive prey animals in Africa.

  7. Actually the joke is on all the others larger adult buffalo that got away and not to mention the lions. Calf got lucky and didn't have to spend very long a life damned to being a prey animal in Africa let alone in Africa. Hey look, if it means a few second of pain, I'm with the calf and alerting the predators so I don't have to spend very long as animal in that insane asylum that is the African Savannah and game reserve parks where prey are always forced to be on edge looking out for some animal ready to take their lives. Why not end the torture as fast as possible.

  11. Wow! Epic footage, Krugar Sightings. I always like to see what happens when predators go one on one again each other. And this was a pretty even given the setting. The croc had the edge of being in water, but it was shallow waters enough for the lions to be on land. And we got to see lions hunting in their typical way versus crocodile. Now albeit the lions were technically double teaming, this is what they always do so you could consider it a pretty even match at least by lion fighting rules go. lol! Still and all, it looks like the lions were unable to completely kill the croc 3 to 1 so perhaps they didn't win.

  12. Agreed with bafana! Leopard claws changed their minds. While lions and hyenas might be bigger, leopards have brains and know how to fight. Rolling over on its back so that if it attacked, the assailant is met with nothing but claws coming from four angles and teeth was brilliant. Way better than a lowly hyena who would just try to bail from the pride and end up killed by the male lion because all that is exposed is the back

  13.  @andrewhezekiahdaniel  True but this is a different case scenario. Those safari vehicles are right near her brand newborns so the mother is on edge and watchful for that reason. Animals get very overprotective even towards things they would ordinarily not see as a threat when they have newborns. For example, birds in trees don't typically feel threatened by a human passing by down below, but when they have baby birds in their nest, many species of birds will swoop down and dive bomb humans!

  14. I'm not at all accepting your argument that the lioness's withdrawing was due to a lack of motivation. If a lack of motivation then why did she get up and approach it to the point of being mere inches away before retreating. She very clearly took interest and if that were a baby animal of any sort she would have happily killed it. You are very stuck on your minority opinion but just take this for what it is, the leopard would have caused great injury to the lions or at least the lions felt it so so it wasn't worth it. By the way, I have seen plenty of male lion with draw from other male lions in order to avoid risking injury.

H M I can respect your stance but disagree with it just because i have seen four lionesses actively trying to kill an adult male leopard and it had all four lionesses at bay afraid to attack and the lionesses caught some harsh swings. Same case scenario here where she looked interested in attacking the leopard but changed its mind because it was willing to fight. They will try to attack hyenas but a ferocious leopard who is willing to fight and they back down

  18. Well yes, that is if a wild dog were defenseless or freely allowed it to happen lol the hyena could break through its neck easily. But then again of a bull elephant were defenseless or freely allowed it, a hyena could break through its skin easily. But hyenas are cowardly and tend to flee from other animals in order to avoid injury. Only reason this mother stuck around instead of following her natural instincts was due to the babies.

  21.  @bobblegang14  Technically speaking, if the wild dogs really wanted to, they could have probably killed the mother hyena. Any time you get a situation where you have 5 wild dogs vs one hyena, the wild dogs will win if it comes to blows. These wild dogs just didn't want to risk injury in taking out the mother but they most assuredly could have despite strong jaw.

The leopard is the most strategic animal in Africa as seen in how it's able to hold onto its prey better than the rest of the animal kingdom by climbing it into a tree. I have seen 4 lionesses back off of a leopard because of their strategy and ferocity when it comes to battle

Hazaqi Nami My guess is given the croc has the strongest jaws in all of the animal kingdom, the lioness would suffer serious life threatening injuries but the crocodile would have to get an effective bite and proper bite which is next to impossible while trying to bob and weave with an entire pride surrounded around it. So if the water weren’t nearby and this was a fight to the death, it be long and gory but I think given they are on land the crocodile would eventually come up short after probably hours of battle and repeated standoffs. This is why predators of this magnitude probably don’t like messing with one another and rather mess with prey animals.

  32. Daddy I think a male lion if it is nervy enough would approach a human to kill it out of nowhere. I think a lioness is less likely. But yes, I agree with you they are definitely more likely to do that then wild dogs because they have more power and might. If wild dogs were that strong, I’m sure they would try it with us more often too

  34. Michael Logan Err... ahh... uhhh ... ehhh.. ohhhh yes lions do scare hyenas. There’s countless videos of single adult male lions scaring off packs of like 40 hyenas. Hyenas will battle lionesses if and only if they outnumber them significantly otherwise they run from them too.

Ruthless essentially means cruel. When I see hyenas doing ruthless stuff like eating their own cubs and beginning to eat an animal alive that’s giving birth, I just say hyenas are disturbing more than smart. But to each his own. I define smart as what the leopard does when it takes kills up into a tree this no other animals get any dibs on it.

  37. “Durability” is creatively worded by you. My friend, it’s called a slow, painful death. Hyenas might have that strong ole jaw, but nothing you can do about it once using that strong old jaw on one dog, four others are busy biting and mauling you a new asshole. I saw that same video where the dogs outnumber assault the hyena. You didn’t see the hyena survive, you saw something worse than an immediate death, a slow painful one. How many hyenas with mauled ears and body parts do you see hanging around the wild, very few because they don’t end up surviving past a day or two. That’s same case scenarios with most big cats once they suffer a serious mauling or injury. They don’t die right away. They become the weak crippled days numbered animal and had these wild dogs really wanted to, they could have made that become of this hyena.

  39. Raynel Isaac You couldn’t be more correct on that point. Jit Su is wrong that hyenas have the strongest bite pressure in all the land. That title is held by crocodiles. There are actually several animals ahead of the hyena, like the Jaguar. Of the predators the hyenas deal with mainly out in Africa (lions, cheetahs, leopards), yes it ranks above them by far and away in bite pressure.

  40.  @GLitiatc0  I disagree that they are concerned about scavengers. Wild dogs don’t deal with a lot of scavengers because although very small, their packs are so big. Lions don’t seem to hate them the same way they hate hyenas so they don’t bother with them as much. Hyenas occasionally bother with them and end up getting a butt whipping because wild dogs tend to outnumber hyenas. The reason they eat them alive is sheer hunger and that they don’t want members of their own pack to get first dibbs. Because packs are so big, there is risks of starvation for that reason alone

  41. You know, I now am wondering who would win as between a leopard and a jaguar. I used to always conclude it be the jaguar because of its bulkier build and how they always show jaguars killing big pythons and alligators in South America. But having now seen a leopard defeat a porcupine in a knockdown dirty fight to the finish in another YouTube, a leopard taking on three lionesses and able to bring things to stalemate between them, a leopard scaring off a large swarm of chimps, leopards having no problem taking on lone hyenas, and now this video, I am convinced that the leopard might just be the strongest of the big cats in Africa. I always discount the lions and hyenas because they always get the leopard running in big packs so that don't count. With that in mind, I now I hope someone can get a video of a leopard crossing paths with the jaguar. Now that be a showdown for the books.

  45. I think it really all comes down to the fighting style. A male will literally charge the whole pack out of nowhere causing them to all scatter and with intent on killing at least one. Females don't have the balls to charge a hyena. If one of the females simply charged one of them, they'd all go scattering away. Females typically allow hyenas to get relatively close without making any charge. They just do a lot of timid roaring right up until the hyena come up on them and starts taking vicious bites on them. Now a male, on the other hand, would have charged that pack long before the hyena came up that close. As soon as he heard those things, the male would burst out like a bat out of hell.

  49. I agree with Josue4glx. It's nothing to do with rather the animal is wild or domesticated. Africa is hotter than hades so these animals are forced to drink one way or another. Even zebra and antelope get caught just as bad as that baby cow.

Your logic would thereby suggests that animal observers in safari vehicles would often see leopards hanging around their vehicles, but leopards very rarely hang around safari vehicles. Rather, they try to escape their notice. Leopards are extremely secretive and clandestine. Animal observers in safari vehicle often cite to leopards being extremely difficult to find, that they are Africa’s hardest to find big cats. The leopards aim is to avoid notice, not to go near a big roaring engine safari vehicle because it thinks it can one up the other predators. I’m 33 and have been studying big cat wildlife since I was a child, trust me on this one!
