  9. In the UK, before an election, each party has to publish a "manifesto". A publication of all their promises and policies in great detail, so they can be held accountable when they win. It's often a fairly meaty publication, hundreds of pages. Is there no equivalent in the US? Can candidates just say anything they like without accountability?
