  1. Obelisks weigh a good deal more than 70 tons and the Romans didn't have much trouble moving them from Egypt to Rome and raising them there. We have records that describe part of the process of moving them. They used two big ships per obelisk. They sailed next to each other and had wooden beams between them. The obelisk would be under water, tied to the wooden beams.
