  3.  @thepenguin305  The EU already has nuclear weapons. Us getting more of them doesn’t break the treaty. (Or, that’s what we would argue. Who’s going to stop us?) There’s also article X of the treaty, which we have every reason to invoke.

  4. Actually, a lot of us would welcome the UK back. The UK was very good at saying no to wasting money on Club Med or financing crazy French prestige projects. Denmark, Sweden, Finland, Austria, Slovenia would all love to have an ally again when it comes to budget restraints. Germany? Don't know yet. Their new government might be crazy. France, Italy, Spain, Portugal, and Greece won't be happy about the UK rejoining, though.

  5. If Brexit happens, he loses his (and his party's) EP seat and he (and his party) won't be able to gain any Westminster seats. I don't think MEP pension is the problem, it's the loss of power and the loss of the normal MEP salary.

We still followed all the same change procedures as changes to the actual constitution requires, even though we didn't have to.   18. We could, though. It does not take two generations to build a thousand nuclear tipped missiles and point them at Russia and China. It will likely take ten-fifteen years to integrate our militaries, not because it actually takes that long to do but due to political foot dragging. I expect us to start building EU nukes instead of relying on French nukes and I expect us to begin doing so in about a decade.

In Switzerland, power comes from the cantons, which means that the federal level is very, very thin. It also means there is much, much less wealth redistribution across the country. Imagine how hard it is to buy votes with tax money in such a system. You can do it, but only at the canton level. Imagine the amount of money that could be saved!

  47.  @thepenguin305  which means the EU already has nukes so there’s no proliferation. That’s how we would argue and that’s also the reality: the EU operates more and more as a single, country-like entity than as 27 individual countries (plus quasi members like Norway).

The obvious Realpolitik is that the EU can choose to interpret like I suggest and that we will choose to do that in the future if we have to. I’m also talking about Article X, which is a way out we could use if we had to.
