Why wasn’t that obvious to you as a child?
3
Did it come from cooperating with the Soviet Union?
3
@tedcrilly46 you can have a fine life as a Muslim in Sweden without knowing any Swedish.
3
Why are so many Americans as confused about “democracy vs republic” as you are? You genuinely think you said something truthful and deep, didn’t you?
3
@kirgan1000 it’s not precise compared to GPS, Galileo, or Beidou.
3
Boomer switched from video editing to audio mixing.
3
I don’t quite agree. All teachers should be openly anti-communist, for example. All those who aren’t should be fired.
3
Sounds like part of her pension should be Irish and part should be English. Why doesn’t that work for her?
3
Er ist schon wieder da!
3
What took you so long? John Oliver is not even funny.
3
So is Lower Saxony.
3
@WJ4321 Should people of the peninsula of Anglia/Angel/Angeln -- which peninsula gave its name to England and the English -- pay reparations to everybody in the UK (and many people in Ireland)?
3
Hey, one of those doctors just went to space! Show some respect for those doctors!
2
The Soviets also kept Bornholm “liberated” for a year after the war.
2
russian beaches modern civilization wasn’t invented by the English alone. Please broaden your horizon a bit...
2
“Wewease Wodewick!”
2
"There's no compulsion in religion"... and the very next verse in the Quran describes how the infidels shall burn forever in hell. No compulsion my ass.
2
@bronsontolliver9027 should criminals have that right? They do, but should they? Not in my opinion.
2
Obviously not. Sinn Fein still exists. The IRA terrorists are released or dead of old age. They still get to pretend they were the good guys.
2
Nope. Please stop lying -- or if you aren't doing this on purpose, please look closer into the issue. (Electricity doesn't have to come from coal, but even if it does, it is cleaner than burning petrol and MUCH cleaner than burning diesel.)
2
No. It was a disaster in 1914 when the UK was in the wrong side and another disaster in the late 30’s when Hitler hadn’t done anything wrong yet (getting the East back from Poland, Anschluss with Austria, and freeing the Sudetenland from Czechoslovakian occupation were good and just things). (I mean nothing in terms of foreign politics, of course.)
2
Jared Taylor is more Japanese than Yousef is Scottish.
2
@jeffreywolfe1122 multilingual empire never had a problem with that in practice.
2
@anneg5720 you probably also understand fractions!
2
Undone.
2
There should be mandatory prison for corruption.
2
@garrywynne1218 an oral test would be completely reasonable, just to see if you could understand their weird/wrong vowels and that you weren’t speaking a dialect that nobody outside the UK — and few inside! — could understand. A native Dane who could only speak one our weirder dialects and not standard Danish should be similarly weeded out here in Denmark. Unfortunately, they aren’t.
2
Was he gay, though, or was he just really into young male actors?
2
One of your best PMs ever. She saved the economy.
2
Of course you can deport them. If they make to much trouble when you try, you can always put them in a (very open) prison in Lapland during the winter. Or maybe rent one in North East Greenland?
2
Posting “rumours” on the internet is also illegal in China.
2
@alanevans3561 unless you lived on the streets of Russia in the 90’s or in a Brazilian favela, then, no, it was not the only way.
2
I changed my name, too. I got rid of the last name I inherited from my mother and kept the one I inherited from my father. In fact, in addition to the one from my father's father, I also got the one from my father's mother. I would not be happy if people used my old name. Luckily, nobody ever did.
2
“Whom”?
2
@tedcrilly46 I’m not from the UK. I’m Danish and can see how much Sweden has destroyed itself.
2
I think it should be mostly peaceful.
2
Ball point pens are more than 100 years old.
2
We can count the votes in Denmark before midnight (usually around 22) even though our polling stations close around 20. I don’t know why they’re so slow in Austria.
2
@Sheikh_spire fourth crusade. Albigensian crusade. Northern crusades.
2
Or maybe they’re just Northern Europeans.
2
@Curmudgeonist Stole them two countries.
2
They can swim, right?
2
@carynewman the Bantus aren’t. Are you Khoi/San? You don’t look like it.
2
Of course. The only real literalists are guys like ISIS and the Taliban. Saudi Arabians are nasty but even they are not true literalists. Everybody else is not anywhere close to being literalists. That doesn’t mean they are good, of course! Even watered down mainstream Islam is incompatible with our values.
2
@Okram.31 and has Ottoman roots!
2
Russia does not to defend itself against NATO. Putin is fully aware that NATO won’t attack. It’s just a story he tells the dumb rubes back home. What he doesn’t want is NATO’s *defense*. He wants to be free to threaten all of his neighbours.
2
@ashlevrier what is childish about it? NATO doesn’t threaten anyone. Russia does. Russia wants the ability to continue that. A NATO expansion prevents that. Putin still had lots of options left, primarily that of not threatening anybody. He doesn’t have to do that, you know.
2
@ashlevrier The US was already fighting an undeclared war against Japan before Pearl Harbour. NATO defending against Russian aggression is not in the same category.
2
@AreEia As a Dane: no, Norway is mostly doing it wrong and so is Denmark. It's just that we are doing it (much) less wrong than Sweden and (West + post-reunification) Germany.
2
It’s the European Court of Human Rights that is (illegally) holding the UK back on that particular issue. Denmark is trying to do the exact same thing and the EU has done nothing to stop us. Rule #1: know who your enemies really are.
