Reason I know is because friends of mine have a relative in the Russian foreign ministry who was running his mouth about Putin's new Russia taking back all the former Czarist and Soviet era territories. Ukraine is a critical region for Russian naval forces, oil pipelines, heavy industry, and also has vast oil fields that could threaten Russian hegemony on supplying Europe with oil/NG. 79% of Ukraine wanted to trade with the EU and get Euros for their goods and services, and move away from the worthless ruble.

Official investigations were not allowed into the bombings, and they were blamed on the Chechens, allowing Deputy Prime Minister Vladimir Putin to launch the 2nd Chechen War with aerial bombings of Grozny to make himself look like Russia’s new strong man.

  5. Ukraine isn't very cold since it's on the Black Sea. Russia is freaking cold. Soldiers out in their exposed positions will feel cold, but it's easier to warm up at night if you have a fart sack. Fresh supplies of new socks and cold weather gear make a difference in extended winter campaigns. Russia sucks at resupply and initial issue of gear to troops, so it's going to continue to suck for them.

It places strategic posturing of forces in Greenland solely in US control, to deny Russian and Chinese efforts to lay claims in the Arctic. No need to have Danish parliamentarians and leaders involved in the process. This is pretty simple folks. Had this been any other President, Zeihan would be singing their praises louder than anyone.

  12.  @PaulLefebvre  He’s pretty tame behind closed doors, very personable, seems like a normal guy. They public image is a creation, same as any other public leader. George W. Bush really dumbed down his personality as well. Clinton can be both very subdued and animated, especially if young ladies are in-sight. One of the main lessons successful leaders (who are required to speak often in public) learn is to dumb down their speech and mannerisms.

  13.  @PaulLefebvre  Trump is more of a street-level guy who likes to mingle with the workers on projects vs listening to academics running their mouths. You ask people who have been on major construction projects and they talk about him getting down in the trenches with them and checking on things, how it’s going, are they doing their best job, things like that. On other projects, they might not even know who the developer is and certainly never would even see C suite people.

He has successfully managed a growing real estate and construction empire over the course of his life. The numbers for all of that predate the Apprentice. He knew how to brand himself better than most business people, and how to manage his public image in a way that common people can identify with. Go watch all the pre-2015 publicity of Trump with Oprah, The View (they welcomed him like a hero and hugged him like family), or his sit-down interviews with Diane Sawyer and other prominent corporate press.

Looking at global temps over the last 140 years, some of the drops in temperature corresponded after the largest bursts of human industrial output. When average temps started dropping in the last decade, the verbiage was altered from Global Warming to Climate Change. It's not scientific. They especially are avoiding the discussion about deep sea floor heating.

  25. History doesn't make any sense unless you know geography. There has to be a setting to story. The US school system has failed to teach geography for the past 100 years. Public school in the US really sucks when it comes to teaching history, since hardly any of the teachers know geography. Most college professors don't even know geography. It's almost comical that these academics truly believe they are well-educated.

Bush, for example. Here’s a guy who was one of the most intelligent Presidents in history, who is the only President to have flown supersonic fighters that had a track record for killing their pilots with very high mishap rates (F-102A), who probably has read more books than any other President, but many people think is an idiot because they consumed presstitute brothel disinformation from the main spigots. Our dislike for him is immaterial to these facts, but emotions don’t allow you to see through. Stepping up to geopolitics is too far of a leap for such a mindset.   The best thing you could do it pick 3 political personalities you absolutely hate, and go stud their lives finding 5 positive aspects of them you didn’t know about. Do it dispassionately, and place yourself in their shoes from cradle to present.
